We have 22 rooms, each with its own bathroom. Down comforters on all the beds and all your linens included. Our amazing gourmet kitchen and outdoor barbecue center is fully equipped including excellent knives, high end pots and pans, and just about every kitchen appliance you can think of. We have a beautiful historic saloon/bar room, with a full under bar sink and refrigeration including an ice maker. Our saloon/bar room has a new shuffleboard and dart boards. The back of the building has a full-length covered deck with hot tub, ping pong table, porch swing and outdoor heaters, and off the deck is a horseshoe pit. We also have a 5000 square foot lawn and gazebo area, with a raised platform/stage and separate bar area. We recently added pergola located between the hotel and the lawn with multiple entry points, perfect for a wedding ceremony. My family and I were wowed by the sheer size of the property.
The rooms were well accommodated, bathrooms clean and stocked with fresh linens and soaps.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook big meals. We primarily used the gas propane grill for its ease of use. There is a very large charcoal grill if you feel the need to throw on 8 rack of ribs!
The ice machine in the bar came in clutch when we took a trip to the lake near by (less than 10min drive). The parking lot is an easy short walk down to the lake.
We spent most of the time on the bottom floor, cooking and catching up with distant relatives. Remember to post a sign outside the doors so strangers do not walk in. =)
The grassy yard area is where 3 epic rounds of dodge ball went down. That was a highlight for sure. We were able to take some memorable family photos on the deck also!
There is so much I can go on and on about this place that probably has been covered by others. This hotel fit the bill for any large gatherings, reunions & weddings.
The only thing that needs improving is the WiFi connection is not that good. They are looking into improving this!
Steve and Angela were great hosts, they were prompt and accommodating.
Overall my family had a wonderful time and cannot wait for another reunion. (35 adults + 15 kids) We will keep the Union Hotel in mind for our future reunions or possibly weddings!

Beautiful, spacious, relaxing, fabulous place to stay. Roomy enough for our group of 30 adults and 20 kids.
Thankful for the early arrival check-in time. Everything was in order. Games in entertainment room are pretty old and missing pieces; television remotes needed batteries, we couldn't get the game room TV to work for a kids movie night but the fire pit made up for it :) The hot tub was not working :(
We had an amazing time and would do it again!

Really awesome place - well taken care of and great for large groups!
The check in process wasn't very clear, but we figured it out by chatting w/ some people at the bar. Rob was a great property manager and very responsive to any issues/questions. Would stay again!

Excellent property for a large family (33) reunion...commercial size/equipped kitchen was superb with EVERYTHING needed to prepare multiple daily meals! Eating area easily seated our entire group and the saloon was provided a special touch of nostalgia, drink coolers, and fun with the shuffleboard table. The on-deck hot tub was perfect for easy access to the house and private. Outside space was great for kids to play. A geat property that met all of our needs for a fun-filled reunion!

We have been coming to The Union Hotel for over 11 years and in those 11 years, we have stayed there at least 20 times! Yes, we come twice in one year! It literally is the best place to stay for large groups. Jay & Charese, the managers, are the BEST and take such good care of everything you need. The hotel is very well kept, very clean and so much fun! The kitchen is stocked full of everything you could possibly need for cooking - just add food & fun! The bedrooms are comfortable, each with their own full bathrooms. The beds are comfy and warm. The bar area is so cool - everything you need is taken care of there. Overall, I give the Union Hotel a 10 out of 10 stars. SO much to do in the area both in the summer & winter! You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here!

We had a family reunion with about thirty folks coming from all over the country. We wanted a place away from the big cities and typical tourist areas to encourage family mingling rather than everyone off in small groups to casinos or big city attractions. La Porte was ideal for us - very remote with a beautiful lake nearby for swimming and lots of trails for hiking. You do have to remember to bring everything you're going to need since its a long haul to the nearest large town. There is a small general store a half block away which has some essentials but plan on bringing everything you're going to need. The hotel itself is absolutely first rate. The kitchen is modern and enormous - two large refrigerators, two dishwashers, plenty of pots, pans and utensils. The dining area will seat everyone. Every room is spotless. There's no air conditioning but there are plenty of fans to go around. There was one gentleman with us who had to use the single room on the first floor designated for folks with disabilities and the staff brought in a folding bed to accommodate his wife. Cherise, who manages the place, is a delightful person who can usually be found at the general store. If you want glitz, glamour, restaurants and crowds this is not for you. If you want a clean, fully functional facility in an out-of-the-way place in the country, this is it.

Hello all,
I rented this place for our Couch Family Reunion that we have been doing the reunion every 3rd summer for the last 40 years! and this place was GREAT! I had 48 Family members stay for the week of June 26 - 30, 2017! To have a place with 22 bedrooms and 25 bathrooms was so great. The entire family loved it from the perfect location, amazing kitchen and dinning room, to the old Union Bar! I hope to go back very soon and hope to have some more family time.
The lake is just a few miles away with some very nice beach's and next time I'm bringing a boat! With all the rain and snow this last year the lake is full and perfectly blue water!
The union bar on the first floor of Union Hotel/Retreat Center has a big cooler for drinks and a full ice maker for everything needed!
Great beds throughout from Kings, Queens, Fulls and some twin/full bunk beds!
LOVED IT!! Jimmy

We had a wonderful Family Reunion at the Union Hotel!! The accommodations were better than the pictures reflected. The lake is a short drive from the hotel with a boat ramp, picnic areas and a beach. We will definitely be back!

We had our wedding here in June and we brought up all the food and drinks for the weekend. Like the Buerhings said, this place has everything you need to host an event. They told us they had a fully stocked kitchen, but many times that means old pans, dull knives, and a whatever else they find at garage sales. That is not the case here! Of all the serving platters, serving spoons, coffee urns, ice chests we brought up, we only used our chaffing dishes and wedding decorations. All our guests were blown away with the hotel. Everyone doubted the location as they made the drive up, but once they got there, they were amazed and kept asking how we found this place. I do wish we stayed for 3 nights, so we could spend a day exploring and fishing. We have a few guest already making plans to come up again. Things to know - Kitchen really is fully stocked with matching plates, cups, knives, serving platters/bowls, kitchen tools, misc spices- Bar has 2 or 3 fridge/coolers, drinking glasses, and shot glasses- 2nd floor rooms have bathtub/shower while 3rd floor rooms have standing showers - No inside dishes and cups can go outside, so bring your own if you plan to eat outside- Use the Queen room for the guest of honor - Put door signs on the rooms to help your guests find their rooms- They have irons, ironing boards, and a steamer. - Consider placing the night owls in the even numbered rooms that face the deck- Prep as much of the food you can before you arrive
