About this cabin rental
Welcome to our family cabin, in the hills of Shaver Lake’s old West Village and the heart of the Sierra National Forest!
Our cabin offers easy access to all the area has to offer. Restaurants and shops are just a five-minute walk into town. And beautiful Dorabella Cove on the lake - perfect for relaxing, fishing, swimming, or setting out on a local hike - can be reached in an easy 10-15 minutes by foot. Boat launches, water-sports rentals, and the local free museum are just a five-minute drive up the road. And China Peak is just 19 miles away, making the cabin a great home base for skiing, snowboarding, and back-country adventure.
The cabin itself also ideally blends modern comfort and convenience with old-time authenticity and charm. We bought it fully renovated in 2019, and have enjoyed adding amenities since. But it was first built nearly 75 years prior and retains many original details. The cabin’s present-day amenities include:
- A cozy back patio with a fire pit, an old stone grill, and Adirondack- and bench-style seating, perfect for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows or enjoying an evening around the fire.
- A new (in fall 2023) six-person hot tub, set on a covered patio overlooking the fire pit.
- A large front deck with a covered, bar-style eating area, two separate lounge-style seating areas, a comfy two-person hammock, and a full-sized gas grill connected directly to the cabin’s main propane line.
- A well-equipped kitchen stocked with everything from dishes and utensils to cookware, a crock pot, a blender, baking sheets, and spices.
- A large, thermostat-controlled gas fireplace capable of delivering both ambiance and heat (a lot of it, depending on the settings) at the touch of button.
- A tankless hot-water heater capable of delivering unlimited hot water - and thus showers - on demand.
- Reliable high-speed internet on a well-meshed Google-Home system capable of streaming video to at least a half dozen work, school, and/or entertainment devices at once (we all lived, worked, and went to remote school from there for months at a time during the pandemic).
- A cozy loft workspace situated under a large roof-window balcony that overlooks the deck while delivering natural light, fresh air, and upstairs access to the outdoors.
- A full office in a separate outbuilding on the property, featuring a large, live-edge pine desk, two leather office chairs, two high-definition monitors, a leather recliner, a TV, a portable A/C unit, and a thermostat-controlled gas stove for both ambiance and heat - perfect for remote work or schooling (or even just gaming or relaxing) and available by prior, separate arrangement (normally in connection with a longer stay or for a small additional fee).
- A laundry room in the same outbuilding, featuring a full-sized washer and dryer and similarly available by prior, separate arrangement.
- A Level 2 EV charger for easy overnight charging (currently set 20A for our PHEV, but wired at 70A and adjustable with just a bit of notice).
- Security-camera coverage of both parking areas and the outbuilding area, including the adjacent hot tub (privacy matters; the cameras are just for security, and no living space or either the front deck or the back patio is covered).
We also love pets! And our pets love the cabin. The place is set up for them, with retractable gates at the front and back stairs to the deck and food and water dishes available just inside the back door. We do require advance approval of any pets and generally charge a $25 fee per pet per night, to help defray additional cleaning and wear-and-tear costs.
Please don’t hesitate to message us any time, with any questions at all. This truly is our family cabin, where we ourselves stay regularly for anywhere from days to weeks (and in one instance months) at a time as an escape from the city and a base for exploring the area. We love our cabin. But we’ll be candid about whether it seems like a good fit for you. And we’ll be happy regardless to share relevant insights we may have into what the area has to offer, from markets and restaurants to recreation and exploration.
Cheers,
Janneke and Reuben

We went up to Shaver for Our Anniversary..
We loved the amazing outdoor spaces the most! So relaxing. The only thing for my kids was the stairs where a little narrow & steep..
would be absolutely perfect for smaller kids. We have a 22, 20 & 17 so for young adults it’s a little tight but for kids this would be absolutely perfect.. Our host is Really kind and fast to respond. Definitely recommending this Cabin to family & friends!

