Exceptional from the minute we arrived - welcomed like we were family & had been staying there for years.

Every thing was excellent. You could not find fault with The Gables. Lou the manager is an absolute wiz - she is what makes properties like this continue to be full all the time. She is worth her weight in gold to The Gables. We will definitely be recommending The Gables to anyone going to The Lakes District.

Lovely house/room, excellent breakfast, friendly and helpful staff

The room looked out onto the main road through Ambleside so was rather noisy during the day. But this inevitable for some of the rooms because of the central location

Convenient, clean and comfortable - very friendly staff too

the convenience - mere steps away from dining, shopping, etc and within walking distance to some really great walks; spacious room - bright, airy, clean and very comfortable mattress - which is a big deal for us =)

Fabulous guest house, great location and lovely staff.

Breakfast and common areas are gorgeous. Staff amazing and kind. Only slight gripe was the room size and amount of plug sockets but there I’m being a bit picky.

The location was excellent, the staff accommodating and helpful.

The price seemed high for the facilities- the room very simple. Unfortunately the breakfast was horrible, no variety, No fresh fruits or vegetables. Only varieties of the traditional English breakfast, and not a very good one at that.

Clean room, and breakfast's lady (I don't know the name but she has purple hair) so, so, so very kind

Advertise claim free parking, but when arrive there was no park for my car, because they have limitated space, so I paid the park car close to place, and after 6 pm, I have to find a free space in the park street, that not was easy, and drive many times around before find a spot. This part was so stressful and waste my time that I could use for visiting the town.

Breakfast was lovely, served with a smile. Room was spotless and a really comfortable bed.

This may just be my impression, we communicated initially over a message and I asked if we could check in early, the owner was fantastic and we gave an estimated arrival time. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we arrived a little over an hour than expected. The gent who answered was a little rude and I felt uncomfortable, I apologised profusely as I hadn’t realised it would be such an issue. Other than that (as I say I may be out of line) the hotel was lovely and the breakfast team and lady host were great, we will likely book again :)

Very clean and comfortable, with a warm welcome from friendly staff.

1hr window (8am-9am) for breakfast very restrictive. Window facing directly onto road without net or frosting meant no privacy unless the blind or curtains were drawn. This meant in the morning it wasn't possible to allow natural light into the room.

I highly recommend a stay here for the cooked breakfast alone. However, it has way more to offer than that including a g

Would definitely book a return stay at The Gables.

Lovely breakfast, varied menu, we had something different every day. Great location with lovely views. Ideally located for getting out and around The Lakes.

Wonderful guesthouse, wonderful restaurants, wonderful scenery, wonderful everything!

Right next to a beautiful church and smart spacious park. Comfortable en-suite bedrooms and a bright spacious dining-room.

Only positive comments- nothing negative to report.

Breakfast was great! The room size was also great, I was in the bigger rooms of the hotel (203 I believe). I didn't expect the TV to have netflix and other apps pre-loaded so that was a nice surprise!

We travelled in a group of 10 people in total, booking 5 rooms of 2. One of the nights we had everyone in one room all together just watching a movie, but a neighbour came in complaining about the noise as their child needed to sleep. It is stated clearly on the site that the hotel is supposed to be fully adults only, so was a bit confused about that.

minor pedantic point: as I had submitted details on booking.com I was unclear why I then needed to duplicate these details in a registration form. based on my experience travel and bookings in past 6 months, this additional “registration” felt inefficient

Exceptional place

Everything was exceptional the room was big spacious and clean and the bed was the comfiest bed I have ever slept on. The owners have done a fantastic job.
