About this house rental
HUGE DISCOUNTS for the remaining weeks of the season, starting with MEMORIAL DAY!
Welcome to the 2024 season!
We have learned a lot about health and safety in the last four years. We continue to disinfect between guests and leave plenty of hand sanitizer out. Also the laundry will be fully supplied with detergent so you can use it to your hearts contest.
The Simple Life is a family friendly vacation house, not an office, however the past three years many of our guests worked remotely or “attended school” while at The Simple Life, so we upgraded the WiFi - new password displayed on the bottom of the new router- and added an air printer, located in the TV cabinet in the living room. Just plug it in, and go! If you need more ink and paper, please replenish and leave it for the next guests!

We had an amazing time. The location was perfect and the home was comfortable.

This was our second time staying at The Simple Life. In every way it was a wonderful experience. The property is clean, comfortable, spacious, well equipped, well maintained, and located within just a few minutes' walking distance of the beach. Highly recommended.

We couldn't have been happier with "The Simple Life". The house was spacious and the location was perfect. What a beautiful, quick walk to the beach under shady trees We really preferred Duck over other areas of the OBX - quiet and peaceful but still close to everything we needed.
The house was just as pictured and described. We found it clean and spacious. The kitchen was well-equipped for preparing all of our meals. We loved the huge island for preparing and enjoying meals. There was ample seating in the dining room, the living room was large, and we enjoyed all of the porches and balconies.
We were happy to find lots of goodies supplied for enjoying the beach - chairs, boogie boards, and even a wagon for hauling all of our stuff. The outdoor shower was hugely useful to wash off the sand from the beach. We enjoyed the pool a few time, too. What a nice extra!
We took a wild horse tour, visited the Wright Brothers museum, and visited sights on Roanoke Island. Other than those trips, we just relaxed and enjoyed the beach.

Very nice place on quiet street within a short walk to the beach. Our family had a very relaxing week at this beautiful home.

Lovely home with great location . 3 minute walk to beautiful private beach. Amenities were great and host responded quickly to any questions or concerns. A great week in Duck NC!

The house was very spacious and has a great location. We had a lot of fun at the beach and on an air boat adventure. My daughter really enjoyed the juicer and made all sorts of drinks.

My 21 year old daughter declared that the house has good vibes. She was right! It was clean, comfortable, attractive, and well-equipped. The shady street was gorgeous. Easy, short walk to beach. Beach wasn’t crowded at all. Plenty of nice beach chairs and a beach cart at the house. Highly recommend renting cycles - the area is great for walking, biking and running. Duck Cycles was great to rent from. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay! The house had everything we needed and was lovely. Easy walk to the beach. Plenty of space for gathering or avoiding each other. Never did find the pool, but yhat was ok. Didn't want to go home.

We loved visiting OBX and Duck is a great location. The property is really nice and my family was impressed. It was my first time at the Outter Banks and I really enjoyed my time there. The property was thoroughly cleaned and welcoming. We were looking for the bottle of wine but it was elusive. The outside shower only operated on very hot water. Lovely neighborhood and great vibe from my perspective. I love the cedar siding, numerous covered patio’s and easy access to the beach.

We had a great experience! The short walk to the beach, a short drive to the pool/restaurants, and the peaceful neighborhood was a great combination for our family to enjoy. The house had everything we needed and great communication with the host made the whole vacation just perfect!

We really enjoyed our time in Duck and at this property. The house was very nice and had everything we needed. The location is great, with a short walk to the beach and easy access in and out of town. The pool access was perfect for the kids. All in all, we had a great stay and would definitely consider staying here again.

Our family thought the house was very nice! It was spacious, clean, up to date and very comfortable. The kitchen had many appliances for cooking. We did not happen to use the grill outside. The back deck and screen porch would’ve been nice if the weather had been better suited for their use. The neighbors were quiet. The beach is a short walk away, not too far. We contacted the owners once because we hadn’t noticed information emailed during the day we were traveling. They responded quickly with the answer we needed. We enjoyed this rental and would return in future.

The Simple Life was clean and spacious for our family of 6 adults and 2 children. The house description and pictures on VRBO are accurate. We were very appreciative to check in before 5 pm as the house was cleaned and ready by noon. FYI there were 3-4 working beach chairs and 2 pop up shade tents. You might need to rent or bring your own chairs and umbrella. The community pool was nice and the beach of course was perfect. We loved our stay and would definitely return! Thanks so much.

