The breakfast was great and we always felt full. Mostly western style breakfast with a Japanese twist. The rooms were very basic and maybe a little old, but otherwise were perfectly fine. The hosts were friendly and were happy to answer any questions. There is a fridge in the common area you can put some drinks/food in, but in the busy period I imagine it gets quite full. The communal showers are Japanese style. The shuttle system takes a bit to get used to, but there is a stop right out the front of this lodge to get to Happo One, the Bus Terminal or Hakuba 47. Make sure you eat downstairs at the Yakitori restaurant. I would definitely stay here again.
Our room smelt a bit like gas from a heater or something, it took a bit to get used to. There should be instructions on how to use the heater, but otherwise the owner came and showed us. There was not really a social culture in the afternoon/evenings in the common areas.

Amazing, caring, polite and lovely hosts. Delicious breakfasts every morning. Great spa & big ski boot room.
We really had to get used to the pillows :)

The location was excellent, with a warm/cosy atmosphere and everything you need at the end of the day.
The kitchen was well appointed for the needs of our family.
The Japanese style bedroom took a bit of getting used to.

The location which is right in ecoland is the one highlight I will give.
I am a long time traveler of hakuba. Love hakuba as my home. I was truly disappointed with our stay at Pension EastMountain Hakuba. The main photo on booking.com of the lodge is incorrect and not where we stayed.
The women’s & males shower had one broken leaving ONE to use that “must” be shared. The bath was freezing cold each time you went into the bathroom. I went every hour to check if it was going to be heated as there was a sign saying not to empty the bath so I didn’t. The women’s shower is only luke warm which is hard as the bathroom itself is cold. The bathrooms were constantly dirty.
No room keeping is done at all. It was also said a fire place was in our room on the booking.com app and there wasn’t.
My partner and I felt truly uncomfortable with the Male owner. He wasn’t welcoming at all. I went to make toast with my own bread and spreads and as I sat down to use a knife he took all utensils and moved it to another table. There was no welcome or enjoyment about our stay. It’s a communal area (where people are meant to eat and have a morning coffee) although you couldn’t as he was standing there watching you. The pillows were made out of rice husks and were literally bricks, we requested new ones as it was unbareably uncomfortable.
As our last day came we were digging the car out prior to check out and getting our bags. He came out the front and yelled “are you leaving? Room key!” When the car was covered in snow and our bags were still in the room. It was just a truly unwelcoming and uncomfortable experience, which is a shame as every other accomodation I’ve ever stayed at they have gone above and beyond for their customers. The lady who also runs it is very nice and meant well.
Although unfortunately we won’t be returning.

they went into our room when we weren’t there, very strict, not overly friendly

the owners are absolutely beautiful people, so very helpful and kind. the accommodation is charming and quaint and very well situated. the rooms are a good size and we’re great for my 4 year old and I. the traditional Japanese rooms are beautiful and have a great view of the mountains. there’s a great common room for use of guests on the entry level.

Good for authentic Japanese hospitality and room type. Room was big. Common area was very clean all the time. I messaged the owner via this application and he fetched me at the bus terminal, he also sent me back to the bus terminal after we checked-out. Though it is shared shower room but got it all by myself all the time. There 2 bus stops for the shuttle to ski resort slopes, 1 right in-front of this pension and another one is 3-5 minutes walk away. There were so much restaurants, cafes, and equipment rentals around this pension too.
Amazing Japanese style breakfast (but you won't get it everyday - other days are Western style).

The owners were very friendly, helpful, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. They even gave us a little room upgrade. They were very generous and we were very grateful! It is located right in the middle of the town and everything you will need is easily accessible. It is a modest lodge with basic facilities, but our stay was pretty good. We enjoyed our time in Hakuba. Thank you!
The bath had to be heated manually so you will have to request ahead of time. The shower can be used anytime though, so that is not a problem.

Last minute reservation. The owner and his wife were very nice and they both spoke English which was helpful!
The bed was to firm for my taste. Did not see a "garden view" as the room was called.
