This is the best place that I've stayed at in all of Latin America. Apart from it being very economical, it is perfectly situated only a few meters from the centre on a hill with magnificent views, 360 degrees. I had a really nice room on the 3rd floor with beautiful mountain views and fast, stable WiFi. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, white sheets and plenty of blankets. The kitchen downstairs is massive and is the most equipped I've ever seen. The staff here are so kind and friendly that they go out of their way to help you. It's very peaceful and silent at night. The few dogs around rarely bark, and not for more than a minute or two during the day, so a perfect place to relax or work online.

I do not have the words to express how good my time here was. Not only is the hostel in a beautiful location with many amenities for an affordable price but the family that runs the hostel quickly became a family I could call my own. José, Matilde, Inti, and Joselito are all such kind and personable people - I was here during Inti Raymi and José invited me to join for a ritual bathing ceremony practiced by many of the indigenous people, and explained the significance of it all. Beyond the hospitality, the rooms are incredibly spacious and comfortable and if you want it, single rooms are very affordable. On top of this, Inti offers a taxi service (well known as the ‘Inti Taxi’ haha) and can bring you wherever you need! During one of my days here I took the ‘Inti Taxi’ to El Lechero and the Condor Park and Inti was able to share tons of information about these places. This is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to visit and immerse yourself in the Otavaleño culture. I also learned some Kichwa from the family as well.

The view of the guest is amazing, you can easely see the Imbabura and the Cotacachi from your balcony. The owners are very king and can give you a lot of advice for your activities ! The sheets are made from fabrics sourced directly from the Otavalo market, so we're immersed right into our journey!
Everything is nice in this place

Didn't end up staying at Hostal Curiñan because they overbooked and then made arrangements for us to stay at a different family-owned hotel. BEWARE....massive bait and switch when they "overbook" with an attempt to up-charge...especially if you don't speak Spanish.
We made a reservation at Hostal Curiñan through Booking.com and got a confirmation number. We did not get a notice from Booking or Hostal Curiñan that we needed to contact Hostal Curiñan to further confirm the reservation.
When we arrived at Hostal Curiñan, we were told by the wife that there were no rooms because we didn't confirm the reservation (we weren't alone - there was a list of us that had been overbooked), but that they would secure lodging for our family of 5 back in the city (Hostal Curiñan is located outside the city). The husband kindly drove us back to the city to the hotel they secured for us. The husband and wife at Hostal Curiñan were very nice and offered to pick us up the next morning and take us back to Hostal Curiñan for free breakfast (part of the package for staying at Hostal Curiñan) because the new hotel didn't have breakfast facilities.
It went downhill from there. The new hotel that Hostal Curiñan secured for us was run by the sister of the husband at Hostal Curiñan. She was not there when we arrived, but her young-adult daughter was. We asked the daughter multiple times to pay and the daughter said we would have to wait for her mother.
When we got back to the hotel after dinner, the mother was there. Instead of paying $38.26 per night (the price confirmed through Booking.com), the mother demanded we pay $150 ($30 per person).
Thankfully we had someone in our party who spoke fluent Spanish and was able to negotiate. The mother got on the phone and talked to her brother from Hostal Curiñan. Other family members of the hotel proprietor entered the hallway during the negotiations. There was a lot of heated back and forth and the woman finally honored the Booking.com price, but it was a very tense situation.
Unfortunately, a complete trust buster for staying at Hostal Curiñan.

Beautiful location
Very nice hosts
Very clean
Be careful: the location in Google maps is incorrect. You have to go further up and only use Via Curiñan!

Very cool place. Friendly safe atmosphere, baggage storage was a bonus and the free walking tour was excellent! Fernadito is the best. So thankful I could still order food hours after checking out 😀 Will definitely come back and recommend to friends.
I’m a snob and a private bathroom would have been preferable.

The owners were just amazing and very kind people. The location might scare some people of because it is further from the center, but you exchange distance for a great view on the hill. For me absolutely worth the trade.

The staff was very kind and helpfull, food was excellent, the room was clean and the view from the patio was amazing !
Seems like a family member is staying in a room of the hotel for a moment and he was playing really loud music all day and night on our first day. Couldn't sleep. The next day the staff let him know to stop his music and he did at least.

This is a fantastic little gem located a short walk away from the center of Otavalo. As you walk up the hill you don't expect to find such a lovely well-designed structure. The view is wonderful and the comfort is top. My room was super clean and the bed was comfy. And, the low price made this place the best value accommodation I've ever stayed at. But stlll, the hosts are the best, warm, friendly, and welcoming! Super recommended!
All awesome

This is a wonderful family run guesthouse. The Quecha family José,Matilde and their son Inti who run it could not have bern nicer. The rooms have lovely colourful bedspreads in quecha style. I arrived about 7pm and was surprised as i didn't realise it was 15 mins walk from the centre but José drove me down to the excellent street food area for great food. Next day after the market for $30 they drove me to the lake & waited almost 3 hours while i hiked around it. I loved thid place & the family, easy to communicate also as José has good english.
