Ci torneremo sicuramente

The property was very clean, comfortable and well located. There was a continental breakfast in the room and complimentary water, juices and milk- all replenished daily. The view from the private large terrace was exceptional!
There was nothing to dislike

Tutto partendo dal personale molto gentile e disponibile da prima del check-in fino al momento del check-out.

Very beautiful room, very clean and its main bathroom was great style. Giacomo was very friendly and helpful, he runs his business very professionally. All in all we enjoyed the stay in this excellent house in the exceptional town of Matera.
A window/door with mosquito net would have been great, as the humidity in the cave room could be bothersome, requiring some direct external air instead of the aircon.
4.8
Everything was great. Of course, the sassi setting and showe stood out.
Very polite host. Location is convenient - you can street park your car very near (5mins) in the public area (paid parking) and just walk to here - its step free.
Everything. No real breakfast yet but we didnt mind.

very typical
great design
fantastic furniture
great helpful host
right at the bottom of the sassi barisano
great view
i somehow “forgot” that staying in a cave could be very humid… the smell and humidity were part of the experience.

The room was big, nice and clean, also had a huge beautiful balcony and outdoor sitting. Location is great, just in the center of the Sassi. Excellent service.
The room didn’t include breakfast as was supposed to by the reservation. that’s why I have it only 8 stars. They just give few free bottles of water and juice and bars of crackers and cakes. Definitely not a breakfast.

de host, de locatie en de sfeer
alles was perfect

It's a unique, gorgeous, beautifully restored, clean , warm (but comfortable) place. Giacomo, the manager, was super helpful with tips on where to find different type of parking, and he even took us back to our car upon leaving, with his own car (that has license to get into the ZTL = Zona Traffico Limitato)so that we wouldn't have to haul our luggages up on the stairs.
The location is perfect, the view is amazing. It is just like in the photos if not better!
The breakfast was a cold one, some jam, Nutella and a toast like bread in packages. But the fridge was full with awesome juices and water and milk, do that was great. And in the morning you could ask for as many espresso as you liked and Giacomo made them right away.

The location was great. Host was very helpful. The rom was good and the view was fantastic.
All was good but could do with some slippers due to cold floor. Talked with host and he said he’d provide some 👍

Our host, Giacomo, offered to meet us at the train station and then, when we were leaving, he gave us a ride to the bus station, all unasked for and very, very kind. The room was fashioned from a typical Matera cave and provided us with a real Matera experience. The bathroom was extraordinary with a huge round tub topped with a large rain shower head, all created from the stone of the area. The location was perfect for seeing Matera by foot and near excellent dining options.
Nothing -- everything was great.

Amazing location in the heart of sassi. Amazing owner - we were greeted with water, juices and coffee.
The apartment is out of this world, authentic cave transformed into cosy room with the impressive bathtub
Wifi is practically nonexistent, that could be a deal breaker for some

Incredibly nice place inside the sassi or old town of Matera. We had the upstairs unit which had a private patio. Very comfortable bed but the view from the patio was the best part. We had breakfast on the patio and relax outside at night. The cave rooms looked nice too.
4.8
Fantastic location with great balcony & amazing view across the old city. Perfect location for exploring.
No way to make coffee in the room though could make tea & lovely coffee from host downstairs

Everything was excellent, spacious room with comfy bed and great view from terrace. Giacomo went an extra mile and picked us from the parking garage. We couldn’t ask more.

great sense of welcoming

Everything!

Very comfy beds, quiet in the night and the most amazing, grounding sleep.
Such a gorgeous surprise shower experience in our room.
The breakfast was in packets because there is no where for him to give us something to eat, but the choice was OK. He is doing the best with the circumstances. Before in this situation somewhere else we were given vouchers to eat at a cafe - but there are not many cafes in this area.

excellent location! well designed room. friendly and helpful staff.

Location, right in the heart of old Matera. semi cave experience and the shower, esp kids loved it. comfortable beds.
One little downside though would be breakfast.
Atleast fresh cornetto and coffee would up the game like some other hotels do in the area. breakfast was just prepacked cheap cakes and biscuits, came in handy as snacks for kids. we couldn’t drink coffee as the kettle had water in there and lots of limescales.

Wow experience! It looks like you live in a cave. Very clean, stylish, interesting. Ground floor apartment has a huge shower in the cave. 1st floor apartment has a big terrace with the nice view to Matera Sassi. The host Giacomo is very friendly, helpfull. great!
It was a bit too humid in the ground floor apartment. maybe because of the weather. In summer should be OK.
4.8
The host was amazing and went all out to make it a pleasant experience for us. Plenty of snacks and water served everyday. The room is amazing and gives a great cave experience and the location is brilliant.
4.8
There is an amazing view from the big terrace, 360 degree view in the middle of the Sassi. The host was helpful and carried us from and to the bus station. They filled the minibar every day and it was free to drink them. They cleaned the room every day even if it was not necessary.

Perfect
Amazing massive bathtub, only problem was the water wasn’t that hot.

The place is big and spacious. Clean and very well designed. The bathroom was amazing. The shower experience in the old cave is something the words cannot describe :)
Breakfast was disappointing. Those are ready dry products in the room.

The accommodation is in an old cave and it is absolutely stunning! The bathroom is gorgeous! The owner, Giacomo, was super kind. Would definitely return here and highly reccommend it.

We were able to park the car at an indoor lot not far from the property (under an arrangement with the owner) for 15 euros a day and get a transfer to and from the hotel. There are free parking lots available but we were happy for the convenience. The hotel is located at an excellent spot in the Sassi, not far from the top, and does not require stairs. The views are excellent. The rooms we each had were very spacious and clean. I enjoyed the spectacular terrace that I had with mine. My friend had the Quadruple room with the Turkish bath and he enjoyed it very much. The beds (and bedding) were comfortable and the showers were good.
Giacomo, the owner, is a lovely guy and was extremely helpful to us when we needed to find a Covid test prior to our flight home. He took a considerable amount of time making calls in order to successfully secure appointments for us. Greatly appreciated!
I recommend Pietragialla as a great choice in the Sassi and would stay here again if I return.
The breakfast offering is minimal here consisting of coffee, tea, and some pre-packaged toasts and jams. There are many cafes available nearby and in the area above the Sassi if you want something more.
4.8
Matera is a most unusual and unique experience. Pietragialla is a beautiful and spacious B&B built in one of the actual caves that was once used by the local people. Giacomo our host could not have been more helpful and accommodating to some of our needs. He runs a spotlessly clean, large and beautiful establishment. We would highly recommend this to anyone.

While touring the Puglia Region we wanted to stay in the heart of Matera in the sassi section. Originally carved from rock, this "cave" home is quite comfortable and the bathroom is spectacular. In fact the spa worthy bath served as a cool retreat after a very hot day exploring the Sassi di Matera and its fascinating history. If you want an authentic, yet very comfortable, experience in a sassi. This is a lovely apartment.
