About this cabin rental
***
Yellowstone has re-opened following historic flooding! WE ARE OPERATING AS NORMAL.
In October 2022, Yellowstone National Park completed emergency road revisions for the northern range, allowing the North and Northeast entrances to re-open after four months following the damage from the major spring flooding event. This means our cabin and Silver Gate are accessible via the park, as in years past. We're excited to welcome guests back to Silver Willows!
Thank you for the outpouring of concern and for your continued support during this challenging time.
***
Get away from the highway! Silver Willows "Sarva" cabin is located on the south side of Soda Butte Creek on four acres, getting you away from the traffic that runs through town. It features many of the comforts of home with a mix of rustic charm, and is a great home base for visitors to Yellowstone and the Beartooth Wilderness.
- Our sister cabin, "Ursa" (the Bear, VRBO #929453), is now available for rent on the property. Ursa is perfect for smaller groups, or you can rent both cabins. A stand of trees separates the cabins on the property, maintaining privacy for our guests.
This cabin is named for Sarva, the moose constellation of the Sami people, and is located on the western, wooded half of a 4 acre property.
This cabin is found in the small town of Silver Gate, Montana, 1 mile outside of Yellowstone National Park’s northeast entrance and 3 miles down the road from Cooke City. The Silver Gate/Cooke City area is popular with wolf watchers (the Lamar Valley is a short drive away!) and park visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger border towns, as well as winter sports enthusiasts who come to take advantage of the recreation opportunities in the Beartooth Mountains.
Silver Willows is situated away from the highway on 4 acres of woodland bordered by Soda Butte Creek, which runs through the property on its way into Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sleeps up to 9 people on two queen sized beds (1 in the master, 1 in the loft) plus a queen sleeper sofa and twin bunk beds, all with memory foam mattresses. There is also a full sized futon. Please note that any guests beyond 6 people will invoke the $30/night (per person) extra persons fee.
Whether you want to enjoy the wonders of Yellowstone, a quiet picnic at the creek or a snowmobile ride in winter, Silver Willows is the perfect getaway.

The Sarva cabin at Silver Willows is amazing. I love the pine interior and cabin layout. It would be great for big groups but that made it even more comfortable with my small group of 3. The cabin is pretty well surrounded by trees but there are still great views in a couple directions. We had a big bull moose and a couple of deer walk through the driveway during our stay. Silver Gate is a friendly place and only a couple minutes from the entrance to Yellowstone. Max called us our first night to check in and make sure we had settled in ok. Check in was easy and the code lock was nice so we could set our own code and not have to keep track of numbers or keys. The listing clearly said that the grill was charcoal, but somehow that didn’t sink in until we arrived to the property. Honestly I’ve never used a charcoal grill in my life but learned quickly on YouTube and had it figured out after the first night! I noticed that all the cabins in the area also had the same charcoal grill, peculiar but perhaps a local rule or bear country etiquette? The cabin was very clean and nicely laid out so kudos to the housekeepers as well. I recommend this property for your summer tours of Yellowstone!

We absolutely loved the Sarva cabin in Silver Willows at Silver Gate! The cabin had everything we needed and was a perfect fit for our family. The communication with the property owner was prompt and great! We even had wildlife on property to watch from the large window at the breakfast table - a momma moose with her baby and a bison! And location, location, location, just a mile from the NE Yellowstone Gate! We would definitely stay here again!

We came to Yellowstone for peace and quiet as well as an outdoor adventure. We found it all with this cabin, warm, cozy, quiet and well equipped!
Saw some moose nearby the cabin and access to a nice hiking trail (snowshoe or cross country ski if more snow) right from the cabin. We’ve stayed before and couldn’t be more pleased!

We loved this home...great front porch, beautiful interior, and everything you could possibly need while staying in this VRBO. Morning coffee and happy hours on the porch each day. Just minutes away to the NE Entrance of Yellowstone Park and to Cooke City. Quiet, relaxing, the perfect, secluded location. Max responded to any questions I had and was so helpful. Can't wait to go back!