Perfect spot for our family
Ilona’s home is perfectly nestled among beautiful live oaks and is a very short walk to the beach that is quite and not overcrowded. We saw dolphins swim by every day, and enjoyed seeing a stingray, as well. The home accommodated our family of 6 comfortably and we used the well stocked kitchen daily. The neighborhood is quite and peaceful. Duck traffic can get very congested at times, and be quite a hassle, so we just went the other direction towards Corolla, if the traffic was bad. Definitely try The Paper Canoe for a nice dinner out. It’s on the Sound side and has beautiful sunsets!
Ilona was very helpful when we realized we’d left behind a cord we needed.
You’ll enjoy your stay here immensely!

Nice OBX getaway
Pros:
Duck is a cute town, food (esp cravings, scallops and crab cakes were the best ever) was delicious. The boardwalk was fun. The property was close to the beach, I would say 1/3 mile, the road is residential and I only met a few cars; felt safe walking there with small kids. The house was roomy, and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable, aside from the two twin room. Those work okay for small kids, wouldn’t recommend for anyone over 7. The kitchen was lovely, and well stocked. I wanted for no utensils while there, and I cooked 6 dinners. Fridge was large and counter space plentiful. You can really tell this is someone’s home, as it feels homey. Outdoor shower was a life saver, loved having a place to hang suits to dry as well.
Indoor showers were also lovely, 10/10 there. Water was hot, pressure was great, and we never ran out of hot water with 7 people bathing.
Light switches were all marked and that was so helpful. Ceiling fans in all room, and it’s wonderful in July, although the air conditioner worked exceptionally well.
Cons:
Check in time is 5pm, and that’s very late, we were stuck in dinner traffic for over an hour and a half. Frustrating start to the vacation.
Check out time is worse. 9am is awful trying to scramble small kids out and into a long car ride home. Had I known that beforehand, I would’ve chosen another rental.
I’ve never stayed somewhere that I had to make and unmake my own bed, while paying a linen fee of 50 dollars. They wash the sheets on-site, so I’m not sure what I paid for there.
The house wasn’t spotless. There were empty beer cans on the porch, and the porch outside the main bedroom was too dirty to sit on. Black dust like substance on the window sills. Hair in the shower upstairs. Neither were enough to contact the owner over, so I don’t know if they would correct the issue if notified. I expect more cleanliness with such a high cleaning fee.
The pool was a good distance away, we had to drive. It’s nice once you get there, with a nice kiddie pool for the littlest ones.
The beach is heavily eroded at the oyster lane entrance, and we had to walk down to the second one, that’s another 1/3 mile. Not an owner issue, and was told by another sanderling resident a new beach is on the way.
Overall, I’m happy and grateful to have been able to stay at the simple life. I felt at home while there, and it’s a vacation I’ll remember forever.

Amazing beach rental!
This was a great property in Duck- really close to beach access, the house was large with multiple porches and areas for relaxing. Owners were super nice and responsive. Great house for families with small kids especially. Would definitely return!

Exceptional House / Great Neighborhood / Responsive Owners
We were welcomed to check in early, and found the house super clean. The bathrooms and kitchen were new and well stocked. The owners were incredibly responsive when we had questions. The neighborhood is quiet and shady and perfect for relaxing. We spent the mornings at the beach (a quick and easy walk) and the afternoons reading on the screened porch. It was a wonderful stay.

Absolutely Perfect
Ilona & Michael could not have provided a better stay and experience at the Simple Life. They were always so communicative during the entire process from booking to checkout and the house is even better than described. You drive into a Live Oak canopied street just steps from the beach and walk into a beautiful, open home. The porches are phenomenal for reading, eating or enjoying your coffee or evening cocktail. Everything was clean, well kept and beds very comfortable. The location is perfect in this beautiful, private street just steps to the beach. We cannot wait to come back.

Quiet and Relaxing
We were very impressed with this property. The home is large and clean, with plenty of areas to relax, including multiple decks. It has convenient supplies (bedding, games, cleaning items) that make vacationing a lot easier. It is also in a beautiful neighborhood that feels secluded, but it is only a short stroll to amazing beaches and a short drive to town. We found the home owners very responsive when making our booking. Our family definitely recommends this property to others.

Magical tree canopy!
We are very much missing the magical tree canopy and relaxation offered at this home. It was so nice not to have to worry about packing every little thing - from the hand soap to the laundry supplies to the paper towels, those little touches made all the difference! We’ll be back.

A beautiful, comfortable, and well-equipped beach house
We all loved everything about The Simple Life. It was beautiful, comfortable, and well-equipped, and we especially enjoyed the spacious balconies in the beautiful natural setting. The beach was a very short walk away, but the house still felt wonderfully tranquil. The owners are nice too!

Perfect location for an escape
This home is in the perfect location for relaxation in Duck housed under a beautiful canopy of trees...just steps from a very nice area on the beach. The home was a great layout for our stay. Grandparents took the primary suite on the main level & our family of four took the 3 bedrooms upstairs. The oversized island was my favorite part of the kitchen.

