The place was beautiful with an amazing view. The staff was friendly and the place was clean and neat.
To get there was a bit of a challenge, specially because the taxi left us at the stair entrance and not at the front door which it was a bit of a hike plus our luggage did not help

The property had amazing views, pool and amazing service!
The hike up the hill, however the pool and views made it worth it.

Spectacular view. The nearby beaches are gorgeous. Genuinely friendly staff, I was sorry to go. This is a small, boutique hotel. I had breakfast twice, dinner once, all good. The pool was nice - this is a dipping pool, maybe 9 x 15 feet if that. I often am up late, and the view of the stars in the middle of the night was truly memorable. Beautifully kept grounds with all colors of flowers. Beautiful gliding birds over the property. The calm sound of surf day and night. I liked the walk to and from town, but there is some exercise involved! I only spoke spanish with the staff, if you do not speak spanish you might brush up on some tourist spanish.
There is indeed a barking dog at the top of the stairs that lead down to the beach. I am a dog lover, so I befriended it :) It is not a big dog lol, like 30 pounds, and the owner is friendly.

Breakfast and lunch meals were perfect and very reasonably priced. Staff was fantastic, very kind and helpful. Room and common area were extremely clean and the pool area was just perfect for beating the heat. Bed was super comfy and the AC and fan in the room worked well and weren’t noisy at all. Clean drinking water in the room everyday was a nice bonus.
The walk up is seriously tough. The main road is dry, dusty, uneven and long. The shortcut is 2 flights of unkept steps straight up and quite the hike. It’s doable, but it really makes you plan out your day to avoid the walk and makes walking to the beach a little more complicated. As clean as the rooms are there are nighttime critters. Ants and small centipedes were very common, spiders and a scorpion on one occasion. The bug net does the trick and keeps them out of the bed but the big critters can be a little uncomfortable if you aren’t good with bugs. Staff was extremely helpful in taking care of the big ones. If you’re looking for a completely non-nature, inactive stay this isn’t it.

View was great with yoga space on the rooftop for self practice. Nice rustic rooms which were cleaned thoroughly each day. lovely to have a hammock outside room, with light for night time. hot water in the shower, which was a surprise. kind staff. pool was fab!
Tough to get up to the hotel, either a 70 stone step set of stairs, or a winding dirt path with no lights. Can drive up on a scooter if a proficient rider, but if hadn’t had a bike would have struggled during the heat.

The view, the terrace, the pool, the amazing and helpful staff, the relaxation you can achieve here.
Nothing to dislike about this place.

Beautiful view.
The location given on Booking.com is very misleading, it is not the actual location of the hotel. The hotel is located at the top of a hill, via washed out dirt roads that were extremely difficult to drive up, and no signs whatsoever. Not navigable if it has been raining, or at night. The room was just a bed with a short pony wall behind it, with a shower and toilet. No door or wall, so if you’re using the toilet or shower, anyone in the room can see you. And while showering you have to be careful you don’t get the bed wet! Plus there is no berm or angle to the bathroom floor, so the shower water just ran out into the rest of the room, soaking some bags. Ridiculously overpriced for the shoddy room and super-inconvenient location.

The hotel stands on a little hill just behind San Agustinillo. Many people describe getting there quite challenging, in our experience: any car can get to the hotel, and the walk involves some stairs if taking a small shortcut. It is nothing impossible and you need to consider this is a normal situation for the area. The hotel is very nice and the staff is very welcoming (not everyone speaks English). Amazing views and atmosphere, you can have good lunch breakfast or dinner by paying a small extra.
It is important to also know that the area had a big hurricane some months ago that brought many damages to the hotel, and it was completely re built very well. This has made the road up a little more bumpy and left some small traces the staff is taking care of.
The walk to the hotel is a little dark at night, while during the day it can get quite hot.
However, it is nothing impossible and it is safe.
Many hotels are located in a similar position in town and it is the price to pay for the incredible view.