Great rental. Clear directions for how to get there and what to do. I also loved that they provided bear spray just in case. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because it’s not nearly as secluded as the description leads you to believe, which was important to me. Otherwise everything was amazing!

This is a place you will want to own. The attention to detail was fantastic. I asked the members of our group how they would rate the stay and all but the 9 year old gave it 5 stars. The 9 yr. old would see a buffalo walk on water and rate it a 4.9 because she figured the buffalo could not swim.

Very cozy and clean cabin. We are from alaska and felt right at home in the cabin with the rustic-outdoorsy decor. It was on a beautiful creek. The owners responded very quickly when we didn’t follow directions about how to get in. Would 100% recommend staying here.

Lots of room to hang out with family and disconnect from social media. Quick ride to Lamar Valley where we saw wolves, grizzlies and black bear. The trip into YS is quick with minimal traffic. The towns of Silvergate and Cooke City are pretty cool spots to hit “real” general stores and talk with locals.

Great view, clean, well stocked - just the location we were looking for to be able to get to Yellowstone National Park with a short drive. Host called to make sure we were settled in and mattresses were super comfortable - both rare to most VRBOs. Would stay again!

The cabin is nicely located in a quiet area (important to us) but close to park. Very well supplied and roomy, nice views and close to park entrance. We loved our time and where very comfortable. We got snow, almost 2 feet and I’m glad we had 4 wheel drive and winter tires. Our driveway was plowed by the second day of snowing and worked out well.
Communication with owners was excellent.
Highly recommended.

We booked this property for a stay in mid-October just before the epic flood that closed the road from Tower Junction to Silver Gate. We picked this location because of its proximity to the Lamar valley, and decided to stick with our plan, knowing that the road had to be reopened before the winter snows forced the closure of the Chief Joseph Highway. Max Waugh, the owner, kept us abreast of road repairs and offered very flexible cancellation terms.
Fortunately, the road opened the day before our scheduled arrival and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sarva cabin. We had great wildlife viewing in Yellowstone and the weather was beautiful. So it was a win-win-win!
The cabin is set in the woods with a view of Soda Butte Creek, and has every amenity you could wish for. It feels new, with very comfortable beds, linens and furniture. Max’s beautiful wildlife photos decorating the walls are a very nice touch. The sleeping space on the wrap around balcony is beautiful and, although it doesn’t afford privacy, there’s a three-panel screen that helps.

Sarva cabin provided a comfortable, cozy stay in Silver Gate. The location is in the heart of the town yet secluded and private.
The kitchen is well-stocked, beds comfortable and bathrooms very nice and clean.
We will be back!

We had a wonderful stay in your home! It was very peaceful and quiet. My boys fished in the river every spare minute they had. They caught lots of cutthroat right out the back. We hiked into Kersey Lake on Saturday. It was an easy enjoyable hike. Cooke city was a couple miles away and we enjoyed eating dinner at the Beartooth Cafe. The house was perfect for our family of 8, and extremely clean. We had everything we needed as far as linens, kitchen supplies, movies, and games. There was even camp chairs to sit by the river, and cornhole in the closet! Thank you for sharing your home! We would love to come back

