Whenever I paid for extra nights, I was always given a receipt. At other hostels, in Puebla (where I stayed for 8 months), I was not given a receipt when I paid for extra nights. So, for one hostel I was shocked to discover - quite by accident - that a website (that notes complaints about guests) had been notified (untruthfully) that I had left without paying what I owed. So, although Casa Vee Yuu has a pool of semi-volunteer reception staff, they do the right thing by giving guests a receipt for money paid.
I stayed at this hostel for a lot of my time in Puebla, and I got complacent about the likely safety of sharing a room with five other females. It had seems to me that all the other females that stayed there were honest, and didn’t ever touch any of my belongings. Then, one night - on Thursday, June 15 - I got robbed by a Mexican woman, when I was just outside the door of the room. I had come back to the hostel, at about 7 pm, and the Mexican woman came soon after. I was talking to her for a long time, and she asked me to shut the door (which I had opened to let in some fresh air). So I shut the door, and then I went out of the room to talk to the receptionist for a few minutes (the reception desk being just a few steps away from the door of the female dorm). When I came back into the dorm, the Mexican woman went out, and she didn't come back at all: that is, she had booked in for the night, but she didn't sleep there at all. After she had gone, I discovered that she had stolen all the cash that was in my small daypack (that was on my bed), plus my Visa card, and my mobile phone. I told the young guy who was on reception duty, and he said he would call the owner. However, the owner was at the hostel the following day, and he didn’t talk to me at all. I believe that the hostel would have had a record of the ID card of that Mexican woman, so the police could have been notified. But there are signs (in English and Spanish), in the dorms, to say that the hostel owner takes no responsibility for valuables that are not placed in the lockers. I had no way of getting access to any cash, after the loss of my ATM/Visa card, so I had to go to stay at a hotel for two weeks (that I could pay, fully online, via booking.com, using a different bank's Visa card that is in Australia).

The only good thing was the location.
Laundry service was bad. Not really a service when you need to count your dirty laundry in front of the staff... Very expensive, clothes were still wet when we got it back + an missing item. They knew it but only mentioned it when we asked about it.
Staff was very passive.
Very unstable waterpressure making the bathroom a total wetland.
Squeaking beds that were very loud.
Balcony doors didn't close properly, we had a streetside room. Earplugs were necessary to have a a good sleep.
Not a place we would return to..

Good central location, nice clean rooms and shared kitchen which was useful for making breakfast etc. Free tea and coffee too in the morning which was nice!
It's a nice quiet hostel which was fine for us but if you're looking to socialise, you might find it more difficult.

It has a good location just 2 blocks from the square, the staff at reception very friendly and kind. Typical and a colorful place, perfect to chill after many days traveling but know the historical part of Puebla walking and meet people

A good hostel right near the Zocalo. Friendly staff, good & complementary breakfast (they rotate the meal every three days: Oats, pancakes, and chilaquiles). Nice courtyard to hang out in. This place is definitely worth it for the price. Make sure to go to Cholula as well while you are in Puebla.
The bathrooms/showers could use some help. Not the strongest showers and no hooks.

I liked the kitchen. It was available for guests, from after the breakfast that was provided for guests, until 9 pm at night. Mari, the cleaner, leaves the kitchen very clean, after breakfast. Then it seemed that hostel guests were fair to others, and cleaned the kitchen after use.
This building has a courtyard, on the ground floor, that is open to the sky (so open to all the spaces above: dorms, lounge, breakfast area). The reception desk is located in that open courtyard. There is good and bad about that, depending on your tolerance of loud Latin American music. Most of the staff who work in reception like that loud Latin American music, and (I suppose) it stops them from being bored while they are putting in their hours at the reception desk. But I would like to be able to sometimes come back to the hostel, to relax in that courtyard, away from the noise of traffic and loud music that is normal around the town. Unfortunately, that loud Latin American music is normally being played in the reception area and (because I am staying in the female dorm, that opens into that courtyard), I feel very stressed whenever I come back to the hostel (to relax, or take a nap) because I can’t avoid the noise of that loud music that can be heard all over the hostel (with the courtyard open to the upstairs common areas too). Most of the reception staff will turn down the volume if asked. But one staff member - Mariana - does not like to turn down the volume, if asked, and she gets very unfriendly if asked a second time.

