Good location. It was a lovely historical building. Rooms were quite spacious. There was a nice sitting/lounge area.
There was a lot of roadwork going on outside the building but with the windows closed it was still fairly quiet. No tea or coffee making facilities in room and no fridge.

Classic hotel in the heart of the city. Excellent location.
Rooms are a tad dated but it’s an experience.

The location was great
The facilites were very dated and are in an urgent need of an update

Very characterful hotel and a comfortable place to relax in as well as being centrally located. The staff were really helpful.
The only obvious one was poor wifi but that didn’t really matter.

it’s location is good, amazing view from the room over the park, river and the old town. staff was friendly and if you’re looking for old fashion places this is the spot
it literally stayed in 1920, rooms and hotel are desperately needed of a refreshening. bathroom was small ad slightly uncomfortable and the furniture had its best days

The Astoria is a fine Art Nouveau Hotel with many original features and furnishings. Yes, it is a little ‘tired’ and in need of some new carpeting, improved wifi, new tv’s (a fine dressers in our bedroom had an old, huge tv on it - ugh!) and a repaint but. …. It’s a hotel with character, splendid rooms, both the bedrooms and the public lounge and dining hall, with delightful details (note the aesthetically pleasing, well-designed curtain pegs and the handles on the dressers. For all this and much more I’m singing it’s praises and hope someone will put some investment into this fine hotel - without destroying its fine features.

beautiful vintage hotel-really like stepping back to the 1920s! we had the romantic room, 209, and it was absolutely beautiful. yes, the property is dated and needs some updates to carpet, but part of the appeal is the old-fashioned beauty. The staff also had a bottle of champagne in the room for us for our anniversary-so thoughtful!
The carpet is old but not a big deal. The room however had beautiful hardwood floors.

Charming hotel in the heart of Coimbra

A classic beautiful old hotel that we would stay in over and over again. Funky old school lobby and lounge area with an excellent, attentive staff. The included breakfast in a classic room was fantastic. Our room was terrific with a balcony overlooking the river. All the eating and drinking places were right behind us and up the hill toward the university. Terrific place to stay--look no further.
Zero.

The river view was fantastic.
The staff were excellent.
The room felt cold not in temperature but theres no carpet so bare floorboards , a few rugs would have made it look more inviting. Only one pillow each on the bed and the two chairs provided we're dining room chairs so not particularly comfortable . Two lounge chairs with cushions would fit perfectly because it was a large room with hardly anything in it .
The shower was from a mixer tap and the head diddnt fit in its bracket .
No tea and coffee facilities and no bar downstairs .
All in all the hotel is looking very tired especially the carpet on the stairs and corridors .
9.0
The staff, the style, the cleanliness, the breakfast. The room was very nice and the beds were comfortable.
Wifi was not very good.

Excellent location. Close to dining, shopping, tourist sites. The hotel has and old school feel to it. I liked that.
Single rooms are a bit small. No big deal for me, but other travelers might feel it a bit on the small side.

The Belle Epoque era Astoria Hotel is perfectly located for drivers, with a pay parking garage a 3-minute walk from the hotel. The location is just off the Santa Cruz Bridge and Rua Ferreira Borges, the main shopping street, with most of the tourist sights and plenty of restaurants a short walk away.
The hotel has a certain historic nostalgia but is bad need of an update. We splurged and got the Romantic package which included a room upgrade if available, a bottle of sparkling wine and pastry for 109€ a night. Our upgraded room may have been the best room in the hotel, located on the top floor in the circular end of the hotel with views of the university hilltop and the river below. The spacious high-ceilinged room has deco furniture, small by today’s standards, with small (only a double) yet comfortable bed. There is good storage space for hanging and folding clothes but no safe. The air-conditioner wasn’t working but a fan in the room made the temperature comfortable for sleeping. Outside the large windows is a narrow balcony from which you can survey the wide view over the city. The bathroom, with an old fashioned tub, sink toilet and bidet is cramped with little counter space. The toilet is way too close to the tub for long legged folks and the water pressure is low with temperamental hot water, generally running hotter than I would like. They say they don’t have Wi-Fi in the rooms, only in the lobby, but we were able to get an intermittent connection in our room.
The breakfast buffet is served in a grand, high-ceilinged dining room with pink faux marble columns. While there is a good selection of different kinds of offerings there isn’t much choice of each type of item. For example, they have 2 kinds of cheese and only scrambled eggs. The hot items included scrambled eggs, ham and beans. Cold items included bread, rolls, croissants and pastry, jam, cereal and nuts, yogurt, only whole fruit, cheese and cold cuts and juice. Coffee, hot water and hot milk are in
Cramped bathroom, poor Wi-Fi Connection, small bed

There is no Wifi in the rooms! Carpets are very old and are partially damaged. Only the view and location is very good.

location
How long have you got ? This hotel is not a 3 star hotel....there is a fine line between being Antique/shabby chique and being delapidated...this hotel crosses the line on several fronts.

The hotel is set in a beautiful art nouveau building in a great location overlooking the Mondego River (we had a charming view from the room - see pic). Dining room, reception, bedrooms and common areas are all in delightful art nouveau style (there is even a fine vintage lift). The room and bathroom were very bright and spacious. Breakfast was good and varied.
The wi-fi was not excellent on our floor.

Old fashioned style, close to downtown, nice room, good breakfast.
Wifi not working, the bed was really small.
