Great option if priorities are location and a solid breakfast.

Great location - walks from the door, or a short drive to some classic peak walks. Superb breakfast - full fry up plus loads of cereal/yoghurt/baked stuff/juices. Very friendly staff.

Stayed in quadruple room. Reserved quite late and paid full whack but still felt the price was quite high, even taking into account cost of alternatives. Dinner in the restaurant was friendly, but a bit slow. Food was fine but again, on the pricey side.

Superb dog friendly pub

We had a lovely stay at the Plough Inn. The room was a generous size, extremely clean and exceeded our expectations. The staff were polite and made us and our dog feel welcome.

Excellent location and helpful, friendly staff.

Very good breakfast with a good choice of dishes. Excellent position for walking the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. Friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed the dinner.

Very mixed - handy location, comfortable Shepherd;s Hut but not what was booked.

Breakfast was the main reason we enjoyed our stay, especially the welcoming breakfast staff.

On arrival, the member of staff gave the impression we were being a nuisance booking in. Despite booking a superior double/twin room, we were allocated a Shepherd's Hut in the grounds. When we said that's not what we booked she casually said over her shoulder as she led us at pace out into the carpark "oh, we probably have a room we can give you". She then vaguely pointed to where the Hut was. On checking online we found that the price was the same as the booked room and as we had never stayed in a SH before we decided to stay as an adventure. Also, that meant we didn't have to meet other staff in case they were as unfriendly as the one who checked us in. We also decided to eat out each night for the same reason. Breakfast staff were lovely however and breakfasts were beautifully cooked. Good range of options.

On the Booking.com website , I read ' Chalet , 331 square Feet ' and thought that sounds good and booked it with no cancellation for the following day .. When I arrived , it was a Shepherds Hut of about 90 sq ft , not what I had been led to believe at all.... Whilst it was comfortable and warm , I dont think Booking .com or the Plough Inn should be selling accomodation using misleading language and grossly exaggerated (wrong) estimates of room size....

Excellent accommodation in the beautiful Peak District

Exceptional breakfast lots of choice. Very friendly welcoming staff.

Our room in the courtyard/garden. We could hear an external noise like a fan most of the night, coming from the main building. This wouldn't stop us booking again.

Staff were friendly

Sewage smell was not pleasant. Cost of taking dogs was excessive therefore not really dog friendly 😞 Food was nice but over priced!! Train was nearby and operated all night!

Perfect esp during traumatic time.

Location superb, exactly what I needed immediately after a sudden unexpected family death. I was in a Shepherd's Hut behind the Inn; wonderfully peaceful. Being a woman on my own didn't feel awkward at all, wonderful meals, dining area etc, staff really looked after us so well at all times

There was a very bright fire alarm light in the living area of the Shepherd's Hut, which flashed constantly, making it very difficult to get back to sleep if I awoke during the night. A curtain along the open edge of the bed would resolve that. Also a small hob for cooking simple meals rather than (or in addition to) the microwave would be good.

Excellent place added on by an excellent staff

This hotel was excellent! It's quite expensive, but I stayed here for a backpacking trip around the peak district. The staff was accommodating to what I was here for, they were very excited for me and took great care of everything. The room is as you would expect, the bed was acceptable, pillows are always questionable in hotels, and the bathroom was excellent. I can't justify fully the cost that it was, but in the area, this was the best option due to the price and the fact that the hiking trail started just in front of the pub. Their food was excellent as well, I had lunch after I finished and the staff was as helpful and even asked me how the hike and camping went. If I have hiking trails in the vicinity again I'd stay here for sure.

The room was a bit basic for the cost, but I think the area is quite expensive in general so maybe that's reasonable. Locking the door required putting considerable force on the door. And my sink in the bathroom didn't seem to have any hot water.

Could be so special but so disappointing.

The location and outdoor spaces.

Stayed in a shepherds hut. The smell of waste every time we flushed the toilet and when other guests flushed there’s 🤢 dirty fridge, floor and worktop. Staff weren’t welcoming. Food expensive for what it was and lack of service received.