the front desk staff was very nice, especially Ximena! good location
sometimes the music is too loud if your trying to nap mid day.

location is good and it has plenty of relaxing areas. 2 living rooms with sofas.
no hot shower, and barely pressure. beds were as hard as a rock. breakfast was supposed to be served at 8.30 but wasn’t served till around 9, which can be annoying if you have somewhere to go to (such as catching a bus). toilet paper was finished most of the time.
you get a blanket on the bed, but it seems these don’t get washed, so that’s very unhygienic. it would be better if they would put a sheet in between.

helpful staffs, great tour

The location is really good. The rooms are enormous. Free breakfast!
Broken toilet, noises from the neighbours in the bathroom next door, weird check -in. Not a bad place I suppose, but not worth the money for a twin room. I left the place after one night and got another hotel.

I was cold

Super beautiful place with excellent service and great facilities. Most of the staff is mega friendly and is always down to share experiences, stories, advice, or plans. An excellent place to meet people.
During the day, my room was a bit noisy.

It’s right in the center, just two blocks away from the Zócalo. From the rooftop you have a very nice view to the volcanos and the churches around.

I really liked the old building with open hall in the middle. Even though the pictures look much better than the reality it had its charm
1) it is very loud - bad acoustic due to the open (beautuful) hall - > which wouldn't be bad but when the music box is running all day long with the same music every day then it is very(!) annoying (dear manager even though it is not as loud as in your reception hall but upstairs the echo of the music is really bad and doubles!)
2) you only get a wool blanket WITHOUT a duvet - it is very unhygienic (since it won't be washed after every guest) and it scratches
3) the showers have seen better times but I have seen worse
4) I would not recommend doing the free walking tour with the hostel - it was boring! - do it with Estación Mexico
5) what happened to the nice(!) rooftop?? Why isn't there nice benches/ chairs/ tables?
6) breakfast you cannot call breakfast - it is very good but it is so little that after a few minutes you have to find a breakfast place again

Beautiful historical building with friendly staff!! I stayed in an 8 bed shared room and it was very spacious.
Could use privacy curtains for added comfort.

The staff are phenomenal, very nice and helpful. Free (yummy) breakfast and amazing location, everything is in walking distance. Rooms are spacious and the hostel is colorful and nicely decorated.

perfect location and nice staff!
The hostel is not very well cared for and looks a bit like a ruin? If you are hygienically minded, I would not stay here.

good location, staff very friendly, rooftop, free breakfast, room felt clean
bed was a bit uncomfortable.

Such a great hostel to stay if you want to explore Puebla historic centre. Right next to Zocalo, walking distance to bus stop to Cholula. Stuff were so friendly , breakfast delicious and room spacious and clean.

Bathrooms were okay

Great location, nice social space, lovely terrace. The tours and the guides and staff are lovely.
Nice place to meet other travellers to go out for walks and things together.
Free breakfast is goooooood
The kitchen closing at night and not opening until 8am.
They need a few more chairs/tables on the terrace

Located centrally, friendly staff, cosy accommodation
No water for washing and having a shower

Free breakfast was tasty. The staff was very friendly and the common areas are good to hang out and meet people.

The mattress and pillow is comfy, the second floor living room is warm and cosy when doors are left closed, breakfast ok, well center in town but gloomy
The place is nothing like the photos..very dark and gloomy and rundown....the woman dorm bathroom was very dirty and smelled, they cleaned it the next morning to my demand...the shower curtain is dirty and all ripped...it is very cold most of everywhere because all doors are kept open even when I closed the living room one to be warmer a women staff came and opened it even if I told her I was cold...she didn’t care about me...

Nothing
The most awful experience in hospitality I have had. I arrived around midnight from a very delayed bus, and the employee answering the doorbell refused to let me in, because they only work “de las ocho a las ocho”. The description on booking mentions 24 hour reception.
