Nothing
Of all the hotels and guest apartments I have stayed in around the world (and have been in hundreds of these), this is the biggest disappointment, mainly because of the high rating this apartment has received. Upon entering the apartment we felt a strong unpleasant odor (possibly cigarette smoke), the apartment was tastelessly decorated, the walls cracked, stained pillows that were disgusting to sleep on, uncomfortable mattresses, one of the sheets was dirty. The showers had no trash cans and no clothes racks and we had to put money in to put clothes on. In the kitchen there is a vending machine for a fee that is very noisy. We tried to take out a few drinks, some did not come out and the money was not returned and what came out was not cold. In addition, there were food packages and open snacks that were probably left by previous guests in the kitchen cabinets. The oven was not cleaned before we entered and we found food scraps in it on used baking paper that was inside. In addition, it turned out in retrospect, only in the morning, that there is a switch for the air conditioners, very low above the floor that if not pressed, the remote does not turn on the air conditioner. The owner of the place did not bother to check that the switches were in the "on" position nor did she bother to update us about the hidden breaker and we had to sleep without air conditioning on a very hot night.

The large Aprtement was great! Our Host was very friendly and quick in responding to any questions / requests. The location is ideal - just a few minutes away (by foot) from the old center of Matera. Would highly recommend this place!
The only minor thing that was not ideal was that there were hardly any kitchen utensils for cooking (and no frying pan). Only a bread knife and a long plastic spoon. I bought a kitchen knife and cheese grater (@ Kasanova in the city center) and improvised with other things to cook. Other things (bowls, collanders, glasses, plates, forks, spoons, etc.) were abundant - which was good!

Secure onsite parking
Easy walk to the old city
Huge well heated apartment
4 bedrooms, 9 beds, 2 bathrooms
Maria and Giacomo helped me to order 2 new hubcaps through the Renault dealership in Matera after I damaged them in Napoli. Their local knowledge and ability to negotiate a tricky situation in Italian was magnificent. They advised on all appropriate documentation required and Giacomo accompanied me to the dealership to collect the hub caps.
The car looked a million bucks and I’m sure that the 60 euro I spent was a fraction of what the hire car company would have charged me for the damage.
We were able to handwash and dry all of our laundry on the large line while we were there also.
Very nice helpful people and a very nice comfortable apartment which offered a truly homelike experience for me and my two sons.