Such a cozy cabin nestled in a great neighborhood. There was plenty of room for all of us with all of the amenities of home. The Stocked kitchen made cooking a breeze and the fire pit and hot tub were a bonus. Communication with owner was excellent! Would say here again

It was my Mother’s Day and birthday relaxation vacation. My family loves the outdoors. We enjoyed a healthy bike ride and then the jacuzzi. The cabin was very nicely stocked. Definitely enjoyed the deck! Comfortable.

We had a great time staying at the cabin in February. ( Family of 4 and a dog) There are beautiful patios and outdoor spaces that would be fun to relax on and BBQ in the summer. Very dog friendly for our old Labrador.
The downstairs bedroom has a double bed- probably best for one person or two cuddly people. Upstairs loft is very spacious and has lots of beds and options for sleeping including a separate room with two double beds. Access to the loft is via a very narrow and steep stair / ladder which we were all able to navigate but probably not great for anyone older or with mobility/ balance issues or very young kids (2-4 yr olds) because they could fall down the access opening above the ladder stair. Kids older than that will love the loft and the access stairs as soon as they can be trusted not to jump down :)
The kitchen is well stocked and great for cooking. The living room is very comfy with a large couch and two recliner chairs. The gas fireplace provides heat and makes the whole house feel cozy. The bathroom is updated and beautiful with a lovely stone walled shower. There are games for fun family game nights. The hot tub is new and close to the house. There is a great outdoor fire pit with seating surrounding it. Location is great as you can walk to town in less than 5 minutes and it is in a friendly well developed neighborhood. The owners were very responsive by text and helpful. We would highly recommend this cabin!

Great location and very well cared for cabin. Has everything you might need or want. Level of cleanliness 10/10, not an easy feat given it's a cabin in the woods (zero dust, zero critters inside the property). I had one question during my stay, host answered immediately and was very helpful. Hope to stay here again.

We stayed in this wonderful cabin the first few days of spring break. It had snowed an inch or two the morning before we arrived. It was beautiful! We loved the ease of check-in. House was as stated on listing. Fireplace was amazing and kept the house cozy. My husband and I stayed downstairs, bedroom has a dble bed and not much room around bed. We handled it fine. Our two boys stayed upstairs. Since there are four beds upstairs they we’re excited not to have to sleep together. We cooked most of our meals at the house which was great. We did walk to dinner one night to a local restaurant. We loved that the house was close to town so we could walk! We loved our time here!

We could not have asked for a better cabin or a better travel experience to shaver. The cabin was so clean from top to bottom. We didn’t even see one bug or cobwebs which is huge for a cabin rental. Everything in it seemed to be upgraded and nicer quality than every rental we’ve ever stayed at. There were nice dishes, high quality cookware, appliances were newer and everything worked perfectly. The attention to detail was amazing and we had everything we needed for our stay. Reuben was very open to our communication and was so gracious with us. This was the first time that the entire family including our pups felt right at home. We finally found the cabin we want to return to in the future and are so grateful for the memories we created on this trip. Thank you for everything!

Four of us arrived for a girls weekend (even with an impending snow storm)… cabin was located in the village of shaver lake and very well situated.
What I loved most Is that the cabin was comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessities to cook nice meals!
The hosts did not miss one special touch!
Would definitely stay again, thank you Reuben for a great place to get away and enjoy the snow!!!

My family and I loved our stay at this cozy little cabin in west village. Great property with a great deck and backyard. Interior is the perfect size for a family or two to get cozy together and have a good time. The property had everything we needed plus more. All the local restaurants are within a 5-10 minute walking distance making it a fun and easy walk with the kids to get food. We will definitely be returning to make more memories!

This place was everything we had hoped it would be. It was well stocked with some things we forgot. Stores are really only 5 minutes away though. We took dreamy walks in the snow and it was just what our hearts needed during a busy Christmas season. The cabin is so cute and comfortable. We loved it.

The cabin is very well maintained and cared for. The owners take a lot of pride in their property and were very friendly and accommodating to our family. The cabin is well-equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. The kids had a lot of fun sledding and hanging out around the fire pit on the property. The location cannot be beaten and the Shaver community is very friendly. We will absolutely be staying in this property again in the future.

