About this house rental
Completely restored with attention to detail, this very spacious 1908 home is in the heart of the beach capital of Cape Breton, the town of Port Hood.
The most popular sandy beaches and warm Atlantic waters are only a short walk down the street, or a two minute drive. Walk to any of the many amenities in town including grocery store, restaurants and pubs. The house is less than a 30-minute drive from the famed Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses.
All new, well appointed kitchen including stainless fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. The original dining table seats eight comfortably.
There are two new full washrooms (one with a tub/shower and one with a shower), one upstairs one downstairs, as well as a new outdoor shower with hot water. The laundry room has a new, full sized washer/dryer, and a clothesline for beachwear and towels. The front living room with bay window is comfortable and relaxing, while the den down the hall with couch (converts to a bed) and tv offers a separate space for kids to hang out. We now have Starlink satellite for great connectivity.
Outside you will find a new stainless bbq, a big side yard for games, picnic table for eight, and additional outdoor seating.
All furnishings are new or tastefully chosen antique. Comfy beds have cozy linens in all three of the bedrooms plus den. We supply beach towels and chairs, even a beach blanket and cooler.
While the calendar indicates we are open to shorter bookings we reserve the right not to accept a booking request. Our preference is for 3+ day rentals. We will do our best to accommodate shorter booking requests however these will depend on the availability of our cleaner and popularity of dates. Bookings over 5 guests will incur a nightly surcharge for utilities and wear and tear. Shoulder season weekly and monthly rentals may be discounted. Please send us an inquiry for your dates and we will get back to you quickly.

Beautifully renovated home! Our family of five stayed here for a week, and being from the area, entertained family and friends throughout the week. The house never felt overcrowded with a kitchen / dining space perfect for the east coast kitchen party. The house is well equipped throughout. We would certainly stay here again!

This is a lovely, tastefully renovated old house. Port Hood is a charming area, the beaches are wonderful (the water is delightfully warm!) The house is very well equipped with everything you could want and the hosts are extremely responsive. I recommend morning coffee on the front porch.

We had a lovely week in the Yellow House! We had never visited Nova Scotia before and this was a great introduction. Even before check in Tim was a responsive host, answering questions to get us set up for the week. Check in was super easy, and Tim let us know the house was ready early for us.
The house itself is immaculately clean and fully stocked with nearly everything you could think of. Our stay was during very warm weather, so one or two more fans would have helped, but it wasn’t a big deal. The beds were comfortable and everything was up to date. I loved the sonata the washer would sing when done with a load!
The Port Hood area is stunning. We particularly loved Sunset Beach. The water was warm and calm all week. Port Hood is a great launch point for adventures to Baddeck, Inverness, and Cheticamp as well.
Thanks to the Yellow House for a fantastic intro to Atlantic CA!

My husband and I along with our daughter and her husband stayed for 4 days. During our stay we explored the local area and Cape Breton . It was breathtaking. We loved the proximity to the beach and the house was beautifully restored. There was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Thank you so much for hosting us.

Lovely character home. Very bright and beautiful. It was in a nice location, and we were able to spread out which was fantastic. 2 bathrooms one on main floor and one upstairs which was a bonus. We felt at home and safe at the house. We loved Port Hood and Judique. Had locals offer to help us find places and helped us when we needed to get documents printed out. Fantastic experience.

Beautiful old home with modern amenities. No air conditioners but a nice breeze to help cool down the home.
Very comfortable beds and a wonderful location.

The house was immaculate and ever so comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The master bed was so-o-o comfortable. Expect to hear some small creaks and groans from the house at night as the temperature comes down. This is totally to be expected in an old house and did not keep us awake. The only small problem we had was the wifi service is very slow and watching any videos was really painful. We would definitely rrecommend the yellow house to people.

We had a great stay in this beautiful home in Nova Scotia. The house was perfect for our group with two adult bedrooms and a group twin room for the children. We loved our stay near the coast and enjoyed picking up seaglass at the beach in Inverness. This was also a great "jumping off point" for beginning the Cabot Trail.

We had a wonderful time thanks in no small part due to the Yellow House! The weather was chilly while we were there but we had a cozy place to have dinner, play games and spend time with family. Walked to the beach and took a drive around the beautiful Cabot Trail.
Highly recommend this lovely place with its comfy beds, clean kitchen and bathrooms. Would recommend and rent again in a heartbeat!

We arrived 2 days after Hurricane Fiona. Thanks Tim for confirming that the Yellow House had electricity and for your careful, thoughtful and timely updates as we decided whether to come so soon after the storm. The house was comfortable and lovely and we were able to find some places to hike. Our visit to the Doug Frazer Art Gallery was an unplanned find and we enjoyed a few great meals at the Red Shoe. We left a book for future guests about traveling the Cabot Trail. Thank for your kindness as we traveled towards the storm. A great place for a small group of avid hikers!!

We stayed at the beautiful yellow house in Port Hood for 6 days and thoroughly recommend it. The house is very well equipped and has been renovated with taste. It was a very comfortable stay while we toured Cape Breton. We appreciated the convenience of the location and the peace and quiet. The owners were very easy to communicate with and we could tell they take great care in their property.

Process to rent and communication with Tim and Kristin was easy. They were very timely in their responses to our questions.
If you are after beaches, then Port Hood is lovely. Close to Mabou for great Celtic music and food; distance to golf is reasonable. Port Hood is limited for meals (we went to the Clove Hitch… friendly staff and very good food) and shopping.
Beds were comfy and kitchen was well equipped. All in all, enjoyable spot to land.

Great beaches and lovely cottage
We had a wonderful stay in Port Hood at the Yellow Cottage- our first time being to the area. The cottage was spacious enough for our group of 9 and the beaches are only a short walk away. We definitely want to come back!

Beautiful
We had a wonderful stay over the holidays. Tim & Kristen were excellent hosts and even took time out of their own holidays to check-in. Having grown up in this house, I was blown away with the beautiful job done with the renovations. The house had all the necessary supplies and then some. This home won’t disappoint!

Short Stay
We really enjoyed our stay in Port Hood. The only thing that we didn't consider that would make the property better would be air conditioning as it's an old home and the rooms upstairs get warm. Otherwise a lovely little place.

Fall Biking in Port Hood
A perfect spot to stay if you are planning a bike trip on the Celtic ShoresTrail. Beach is just down the road, the house is spotless with very comfortable beds. Two bathrooms made it easy for all couples to clean up. The kitchen and living room were perfect size for and evening of dining and guitar playing. Wonderful
quiet friendly town. Will definately be back again.

Wonderful home
We enjoyed our stay and found it very comfortable and well appointed with the amenities very complete. We were surprised that there were no dish washing utensils or dishcloths and dish towels provide nor tissues. The recycling was a bit too ambitious so we took all the garbage home to be sorted there. More friendly recycling containers and a compost bin specifically lined would have been a bit easier. Great stay and would recommend it to others.

The Yellow house
It was such a delight staying in that beautiful house. We are impressed of how clean and organized it is and we’re definitely in love with the kitchen (smiles). Also, the paintings they chose to put up in the walls are just gorgeous!
We truly appreciate the owners for cordially accommodating us even when they’re away.
