Excellent staff. Fabulous breakfast. Pub great and food really good.
Rooms need an update felt a bit tired. Bed was too soft and pillows almost flat. We only stayed 2 nights but that was enough.

I cannot say enough great things about the staff at this hotel. I had loads of family coming into town for my wedding weekend, and they were absolutely brilliant throughout the whole process - from rescheduling and shuffling rooms around weeks in advance, to absolutely perfect and accommodating service while we all took over the town of Montacute, to going above and beyond with my grandfather and his wheelchair when he got sick during our stay. Hands down recommend this hotel.
On top of all that, the food at the pub is delicious.

Breakfast and service at breakfast was very good, friendly and helpful waitress
Entrance hall and stairs were dirty and need updating carpet was particularly dirty and smelly, room smelled of old carpet, and needs updating no wardrobe, and was tiny, bed was uncomfortable, bathroom was tiny shower had mildew , and the shower tray filled with water within a minute,so had to switch off water half way through shower to let it drain , no space or shelves to put toiletries etc , wouldn’t have paid more than £40. For this , glad we only booked 1 night , as we would have left early if we had booked more .

Lovely old building full of character, breakfast good and staff super friendly and helpful.
Bathroom a bit of an awkward shape but not the end of the world. quite a lot of noise from other rooms due to the age I guess. very thin pink curtains which let the daylight through at sunrise, as a lite sleeper not ideal😀

Comfortable room, an excellent dinner and a first-rate breakfast.
The room was spotless and the toilet had been cleaned but a used body wash container had been left in the shower.

Room clean and comfortable.
Breakfast excellent
Staff very friendly
Good off street parking
Room One was next to the central heating boiler. It 'hummed' all the time. I could hear it when I was trying to get to sleep.
I woke at 4 and it was OFF, but it came on again when the building was very quiet. Fortunately it went off again after 30 minutes and i was able to get to sleep. It was on again when I woke at 7.30. Sensitive sleepers should be warned about this.
I inquired about dinner and was told the time dinner was being served. I was told I didn't have to book but just turn up.
I did just that at 7.00 pm. Only one other table was occupied. I waited to give my order. Other people then arrived and as they had booked their orders were taken first. I had to wait till the end.
The next morning when I checked out I saw the waitress's order pad on the counter with all the room numbers and against my room the note 'wait till last'. You should make it clear to guests that it would be advisable to book dinner otherwise you might have to wait 20 minutes to be served!

My daughter and I had a fantastic stay at the Inn, our very first experience of staying in a village pub in the UK. Our room and the facilities were very comfortable, spacious and beautifully appointed. Breakfast and dinner were great. Loved the location, the village is just gorgeous and so charming. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

Breakfast was fantastic & Breakfast staff very bright and breezy
Evening meal was good, but the table service was very poor.
4.2
The character and history and the exceedingly friendly and competent staff. The food was also very good.
Breakfast would have been better with fruit and natural yogurt

Everything was fine for my one night stay.
4.2
Situated in a lovey village with just a short walk to Montacute House. General friendliness of the staff, great room and good breakfast. We had room 11 which is a good size, it faces the front and has a fun animal themed decor. Next door to a church, but we did not hear any bells.
There is limited on site parking(only 6 or 7 cars), however we arrived at 4pm on a Sunday just as the lunch guests were leaving, so we were ok. There is some on road parking. Minor point, we had a two night stay and our towels were not changed.

Great location for walking and visiting Montacute House (NT), fantastic food, perfect separate dining room for groups, engaging staff. Excellent value for money.
Minor points but- room illuminated throughout the night by street lighting. It's an old building so sound travels. Limited wine list.