Everything described was received. Excellent choices in furnishings and especially Kitchen wares.
Attentive hosts at a quiet cabin retreat. If that’s your thing, you can’t go wrong.

This cabin is what vrbo is all about. The accuracy of the description was amazing. Loved the cabin. However, what makes this cabin above all others is the host Rueben. Rueben is quick to answer all questions and is amazing!
Major kudos for allowing dogs and making it such a dog friendly rental. From pet gates to dog bowls already there, it is amazing. Thank you for opening your cabin to others. We had a great time!!!

Great stay!
Even though our trip started out rough for us, it was great to arrive at such a nice cabin! We enjoyed our family time and the cabin had everything to offer. Our kids LOVED the upstairs and thought it was just the coolest. We enjoyed card games on the deck and walks to town. Just enough boat parking for our boat as well! Thank you Reuben for the great communication (and help) and letting us enjoy your cabin!

Loved our stay
Everything was superb. We can't stay again though because the stairs are too tight for my adult kids to keep going up and down. But, we truly loved our stay. And thsnk you for having us.

Family trip to shaver lake area
We had a great time visiting shaver lake. We were aiming to stay in between Yosemite and Sequoia national park-and this property worked great for us! The town of shaver lake was cute and we enjoyed a day on the lake in between our travels to the parks.

warm, cozy mountain retreat
My wife and I stayed here for five nights, joined by my stepson for two nights and our two dogs for the duration, during an unexpectedly cold spring break. Though we had hoped to spend more time outdoors, including on the large deck, we had a very nice stay keeping warm inside. The cabin is very comfortable and, to our surprise, had solid WiFi and satellite TV. We were even able to stream a movie one night. The gas fireplace kept the cabin nice and toasty in addition to looking like a real log fire. The kitchen worked well for the nights we ate in and there are restaurants within walking distance for the nights we wanted to go out. We hope to return some day to enjoy warmer weather and all the recreational opportunities that Shaver Lake offers.

Great spot
Very quaint and worked great for a last minute ski trip.

Wonderful location, a bit over priced
The cabin is very nice, although it is smaller in person than the pictures make it look. This cabin would be perfect for a family with young children, but not so much for adults. The bedrooms and beds are very little. The back patio/fire pit area and the large front deck is very cool.
I will say I thought it was unfair that I paid a pretty expensive cleaning fee, even though I had to strip all of the beds, clean all of the dishes, take the garbage cans out, put all the dirty laundry alway. I basically cleaned the entire place myself.

Absolutely delightful and enjoyable weekend. Cabin is very clean, comfortable.
Love the place will definitely come back again. The owner is very helpful.

Peaceful Getaway filled with fun
This cabin fit our needs perfectly. It is well stocked in every room, and has been remodeled with the cutest rustic design theme. The owners take pride of their property and it shows. All of our questions were answered almost immediately. All was clean and ready for us upon arriving, no surprises as the owners have been mindful and created a small binder for renters to read and learn about the property, local stores, restaurants and what you may find at these locations. We found this weekend to be so relaxing, even with our three grand babies! Thank you Stob Family for being so gracious and trusting us with your beautiful cabin.

Nice quiet cabin
This is a nice cabin. The owner communicated well on how to check in and out and how to use the amenities. We walked into town. The kitchen and bathroom was stalked with everything that was needed. I am definitely going to come back.

Great Stay!
Great location! The cabin is walking distance to the main town and lake. Everything was well stocked and clean. There was plenty of snow during our stay, and a nice area out back for the kids to play and enjoy the fireplace.

Super cozy and great fit for our family.
We loved this home. It was our first time ever staying at a cabin so we didn’t know what to expect. I had questions and Reuben Stob would answer right away and was very helpful. The location of the home was perfect. We walked to the store and back and was beautiful with all the snow in the neighborhood. It had a nice size yard full of snow where my kids made a snow man and slid down with their sleds. We went to the snow park but if we wanted to we could of stayed at the cabin the whole time there was plenty of snow there. I really recommend this home, it had everything you need to cook inside and outside. We are looking forward to booking this cabin again in the future!!!