Amazing place!
We absolutely loved staying at Sarva cabin! The location was great - easy drive into Yellowstone but also over the Beartooth Pass (the part that was open). It's a quick walk into town, though everything was closed for the fall. Gorgeous property on the river - I drank my coffee each morning sitting at the dining table enjoying the view, and my S.O. enjoyed walking along the creek each morning looking for signs of wildlife (we saw the town bison near the church down the road but never on the property - darn!). The property felt very private - we could see parts of the sister cabin through the trees and saw a car parked there but never saw/heard the occupants. Great communication with host - appreciated the welcome phone call to make sure we were settled (we hadn't had time to read the very informative welcome binder and the Stanford-Washington football game was about to start so we appreciated Max helping us get the YouTube TV up and running, even if he is a Huskies fan ;) ). Cabin is beautiful inside with lots of warm pine, tasteful furniture, and Max's photographs. The fireplace is linked to the thermostat so we had all the coziness of a fire but none of the work involved in keeping a real wood stove going. I didn't pay enough attention to the photos to realize that the loft wraps around the living space. It was quite grand! The kitchen was well-equipped with all the supplies we needed (including sharp knives - a must!). So handy to have laundry (laundry soap provided). Primary en-suite bedroom was on the 2nd floor off the loft and was huge! Highly recommend this beautiful cabin. We hope to stay here again some day.
P.S. Recommend buying a frozen homemade elk lasagna at Mountain Mama Bakery in West Yellowstone - effortless comfort food and so delicious. Also rented a scope from Explore Rentals in Bozeman that was key to seeing the wolves in the park!

Best fall trip to Yellowstone we’ve ever had
This is by far one of the nicest VRBO’s we’ve ever stayed in. On our way there we saw a sow black bear and two cubs, a grizzly flipping rocks over to lick off grubs, and a bison standing in the driveway. There was a cow moose and her yearling calf standing down at the creek. A fox ran through the next day. My daughters caught (and released) 4 cutthroats in the creek. Everything seemed brand new and very clean. We would love to come back. Thank you!

Beautiful, clean cabin in a great location
We loved staying at Max and Jenn's cabin at Silver Gate, just outside the northeast entrance of Yellowstone, and close to Lamar Valley. We visited in October, and when we booked, we anticipated temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Turns out, Yellowstone got an early snow (days of snow, actually) and I can't imagine a better place to be snowed in. The cabin is beautiful, with Max's stunning photography on the walls. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen has everything you could imagine, including a salad spinner. (Restaurants in our area were already closed for winter so we cooked dinner the four nights we stayed here.) Yellowstone's north and northeast entrances closed on and off while we were staying here because of the snow, so Max and Jenn told us about a trail where we could hike from the cabin into the park, and we did, and that was nothing short of magical in the falling snow. Communication with the owners was excellent, and check in and check out were easy. We cannot wait to return to Yellowstone and to this beautiful cabin. One thing I will note, as others have said: one bedroom is completely private with an ensuite, while the other beds are located in a loft, and have to go downstairs for their bathroom. This was not a problem for us but I could see where it might not be the best set up for others, depending on your party.

If you want to stay just outside Yellowstone and avoid the crowds this is a fantastic spot. It was fully equipped and very comfortable. I look forward to coming back.

Great base for wildlife watching!
We certainly enjoyed our stay here and will do so again. The cabin is a great base location for watching wolves and other wildlife in the Lamar Valley area, or a drive up the Beartooth Highway. The Kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and was very clean.....a full five star experience all around for us! Thank you.

Fantastic Yellowstone NP location
Our party of 5 adults greatly enjoyed our stay! The location is just minutes from Yellowstone NP northeast enterance with no lines during our late September stay. This is a great location if you plan to spend time in the Lamar Valley for wolf and bear sightings. The kitchen is very well supplied with everything needed to fix your own meals. Note that it is advertised as a 2 bedroom. It is actually 1 bedroom with a loft area with multiple beds. We made it work with the privacy screens provided but those using the loft need to go downstairs for the second bathroom. None of that mattered since the Bison and MOOSE right outside the kitchen window made our stay memorable and fantastic! Highly recommend this location for visiting the NE side of the park.

Beautiful Cabin
The cabin is absolutely beautiful. Clean and well cared for. It is well stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay! So close to the Yellowstone entrance and Lamar Valley. The owners were wonderful and let us rebook for the next year when we had to cancel due to COVID. Absolutely no complaints of the property at all! Just be aware that is is very close to neighbors, so it wasn’t quite as secluded as I thought it might be. There happened to be a wedding at the next property over when we were there, which was unlucky for us, but what a beautiful place to get married! Love Silver Gate-Cooke City, and would definitely stay here again!

