The cottage was infested with spiders, in fact, so much so a large spider crawled out of my bed in the morning, in the shower, they were everywhere. The shower was filthy, towels had holes in them with stains, The pillow cases were urinated on by something. Most disgusting!

House was just fine and view was great. However, despite promises, no one ever came to fix the internet or TV service even though we were had the place for two weeks.

Great view and great deck. Furnishings need to be updated. Sofa and chairs not comfortable, sagging with age; bath towels frayed and old; kitchen needs to be sorted out; none of this would be difficult to do and would make the cottage much comfortable.

Beautiful location
Only issue was water but resolved that

No rope swing, the ride goes out mid day so you can’t swim. The stove and grill didn’t work so we couldn’t cook our food. No wifi.

Peace and quite.
We had a great time watching all the wildlife and the tide come in and out right from the deck. The clam digger were fun to watch too.
The cabin is amazing with all the with all the decor. We had everything we needed to cook with and the beds are great! We asked to stay another day and YES we did. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home!

The property is in a nice location but it is in need an update. The cabin had a musty smell. You had to be careful with the water use or it would start blowing air out of the faucets. There is too much clutter in the cabinets and it was difficult to find anything. We were only left a few towels, a washcloth and only one hand towel not nearly enough for 2 of us for a one week stay. We had to find a laundromat that was at least 30 minutes away. We were responsible for taking the trash to a convience center, which was fine but there was a bag of recycles that was left behind. We had to take that also because we didn't want to be charged a fee.

Overall a nice place to stay. Quiet, secluded, nice water view. Cabin was a good size for the two of us, comfortable and adequately furnished/supplied with necessary appliances, dishes, etc. One problem, however: internet access was slow at best, and at times was not usable. Streaming performance then became impossible. When I contacted the manager by email, she replied that I should restart the router. I had no idea where that was, but the WI-FI connection was always strong.

This was an older but nice cabin that had a large stone fireplace for colder evenings, and also had electric heat that could be used. There was a wonderful view out to the larger cove from the living room and the deck. There was plenty of cookware for anything you might want to cook and nice space for four to to eat and/or relax on the large deck. We were somewhat surprised by the flight of stairs down to the cabin from the parking area, which would not be a problem for most, but did offer a challenge for a person with mobility issues. Otherwise, we had a great time and enjoyed our visit. The location is central with easy access to Stonington, Burnt Cove, Haystack or leaving the island.

Cute cottage on the coast!
This little cottage was perfect for our family of three. My 6 year old declared the cottage to be “very nice!” She LOVED the loft bedroom. It has everything we needed for a comfy three night stay. It was a solid well built cottage. The views were gorgeous, we saw the sunrise and set from the cottage. Our kid had a great time playing on the beach at low tide…it’s not a sandy beach…it’s rocky with mud flats, which was great fun for all of us, we even got to watch clam diggers at work!
I’m not sure what the negative reviews were all about. We didn’t notice any musty smells and the internet worked just fine. The hot water in the shower did get pretty hot after a few minutes, but once you know about it, it’s easy enough to deal
With. We didn’t find there to be too much personal items on the house. But again this is actually someone’s family camp that they are renting out. If you want an impersonal, plain cottage, I’m
Sure you can find one that is being used only as a rental. But I’d you want charm and history, this is your place!

Amazing Location and Very Restful
A lovely little place. As others have noted: the internet service is sporadic, and the cabin could use a number of renovations. But neither of those factors were a problem for us. The location is remarkable, and having done an exhaustive search of the area, the value is very good. If you want a pristine, brand new accommodation, best to find another option. If you want a lived-in, "grandpa's old cottage" experience on a nearly private tidal cove, this is a good option.
Also, the supplies are excellent: dishes, tools, etc.
One note: Google maps may take you to an incorrect address on the west side of the island. There are two Harbor Drives. Fortunately, our host Nicole was available for a call and helped us to find the right place.
Other factors some haven't mentioned: although it is secluded, there is still some light traffic noise from the road during "rush hours." Those looking for absolute seclusion and silence should know this. For most, it won't be an issue, it is very minor, and true silence can be found most of the day and all evening.
The fireplace is a nice amenity, but I think it was having trouble drawing (yes, the damper was fully open), so it was a bit more of a hassle than a joy.
Lastly, the water supply lines had a lot of air in them, so there were often sputtery, clunky pipe moments. Not sure what that was about.
But, again, it was lovely. It worked for us. It has character, and truly, the location and privacy are hard to beat, especially for the money.

A bit disappointing
The wooded property location tucked away on an ocean inlet was perfect. So enjoyable to watch the tide, and cormorants. Our disappointing experience was with the cabin itself. Our 3 issues were with the lack of internet; the bathroom shower; and overall condition of the cabin. I'll explain. The VRBO website advertises internet as an amenity. However, it's not until we received the lease agreement that we were told service wasn't reliable and we may have to go to a local library. As we were working remotely and anticipated working from the lovely deck overlooking the water, having to work from the library, which we actually had to do everyday, was disappointing and frustrating. Internet service at the cabin was poor at best. Cell service was ok most of the time, but not sufficient to use as a hot spot for work purposes. We're used the libraries in the Deer Isle village, and at Blue Hill. The bathroom: Warning: the shower water goes from comfortable to scalding hot without notice within a few minutes of being in the shower. This happened every time we used the shower. Finally, the overall condition of the cabin is tired and worn. It has its charm simply due to the fact it's a cabin on the water. But there is a permanent strong musty order that was not relieved by leaving windows and doors open to air out out. We burned scented candles to help mask it. The furniture is old and threadbare and contributes to the house outdoor. This one bedroom with loft cabin had more owner personal affects than I expected to see in a rental. The only thing missing was a hair dryer.
I've never written a review like this before. I usually keep my opinions to myself. But with this rental I feel strongly compelled to identify a few of the the issues which should be addressed before this property is rented again.

Beautiful Setting/Untidy Camp Needs Refreshing
This is a wonderful location--you can't beat the views. But rustic doesn't have to be cluttered or untidy. Note to Owner: The camp needs work along with some upgrades. The cabinets and drawers have so much in them you can't find what you're looking for. I suggest: Less is More. There was no effort to lock away personal belongings (e.g. closet/drawer items) which makes one feel more like an intruder than welcomed into a neutral space. The camp "seemed" clean, but with so much in it, it's hard to tell how clean. Also, there is no number on the house, so you don't exactly know where you are, but pictures do help. The instructions for getting into the camp were not as stated in the arrival email, so that was challenging too. Lastly, I went to broil something and someone's leftover steak tinfoil was left in the boiler--not pretty.

Beautiful views!
The property was in a very nice location, very private but still close to everything. The views were beautiful and it was great to see the wildlife right from the deck!

Filthy
I don’t think it was cleaned. Empty water bottle in middle of floor upon arrival. Dead (decaying) animal smell coming from under kitchen sink. Pretty much every kitchen surface/dish/utensil had a coating of fine grease. Won’t be back. Canoeing and kayaking were great but dreaded staying in that cabin.

Wonderful Experience All Around
Absolutely wonderful experience renting through Downeast Rentals & Realty. We loved the cottage and setting. Would recommend highly to our friends and family looking for the perfect Maine getaway!