The looks are there it’s a cute cabin but I had such a horrible experience here.I’m pregnant, due in two weeks and My husband and i wanted a little get away before having our baby But it was the total opposite Invasion of privacy-The owner as soon as we got to cabin started messaging me and calling me non stop For having a couple more guest Which we later agreed to us paying an extra fee for the extra guest we did have I totally understand,But in that conversation he was yelling at us Not professional at all! And even after that agreement he kept calling us all night to the point I had to turn off my phone because I wasn’t enjoying myself my first night because he kept blowing my phone upSecond this house was inhabitable-Do not rent it out if you want to go in the summer The cabin mentioned is had Air conditioning But my family that stayed in the upstairs room couldn’t sleep and felt nauseous all night, there is a very small window hardly no ventilation to make the upstairs sleep-ableThey felt suffocated and ended up not being able to sleepTo the point that we even ended up leaving a night before (having to loose out on money) because we couldn’t stand the heatOur whole stay we were just outside in the patio because the inside felt like a sauna I have rented other cabins before and this has to be the worst experience ever We felt we were watched the whole time we were there We couldn’t enjoy ourselves

Cozy Cabin
I was a first timer renting a cabin for a family trip and the process and rental exceeded my expectations. Cabin is cute and cozy and was very clean during our stay. Neighborhood is quiet and very close to stores, restaurants, and the lake. The owner was flexible and had great communication. I definitely recommend. I look forward to renting this cabin again for our family trips in the future.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy
The looks are there it’s a cute cabin but
I had such a horrible experience here.
I’m pregnant, due in two weeks and My husband and i wanted a little get away before having our baby But it was the total opposite
Invasion of privacy-
The owner as soon as we got to cabin started messaging me and calling me non stop
For having a couple more guest
Which we later agreed to us paying an extra fee for the extra guest we did have I totally understand,
But in that conversation he was yelling at us
Not professional at all!
And even after that agreement he kept calling us all night to the point I had to turn off my phone because I wasn’t enjoying myself my first night because he kept blowing my phone up
Second this house was inhabitable-
Do not rent it out if you want to go in the summer
The cabin mentioned is had Air conditioning
But my family that stayed in the upstairs room couldn’t sleep and felt nauseous all night,
there is a very small window hardly no ventilation to make the upstairs sleep-able
They felt suffocated and ended up not being able to sleep
To the point that we even ended up leaving a night before (having to loose out on money) because we couldn’t stand the heat
Our whole stay we were just outside in the patio because the inside felt like a sauna
I have rented other cabins before and this has to be the worst experience ever
We felt we were watched the whole time we were there
We couldn’t enjoy ourselves

We were pleasantly surprised about the proximity to town, the lake and hiking trails. The decor was charming. We spent much of our time enjoying the deck. We appreciated the quiet neighborhood. Pros: soft towels, plenty of paper goods, Cute dishes and glassware.Cons: The cleaner left a bit of trash outside around the cabin. Some random potato chips were found on the kitchen floor and trash can area. The sheets were clean but it looked like the bedspread in the downstairs bedroom had been slept upon. [wrinkles on the comforter and pillow shams, not like it was fresh out of the washer]. Suggestion:Include wash cloths for the bathroom and a pair of salad tongs for the kitchen.

Nice location and property. Quiet. The owner was flexible with the group size. The loft was a little warm, but we had a good time. I would definitely stay here again.

weekend get-away
From the cozy feeling of being in your own home, to the quite and cool evening walks through the West Village, our stay at this property was very enjoyable. The property being within walking distance to all that Shaver has to offer such as restaurants, grocery shopping, or the local convenient store, all within close proximity to the property. We really enjoyed the backyard firepit in the cool evening, the barstool table and barbeque grill on the front port, as well as just sitting on the spacious front porch and enjoying the cool even weather. The inside was very clean and cozy, the kitchen and bathroom met all our needs, the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable - overall, this was a great experience for our family of four.