Amazing cabin!
This is THE place! We stayed here for an entire week and it was the vacation my kids won’t stop talking about. The cabin was well laid out and spotless. Pictures don’t do it justice…it is such a nice place! The kitchen was well stocked…with everything you could possibly need…it even had an instapot. There was plenty of utensils and dishes for our family of 6. Laundry was a cinch…soap and fabric softener was provided. Our boys loved the loft and had lots of room to spread out. The beds were awesome. The upgraded WiFi was a lifesaver! My husband was able to take care of work details without a hitch. We played lots of board games and watched movies I haven’t seen since I was a child. But honestly, the location was the highlight. It is SO unbelievably beautiful up there! Our kids played in the creek every day. We saw tons of wildlife. The drive to the hotspots of Yellowstone was long…due to road closures in the park. But we learned to love the drive through the beautiful landscape we got to travel every day. There are lots of hiking trails close…and the town is small and perfectly rustic. We loved the ice cream shop down the street. Communication with the owners was quick and seamless. I would recommend this place to anyone. We can’t wait to come back!

4 Nights family Yellowstone trip
Awesome location, great cabin! Beautiful drive from Billings on Beartooth Hwy. less than a mile from Yellowstone entrance and short drive to Lamar Valley. Cabin was perfect for our family of 4. Woke up two mornings with George the town bison grazing in the front yard. Creek right by the cabin was beautiful! Awesome front sitting porch. Spectacular trip! Cabin was well stocked, clean and exceeded our expectations!

20th Wedding Anniversary vacation
This was the perfect way to celebrate! We had all of our adult children and they partners down to our youngest child. Everyone (all 9!) was comfortable with plenty of room to spread out. The canon was clean and cozy and well stocked. I ended up getting sick during our stay that required a trip to West Yellowstone to see a doctor and while the rest of my family continued with their adventures I was content to rest nestled by the Soda Butte watching the deer. In our last night the power went out in Silver Gate … we had backup generator power within 30 seconds! We could not have have asked for a better place , location, or hosts. Will definitely stay again if it’s available for our next trip in 2025!!!

Family Vacation -Silver Gate
This property has it all! Our family of 4 stayed here, and we could have easily fit a couple more if needed. It is the cleanest VRBO we have ever stayed in, and fully stocked! The beds and linens were almost better than home! It’s right on the stunning Soda Butte Creek, which attracts wildlife in your backyard. We had a doe and Buffalo visit us daily and watched the big horn sheep through our binoculars climb the mountains while we ate dinner! It’s a quick 5 minute drive to the Yellowstone park entrance and 20 minutes to Lamar Valley. Grab groceries before you arrive, because it is slim pickings. There is a cute little store within walking distance that sells ice cream and Max’s photography that you must have! Max and Jen have done a phenomenal job with their properties and are extremely accommodating! We had a couple questions and they answered every time and Max called to check in and walk us through the TV’s and WiFi. Before arriving to Silver Gate, we stayed in Wapiti and wish we would have stayed here the entire trip! We will definitely be back!

Lovely Cabin!
This well-appointed cabin is beautiful and was stocked with just about every item you could possibly want or need. If you’re looking for beautiful surroundings and super easy access to Yellowstone (the North entrance), the Sarva cabin at Silver Willows can’t be beat. The owners were very pleasant and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed and enjoyed our stay.

Amazing!
We absolutely loved staying here. We watched a mother and daughter moose from our window off and on for two days! We were able to take long walks out the back door and enjoyed the sweet towns of Silver Gate and Cooke City. And of course, it's just minutes from Yellowstone where we spent much of our time. The house was very clean and decorated beautifully with comfort and relaxation in mind. The owner checked in on us to see if we had questions and was always very quick to answer our email inquiries. We highly recommend this cabin and are hoping to come back again next year.
