Built before the Civil war, this apartment house is almost 200 years old. As such, it has all of the charm, and quirks, that old houses bring.
Formerly the home of Merton Fitzpatrick, one of the founders of the original Republican Party, the house has seen many generations of occupants and is being restored while still operating today. Six of the 8 apartment units are reserved for guests. The other two house long time tenants who love and understand Old Houses.
We enjoy the eclectic decor (Which Nancy has collected when she goes antiquing) , and cozy "home away from home" feel this old house has. We hope that you will too!

Always a great stay. With some hometown feel.

Clean, lots of room, & nice place to stay when in Hillsdale.

This place has a great location-easy and convenient to move my child out of the dorms. It’s super clean and very charming inside-reminds me of staying at my grandmas! We walked to breakfast and it was lovely to be able to pop by throughout the day while busy with the chore of moving.

Stay was ok. Unit was dated , but clean. Lighting in bedroom was limited.

A perfect choice for parents dropping their kids off at the college!

Did not feel warm and inviting. Bathroom uncomfortable, had to sit sideways on toilet so knees didn’t scrape wall. Property location and upkeep felt sketchy. Close to couple great restaurants

After viewing the VRBO in person we decided not to stay.

We love staying here when we visit our son who goes to Hillsdale College. The location is awesome. Easy walking distance to restaurants, bars, campus, and a great walking trail. They always leave little snacks and keurig coffees.

I wasn’t looking for anything fancy as I was in the area to hunt for a few days….really just a place to rest overnight. The apt is equipped with everything you need. I’m a smaller person, but I could see the bathroom space being a challenge for a large individual. It was nice to be able to cook and do meals on-site. There is a little road noise from M99 but I slept well. Overall I had an enjoyable stay and Nancy responded quickly to my questions.

Awesome location, needs a complete renovation
I'll start with the positives: the location of this rental is perfect for accessing all things in Hillsdale. The concept of a unit with a small kitchen, bedroom, and bath is lovely. We appreciated the water in the fridge and the options of coffee and a few snack bars. But that is where it ends. The building is very, very, very old. Several "updates" have left multiple light switches (one that does not work), a bathroom that is very awkward (shower has a slanted ceiling that anyone over 5'8"will bump the ceiling and a toilet that is 12 inches away from the wall in front of it), a drop ceiling that is water stained and bowing, and a floor that slants distinctly toward the bathroom side of the unit. In addition to structural issues, the amenities fall far short of standard expectations: the bed is horrible (frame wood-blocked to the head board, mattress that is in desperate need of replacement, sheets with a large tear in it), the vents are covered in dust, one set of blinds do not open (totally broken), lightbulbs burned out, a lamp with no where to plug it in, another lamp with the shade resting directly on the lightbulb, threadbare towels... I could go on. My husband also had issue with the street noise and he swears he heard critters in the ceiling, which I cannot confirm, but did not leave a cozy feeling for us. In addition, the usual rate was doubled simply because it was Parent's Weekend at the college. I did not receive any check-in information and had to call the owner after 4 pm to gain access to the unit. I feel bad leaving such a negative review, but any potential renter needs to know what they are signing up for with this rental.

Very Convenient and Cozy
This was very convenient for us since we were needing a place near Hillsdale College. Parking was great, literally right outside the door. It was extremely cold outside, and we were concerned heating would be an issue since it’s an older building. However, the apartment was very cozy! We even turned the fan on in the window unit a/c, and we were very comfortable. We arrived tired and hungry and were pleasantly surprised to find water bottles in the fridge, as well as a few snacks. That was nice. Some rental units offer free sample size shampoos and soaps. This unit offered a pump bottle of hand soap. This was not an issue for us since this was a very quick trip, but just wanted to mention to others so they make sure to pack their own soap, shampoo, etc. There were plenty of nice and clean towels and wash cloths.. Though we didn’t need it, I like how there is also a twin bed in a curtained off alcove in the bedroom., so it easily sleeps 3. We were happy to see a Keurig machine with plenty of complimentary Kcups, as well as sweetener. However, no creamer. Maybe it just needed restocking. Prompt and courteous communication. from Nancy, which was aopreciated. Thanks so much!

Michigan Trip
My 2 sisters and I made a much needed trip to Hillsdale to see family. We were glad to find this little place and that it was available & affordale. It is cute, quaint, and great location. Nancy was very easy to work with and responsive to any request we had. We really didn't have a need for anything that wasn't in the unit. I would stay here again and recommend it!

Enjoyable location and quiet corner
This was a lovely place to stay cozy and enjoy the quiet. The host was great at communicating. My only issue was that it wasn't super clean. The floors all could have used a thorough sweep or vacuuming and mopping. Pretty dirty throughout and I felt like I needed to prewash or rinse a lot of the dishes before I used them. Other than that, everything was great and I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.

Small but cute
Small apartment, super close to Hillsdale College. Legit minutes away. Located downtown Hillsdale, within walking distance of a great local coffee shop. Nancy was quick to respond when I sent a message. Our apartment was cold the first night (but both my daughter & I LOVE the blankets...so double check to make sure you have plenty of them). If it's just the two of us coming again, we would book here again.

Disappointed
First let me say that dealing with Rebekah (owner’s asst) was very nice! I believe their hearts are in the right place. However, we were disappointed with this unit. There are so few choices in Hillsdale and when we saw this listing we thought we had finally found something nice. Unfortunately, while it is super cute, it is definitely in need of a deep clean. The biggest issue though was the toilet. If you are any taller than 5’3” there is no way you can sit on it without your knees hitting the wall in front of you. My husband is only 5’6” and he could not sit on it without his legs completely spread apart. Sorry for the details but there is no other way to describe it. Lots of potential here, but sadly not a doable place for us.

Great Location and Value
Our son is a student at Hillsdale College. In the past, we've either stayed in Coldwater (far) or at the Dow (really nice but pricey) we found this gem and were SO excited. It's right downtown, easily within walking distance to everything. Great price and very nice. It's got a lot of history and is very comfortable. I was worried about traffic, but was not an issue at all. I hate to let people know about this place because I don't want it to fill up :) Will definitely be back! Go Chargers!

Perfect for the Weekend
My boyfriend and I stayed at Nancy’s place this past weekend. We were in Hillsdale visiting some friends. The space was perfect for what we needed it for. The house is old, but it’s clean and charming. The bathroom is small, but has everything you could need for a quick trip. Space heaters & extra blankets were great touches! We didn’t need to contact Nancy while we were there, but her communication before and after our stay was phenomenal. 10/10 host and stay. Would definitely stay here again next time I’m in town.

There is not a lot of options in Hillsdale so this was perfect for Parents Weekend at the college. There is a small kitchen and refrigerator which helps with breakfast. It is not the Ritz but for the price it is clean and quaint and we would say again.

Old Charm
Staying for a family get together and this place brought back memories of living in the old homes of the midwest. It was just what was needed. Clean, warm, historic apartment. Bathroom a little small.
