About this house rental
Just two blocks from Main Street, many locals and visitors have coveted this impressive two-story home over the years. Built in the late 1800s, Sussie Staudt lived in the house until 1990. A few years later the home was sold and renovated as a guesthouse. A large front porch with rockers has been restored with gingerbread to bring back the original look. The colors inside have kept with German tradition by declaring each room's personality painting with a different color and tying them together with red and deep blue. Pine floors and fabulous antiques are displayed both upstairs and down.
The living room has a warm, rich red gingham sofa comfortably arranged for TV viewing. These same colors are carried into the master bedroom. A grey tufted King bed is topped with white and red bedding and an assortment of fluffy pillows. The upstairs is a spacious pristine white bedroom full of color and warmth. A queen bed is decked with red, white and blue quilts and spiced with red gingham ruffles and curtains. To tie in with this traditional Fredericksburg look, there's an oversized chair adorned in red gingham to relax or read in.
In the back of the house is a kitchen equipped for light cooking. White tile backdrops and countertops and an array of decorative tiles enrich the pine cabinets.
The home has been lovingly renovated and decorated. Each room is furnished with wonderful antiques and has original pine floors and area rugs. The rooms are bright and cheerful and much thought has been given to guests' needs.
The outdoor space is equally enticing with a pleasant backyard, charcoal grill (charcoal not provided), and firepit (wood not provided). There is also a Level 2 EV charger conveniently located right next to the driveway.
Trek Enchanted Rock, hike, bike, shop till you drop, stroll through the garden or sit on the front porch, rock and just be. Enjoy!
Things to be aware of:
- Infants (children that are not yet mobile) and children aged 6 years or older are the only children allowed that at house.
- One dog under 50 lbs. is allowed at the house but there is an additional nightly fee of $54/night (before tax). It felt like home away from home. Safe & relaxing. Thank you.

My wife and I planned a short stay in Fredericksburg. Our 12-year son was with us. The home was in a great location that offered just a short walk to the main street. The layout worked out perfectly for us with one bedroom downstairs and the second bedroom/loft being upstairs with a dedicated bathroom. The home included everything we needed. The hot tub on the back porch was nice to have. Only feedback is that I'd probably recommend the heat setting to be 100 or 101. It was 104 when we got it and took a while to cool down. Overall, the home was perfect for what we needed.

My friend and I had a great time! The house was perfect for us. We wish to come back soon.
Thank you!

It was a very nice old home. The front porch was delightful to sit on and enjoy with friends. The fire pit in the back was very nice as well. We had all we needed and down town was close enough to walk and enjoy. The beds and pillows made for a great night sleep, so comfortable.

This is a lovely place to stay, within walking distance of everything we wanted. Highly recommend this charming abode.

We enjoyed our stay in Second Home guest house. It was clean, cozy, & comfortable. I loved sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee. And liked being walking distance to Main Street. We will definitely be back!!

This property is everything stated online. Great location, clean, and well appointed. The rental, communication and check out process was one the best ever. We're already planning another trip and stay at the same property.

Nice accomodations, very cozy. I did find myself to be cold downstairs while it was hot upstairs, however, and one door (between living room & bedroom) didn't close. Walkable distance to main street (10-15 minutes), and had several streaming services provided - this was great for when it got too cold to stay outside!

So easy to get to all the action on Main Street from a very quiet and safe street. The house was roomy and cozy at the same time. Everything was very clean. The beds/pillows were very comfortable.

We had a great time in the Hill Country. The Guesthouse was perfect and lots to do.

Great location for experiencing Fredericksburg.
Pet friendly but there were spots on rug in bedroom that needed treatment. Bed in downstairs bedroom had spots on sheet likely pet related. Changed the bottom sheet and the mattress pad needs a good washing as it had spots all over it. Otherwise it was nice.

Location was absolutely perfect! The home is charming for grown ups. Short straw gets the upstairs bedroom as the stairs are steep and it can get warm up there. Thank goodness the half bath was up there. Beds are comfy. Hot tub was enjoyable. The backyard seemed unkept but other than that everything was lovely.

We enjoy staying houses that are old, and have history to them.
It brought back memories of our grandparents.

Second home was so cozy and comfortable. We felt like we went back in time to our childhood at our grandmothers home with modern day amenities. Ornate details of the home from those charming years. The front porch was great to tell stories from that time with a great glass of wine.
We will be back soon!
Cheers !

Great little house for a fun weekend stay in Fredericksburg. Fun to be able to walk into town. Very nice touches to make us feel at home. Would highly recommend!

We were very happy with the property. Its a really nice reminder of Fredricksburg's history. The only completly minor issie was that the EV charging outlet was not wired up yet but was mentioned as being available on the listing. But the house itself was beautiful and it was just a couple blocks from downtown and well worth the stay.

My husband, dog and I spent a lovely spring weekend in Fredericksburg. The house is very well located within walking distance to Main Street with it’s many restaurants, wine tasting rooms and shops. The house was great for 2 seniors and our dog. Perfect weather and lots of wildflowers in bloom certainly helped!