The views were incredible and the staff really nice.
If you are not in extremely good shape, avoid this hotel. Traveling on my own and with no car, this was a very bad option: first the road to walk to the hotel gave me goosebumps, specially after sunset (I had to use my phone to be able to see) and second, it is not an easy route (stairs, rocks, unpaved road…).
Also the room seemed old: the paint is falling, there is humidity on the walls, the shower works poorly. It seems that it was a very nice hotel some time ago but it needs some updating. Plus, I couldn’t even use the pool (smaller than what it appears in the pictures) because they were using chemical products in it during my stay.

I loved EVERYTHING about Hotel Sal de Mar! There was a language barrier with the staff but they were all very warm, welcoming and accommodating. I ate breakfast on site one morning and it was delicious. The room was comfortable and everything was beautiful from the room to the common outdoor areas.
For me the location wasn't perfect, but if you are planning on spending time at the hotel it would be amazing. I did not spend much time on the property outside of sleeping - I left early in the mornings and came back after dark. The property is a sweaty 10 minute walk uphill - no problem! But after dark it was slightly disconcerting...no light, barking dogs (who sounded more vicious than they were!). If you are primarily using your hotel to sleep I'd recommend something on the main road versus up in the hills.

Loved the view and the atmosphere of the hotel. Bonus that this hotel has A/C which is very unusual for the area. The beds were comfortable and quiet.
Getting to the hotel is a bit difficult because it's at the top of an unpaved room, this is a minor inconvenience if you're looking for adventure. However, if you're not in good physical health walking up might be a challenge.

It requires a short uphill walk to reach the hotel, but it's not too bad/ If you ask the hotel staff, they'll show you a shortcut. Bring a flashlight for walking back to the hotel at night.
The hotel was very small and felt very private and safe. When you wake up you'll get to see the most beautiful sunrise from your balcony accompanied by birdsong.
The staff didn't speak English, but they were very kind, helpful, friendly, and made me feel at home.
The kitchen was open only during the scheduled hours. Wish there was a bar or something to buy drinks and water from whenever needed

Nice Yoga space, great views from the balcony
Dark room with a lot of insects (mosquitos, scorpions, ants). No separate bathroom, just a little wall between toilet and bed. No Wi-Fi in the room and only one chair on the terrace.

What an amazing view and perfect location! Staff is very friendly and the room/cabana is very nice! To get here you need a car or strong legs, because it’s a good walk up! we liked it, so we had a bit of exercise :)!
Staff could be a bit more active with drinks and food, but breakfast was nice and maybe because we didn’t speak very well English!
Will book this place again!

Nicely decorated and spacious family cabin.
The little plunge pool had a great view.
Too far to walk down, or maybe more to walk back up:-)
A big water can in the breakfast area would have been convenient.

The hotel is really beautiful and quite privat with its 7 rooms. The design and view are stunning.
It is not so easy to reach as it is uphill. But there is a little way that brings you down to the village which is easy when you are in shape.
There is not really a reception and we felt a bit unwelcome at the beginning

Great staff. Good food. Lovely view.
We had the place to ourselves, which was really nice
The road up the hill to the hotel was in bad shape due to the rain.
Pool was a little small

We LOVED this boutique hotel so much so that we decided to stay an extra night. The hotel overlooks the ocean, making the sunrise and sunset is amazing. The pool is more like a plunge pool but it's perfect. Only 5-10 mins walk from the beach. It is up a rather steep hill though, so if you're not confident walking up stairs & a steep incline then I would re-consider. That said, the walk is definitely worth it. The staff were also great. So friendly & helpful. And the garden - WOW.

Ana is wonderful. Good vibes, great view. Excellent food
They forgot to leave drinking water , shampoo and conditioner in our room, as they did in other rooms.

The food was good.
I specifically chose this hotel because it said it had AC. But only one of the rooms in our department had it. They should specify that only one room has AC.
You have to shower with cold water, when we asked, they said that's how they shower there. Small kids that are not originally from that place, cannot take cold water to shower. Again they should highlight they don't have HOT WATER.
This place is NOT great for small kids and eldery, if you don't have a car, it's very difficult to climb up the stairs to get to the top of the hill where the hotel is located.