Simply Great at The Simple Life
We had another great week in the Outer Banks and it was made even better by staying at the Simple Life. It’s a fantastic beach house with a great location! Loved being able to walk under the canopy of trees over to the beach, it’s a short walk and easy to carry what you need for the day. We loved the community pool and spent several afternoons there. The house itself is perfect. Great indoor and outdoor spaces, we loved the huge shower in the primary bedroom, and loved that linens and bath towels were provided! Made things simple! The kitchen is great with everything we needed to make meals, including great cookware that’s large enough for a family. The owners were very nice and communication was excellent! We look forward to returning in the near future!! Thank you for sharing your place with us!

Great house in OBX - Village of Duck
Really enjoyed staying at the Simple Life house. Very comfortable and convenient to beach and OBX attractions. Comfortable rooms. Very well decorated throughout the house. Fast WiFi. Easy walk to beaches. Very quiet neighborhood, at least in April. Enjoyed sitting on the decks under the trees.
Only small issue we had was the wood floor in master bedroom was sticky in places. Otherwise, house was immaculately clean.
Highly recommended property.

Peaceful and spacious getaway
We had a lovely stay at The Simple Life. It was quiet and peaceful, on a tree-lined street just a minute's walk to the beach or to the sound. The house was just as it looked in the photos; we particularly appreciated the roomy kitchen with long island where we could eat and save the dining table for puzzles and games! Our daughter enjoyed the tree swing/rope and after seeing otters (!) playing in the pond down the street, she said it was the best house she had ever been to. Everything was clean, there was plenty of dishware/cookware/towels, and it was convenient to drive to the grocery or to get coffee (loved having a coffee pot and Keurig though!). There is plenty of room for a family, while we were only three people it would have fit eight more than comfortably. We would absolutely return and recommend the house to others.

Wonderful beach house and location
The house feels spacious and uncluttered, yet also warm and inviting. We liked that it had two master suites, and also a screened porch and two decks. The setting in a neighborhood with many live oaks is beautiful, the walk to the beach is short, and the location is perfect for a quick trip to either Duck or Corolla for groceries, shopping or dining. We enjoyed The Simple Life!

Enjoyed it! Great location! Wonderful property and hosts!
The grounds really are like a fairy tale with the canopy of trees. Location is great: ecluded and quiet, but only a short walk to the beach and a few minutes to shops and restaurants. Very easy instructions and responsive host. The Wifi went out briefly and the owners contacted us quickly to give us an update. We didn't care cause we were enjoying the beach, but it was good to know that they were on top of things. We loved the property! Very clean and well maintained. Everything is well thought out with the guest in mind. We didn't want for anything. The large walk in shower and soaking tubs are a dream. I really relaxed a lot! Highly recommend!

A Beach House in the Forest
From the moment you drive up to the house, you will feel your whole body relax. The house is in the middle of a canopy of a tree lined street yet a 3 minute walk to a beautiful beach. The kitchen if fully equipped with everything from a juicer to fantastic refrigerator. The house is extremely clean and easy to keep that way as there are lots of closets and spaces to store things. It is situated in the perfect location as the neighborhood is quiet but in a few miles you are in Duck Village filled with restaurants and shops. There is a beautiful Harris Teeter only a few miles down the road heading towards Corolla. If you are the lucky one to get the master bedroom -- the oversized shower is fantastic! All the beds were very comfortable! Enjoy your stay!

Great off-season weekend at Simple Life
Great house - very clean and comfortable. Loved all the outdoor decks and screened in porch. We spent a lot of time hanging out around the kitchen area. The master is super nice! Short walk to the beach and easy drive into downtown Duck.

Lovely Home—Wonderful Owners
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at TheSimpleLife. The home was quite clean and the furnishings very comfortable. The design and layout were very welcoming. After a short walk through beautiful live oaks, you arrive at a gorgeous beach. Shops and restaurants are quite close, but you feel secluded from all of the hustle and bustle at the house. The owners were a joy and quite helpful. Will definitely return.

Relax at the outer banks
Everything we wanted for our quick get-away was there for us. The house is exceptional with a quick walk to the beach. The surrounding oak grove gives the property an extra level of privacy.

A family favorite!
We have stayed at this house for the last three years and always have a wonderful time. The house itself has everything we need -- a great kitchen layout that enables us to cook while hanging out with family, and a fantastic living room with high ceilings and great light that's perfect for unwinding / doing a puzzle after a day at the beach.
The house is located a short walk from the beach, but in a really nice stand of older trees (my kids say it looks like a fairy tale forrest). We look forward to returning next year!