House location and amenities are perfect. Loved being able to walk in to town. Garden is a great size and our dogs loved checking it all out (garden safely fenced) while we enjoyed the evening sun. Hot tub wonderful. Cottage is really cozy and homey and was great for the two of us.

The location of this house was fantastic, within walking distance of Main Street. Check in was extremely easy and they communicated everything we needed to know. The kitchen has enough for light cooking and we loved that the house is pet friendly and has a fenced in yard. The hot tub was an added bonus. We enjoyed our time and would definitely return in the future.

We only spent one evening here, but would have loved to have additional time. The house is nice and in very close proximity to the downtown shops and restaurants. Easy to access and speak with manager. Would definitely consider this home again for future trips.

Excellent description of property. Very easy to reach host. Hot tub is a great addition to this special house. Loved the rockers on the front porch and bed is very comfy.

Cutest Little Cottage
Our trip was made more enjoyable by staying at this cute little cottage. It had everything we needed, including in the kitchen; coffee, coffee pot and a Keurig. The king-sized bed in the downstairs bedroom was comfortable including the pillows. The sheets were very soft. The stairs were steep but the upstairs bedroom offered two beds, which were comfortable. The air conditioning worked great during the extreme heat of the over 100 degree days. The only thing I regret is it was too hot to use the hot tub! It was very clean and comfortable.

Hello. Myself and three others spent 4 nights at Second Home recently. The home is positively delightful. Clean, charming, well supplied. Lovely.
Two suggestions:
1. A small discrete sign that clearly identifies which driveway accompanies Second Home. Currently it requires some intense property line identification on the visitor to learn this information. Information in literature is far from clear.
2. Slight and low cost modifications to the driveway entry elevation would be beneficial for the visitor. Many of today's vehicles are low to the ground and drag on the crest of the driveway. A simple fix would make the driveway much more user friendly for visitors who prefer not to park in the street under overhanging trees.
On a more specific note.....upon making the reservation, I spoke at length about the fact I needed room for 4. Knowing that Jeff speaks to many people in a single day's work, I'm sure he would never recall our specific conversation. However, we spoke about the fact that there would be four (4) ladies, senior ladies and the configuration of the home (stairs). We spoke about the home extensively and the half bath upstairs so the senior ladies up stairs would have restroom facilities in their floor.....etc.
Upon check-in, the clerk mentioned that we had two (2) in our group, I openly said....no, there are four (4). After closer inspection of the electronic record, the clerk advised me that we had been charged the three (3) person rate, not the four (4) person rate. Therefore the additional charge of $30 a night would be necessary.
We spoke at length about the snafu. In the end my credit card was charged an additional $101. A slight deduction made by the clerk forwhich I thanked her.
Yet, I fail to understand the additional charge, as I mentioned to the clerk, even if there had been only three(3) travelers, all three beds would have been used. However, that is that.
I would like to note, we took special care to keep the towel usage to a bare minimum. Trash was removed from the home as we would do in our own homes, dishes done.
We did have a wonderful visit. Enjoyed the front porch very much. Stayed up late, got up early, came home tired....the sign of a successful trip.
Next time, all precautions will be taken to assure there is no surprises upon check-in.
And I could have just as easily agreed with the clerk when she said.....three (3) visitors., but I am too honest for my own good. Sometimes.....honesty doesn't pay. 😊
Bottom line.....precious home. Precious.

I really enjoyed my stay. Very cozy & charming house. I really appreciated that it is dog friendly (small dog).

I was very disappointed . There were stains on the furniture and the worst, very old and small, TV in the world. Every time you shut it off you had to go through the Spectrum process to get back on. There is no grass in the front, just dirt. In the back there are weeds and my little dog came in covered with burrs. One night I cut out 10 burrs so she could sleep. The fenced in back yard was useless to me.There were no amenities like coffee and tea. The coffee was only decaf and the tea was large bags for iced tea. The bedding was very pretty however, you had to cover yourself with a sheet, a blanket and then a quilt to keep warm. Through the night it all got twisted. A simple duvet would be much better. I could only find one roll of toilet paper and the hand wash pump in the bathroom was empty. The refrigerator froze my lettuce and I had to throw it away.
One more thing. The frying pans are dangerous and should be thrown out. The teflon is all scratched and peeling and is poisonous. I bought myself a new frying pan. I could go on and on but that's probably enough for now. I would never stay there again. I am in Primrose now which is immaculate and has everything I need including a new large TV.

Love the house. Everything is decorated for this era but with a flavor of the past. Loved the welcome gift of a bottle of wine. And couldn't get enough of the front poach. Sat and rocked in the rocking chairs morning and night. Only thing disappointing was the backyard. Very uninviting. Grass needed mowing, what there was of it. No maintenance of flower beds or anything living in the back. The backyard has a lot of potential but it needs a LOT of care! Give the house a chance but don't expect to spend much time in the backyard.
