We Came to the Black Hills for a wedding and stayed for a week. Property was great, there were 10 of us and had plenty of room. The acreage made it nice for the kids and dogs to run and play kids really like the horseshoe pit! Location was great a lot to do in a 20 mile radius

Lovely property with everything we needed and more. Beautiful views, peaceful, close to all main attractions and plenty of space for our group of 6 people.

This home was wonderful. Bigger than pictures. Huge closets downstairs for storage. Not much drawer space but shelves in closets. Lots of cookware , servingware, dining items: 4 crockpots, 4 types of coffee makers, multiple mixing bowls. There is an electric griddle but the temperature dial is messed up so not accurate. We had to put the coffee makers and a crockpot in a bedroom to make room for food in kitchen. Beware of outdated items in refridgerator and spice cupboard. Guests leave a lot of stuff. Plenty of paper goods. No sheets on bottom bunks but we had blankets that the guys used. There was probably some in the house but our blankets worked. Bunkhouse was comfortable. Saw deer and the lightning show was awesome(storm was 15 miles away). Sue's artwork around the house is amazing. Tom responsive to our questio s. Highly recommend this VRBO.

The house is exactly as it’s described. Anyone who stays in the small room with queen bed better be a early riser or heavy sleeper. The room has a sky light that doesn’t have a darkening blind, so 5:30am it’s daylight in there. But bed was comfy and I was fully rested.

House was clean and check in process was simple. House is right in heart of Black Hills with plenty of privacy and luxuries but also convenient to attractions, restaurants, and shopping.

This place is perfect, owners are awesome Tom and Sue are great hosts, can not say enough good things about the location, property and how great the cabin was!

Great place, secluded but close to main road bordering forest land to explore and hike with the kids and a great woodburning fireplace

The house is about a mile off the highway, no other houses nearby, very peaceful and quiet, only ten minutes to Jewel Cave to the west and Custer to the east. Be sure to explore Custer State Park, especially the Wildlife Loop Road - we saw many bison, a pronghorn grazing next to the road, wild burros, and a coyote hunting prairie dogs.

This is our 2nd stay at this home & once again we thoroughly enjoyed our time. We love the secluded feeling of the property and the abundant wildlife. Added bonus of this location is they allow our dog to stay as well!

Our family spent 2 weeks at this house in the beautiful black hills. It was perfect with everything we needed for a wonderful family vacation. We enjoyed cooking on the grill, sitting around the fire pit roasting marshmallows and looking at the stars. The locations great if you want a place away from town but still close to all the attractions. Some of our favorites: Custer state park, crazy horse, tatanka, Pactola lake and swimming at Sylvan lake. Booking was easy and the host provided everything needed prior to our arrival making it a very nice experience and stay. I would definitely recommend staying here if you plan on vacationing in South Dakota.

This was a 5 star stay in all aspects. Perfectly located
To see all the area has to offer! I’m sure at one point this was the owner’s primary home. Cannot say enough about how comfortable my family felt. 8 of the members were from another country and were awe struck by the amenities this place had to offer. Great place to get away and relax.

The place was so comfortable and relaxing! The pictures don’t do the place justice; it is beautiful and well taken care of. The wildlife (doe, fawn and chipmunk) was so fun to watch. I would definitely recommend Tom & Sue Thelen‘s place!

The property was just as described - secluded, clean, and beautiful! The location worked perfect for us as a springboard to all the wonderful things to see and do in the Black Hills area. In addition, we enjoyed seeing deer, turkeys, and songbirds from the house everyday. And hearing coyotes calling at night. When we come back to the area - we will definitely stay here again!

We throughly enjoyed our stay! It was quite and relaxing as the property backs up to the national forest.
This vacation home offers everything you need for your stay. We enjoyed the access to off-roading, Jewel Cave, Mt Rushmore, and much more.
Was a rememberable relaxing stay!

This was an exceptional place for the 10 members of our family to gather for 10 days. It was roomy, clean, and artistically-furnished. We loved the wilderness-like location which was still close to all the major attractions in the Black Hills. Tom and Sue responded almost immediately to any questions we had. We couldn't ask for a better place to celebrate our 50th with our family!

This is our second time staying here and it will be the only place we come back to in the area. We like to go to different places/areas but this property is so amazing there is no need to try others.Tom and Sue really do everything to ensure your stay is as comfortable as it could be. The area is peaceful and the home is welcoming. You feel like you are at a friends house. Thank you

We’re repeat visitors because of the beautiful location, outdoor amenities, and great value. The family takes immaculate care of the property and keeps it stocked with everything you need!

Seven guys stayed at the house for a week while turkey hunting. The house adjoined the Black Hills National Forest and was only about 10 miles to town. We had no issues with any of the appliances. There were plenty of beds if you use the bunkhouse. The Internet connectivity was a lot slower (about 15mbps) than what I am used to, but it worked fine. I highly recommend it.

We have been doing the Mickelson trek for 9 years and always stayed in motels. This year we changed it up. Our stay was excellent. Enjoyed being able to cook our meals at the house, relax and play with the kids in the yard, and a quiet restful night before the next days ride. The bed in the master was very soft.
It was not our favorite. But we were so tired each night it worked. Our grandson (age 23 months) Played in the driveway near the house with his trucks. Our granddaughter enjoyed sitting on the swing and reading stories with me. The men enjoyed the mounts in the cabin and the outdoor areas around the house. Thank you for having the available.

All of us enjoyed our stay, the property is amazing and we quite surprised how clean and well stocked the house was especially the kitchen which we weren’t expected it to be. Thank you for all your great suggestions and detail of the areas. We all wished we could have stayed longer . We will be back , we loved all the excursions we were able to participate all were well worthwhile especially the bear experience Thank you again for making our first rental vacation an overwhelming success

By far the best home we have rented. It was clean and extremely comfortable for 5 adults. If they added a double bed in the loft it could easily sleep 6 adults.
Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking & pantry. The only items we had to buy were toiletries. They do offer plenty of toilet paper.
It is so secluded and peaceful yet 15 minutes from Custer. We enjoyed feeding the wildlife with feed they leave on the front deck.
Custer offers a variety of restaurants & tourists shops. They have a wonderful grocery store and Dollar General.
The owners are very thorough and organized about the rental and things to do in the area. We rented ATV"s for a day and took a balloon ride.
The patios had plenty of furniture. They have a gazebo with a propane grill and a fire pit with wood to burn. There is a bunk house that sleeps 4 if needed.
Thank you so much!

Everything about this place is absolutely perfect, from the owners to the setting to a great location.
From the very beginning, Tom and Sue were great to work with and provided a lot of information.
The cabin sits back off the road so you can enjoy the serenity of the Hills a mixture of mature trees and grass meadow. Nice and peaceful.
The house sits a little over a mile from the paved highway and approximately 8 miles from Custer. We loved the ability to leave the property on our UTV and hook up to one of the many forest service trails.
The house itself is very well stocked and setup for comfort and relaxing, we really hated to leave and go back home!
