Stunning location and appearance of hotel. Incredible interior too. Staff really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was amazing!! Comfy bed and great facilities in room.
Shower water pressure poor
7.0
location and the historic look of the building
the grounds
the fire when they put it on
staff all very young - but lovely
I didn’t realise that you don’t stay in the beautiful part , more like an office block that’s attached . totally spoilt the look of the hotel
Their seemed to be lack of staff
breakfast wasn’t the best
No blush wine
very expensive food menu
very small room
Owners need to invest and make this a 5 stat hotel
Do Cheltenham deals
put a television in one of your function rooms - put a buffet on
most people staying were race goers but not every day
do a deal with a local taxi company
make it an event
allow dogs to stay over

It was a beautiful looking property and was close enough to the main city centre. The lady on reception who greeted us on our arrival could not have been more helpful and was super friendly and welcoming.
Unfortunately the room we were given, which was in a different wing of the hotel, appeared to need a good airing. It had a bit of a dank smell and the bathroom exhaust fan did not work which meant the condensation from the shower was impossible to get rid of, no doubt compounding the problem of needing to be aired. It also appeared that the carpet needed cleaning.

Beautifully historic. Located steps away from Stroud canal and a lovely canal walk. The bar was a pleasant place to relax. Staff were efficient, courteous and friendly.
Our bedroom was small in an annex and the restaurant meal disappointed. It was overpriced and the choice was limited.
7.0
The location, the staff and the kitchen.
Despite being woefully understaffed, the staff were absolutely lovely. I would not have been able to keep the pressure from showing through the cracks, and that only happened a couple of times.
Big shout out to Richard, Sophie and Kim for extra loveliness!
Keep your head chef at any cost: the restaurant food was, unexpectedly, fine dining. Perfectly cooked fish and lamb, with wonderful flavour profiles.
I'm answering that the hotel exceeded expectations because of the exceptional kitchen. Thank you to you all!
Nice toiletries, nice bathroom.
Comfy bed.
And despite the frowny face section, I had an amazing time and would return in a heartbeat.
Waiting times were bad in restaurant and bar. This, again, is simply not enough staff rostered.
This also showed through in pretending that not making our beds each day was part of a green initiative . Not washing towels? Green. Asking us to sign away basic housekeeping for a free drink? Understaffed.
Gorgeous looking massive rainforest shower/ feeble water pressure.

The food was very lovely & well presented, but far too expensive for what they have to offer.
Having to pay £14 for a small starter (i.e. scotch egg) and £31 for an 8 ounce sirloin steak, you'd expect a Michelin star restaurant based in London.
The bedrooms are extremely dated, and the beds are really uncomfortable.
We had to ask to change rooms in the middle of the night, as it was far too uncomfortable (we had a twin room, and we had simply put both beds together - it was like sleeping on a hammock!)
Once the staff had kindly accommodated us to a double room, the room was covered in bugs and the double bed was about the same size of a big single bed.
It's such a shame because the location has so much potential; the staff are exceptional and the grounds are beautiful. But I would highly recommend serious renovations taking place to improve people's stay and feedback.

5 star price for 3 star product
A disappointing experience and poor value for money – a five star price but a 3 star product. The hotel offers rooms at a range of prices and while the rooms are of different standards, the hotel experience is not. For £220 p/n for bed and breakfast, we expected a much better breakfast offering than the buffet with its half empty plates and cereals in packets, and our dark table in the corner. Although a range of teas and coffees was available, we were not offered it and the second pot of tea we asked for just never came. I did complain politely at the time, and cancelled our dinner booking on the evidence of the breakfast, and was offered a compensatory fruit salad the next day, when a £50 refund off the total of £440 would have been much more appropriate compensation. Clearly they are not short of customers and don’t feel the need to try harder. And another comment; as we were staying 2 nights we agreed not to have our room serviced, for which we were given 2 complimentary drinks from the bar. However, while we were happy to forego clean towels, surely we could have been offered some more tea and biscuits at least?

Beautiful character property with main areas sympathetically restored/kept
Very busy...but no ones fault regarding that!

The breakfast. The view over the garden.
The hotel cannot help the fact that it is in an old building but we found the many staircases and different levels challenging. The staff tried hard but there were not enough of them( eg in reception when many were leaving on the Sunday morning and needed to pay their bill. Simple things in the room would have improved the welcome.( A book or folder with important information like the hotel’s Wi-Fi password and a guide to the tv channels.) we had to ask which took reception away from their primary job.
Sadly, we met other guests who were equally dissatisfied. Our feeling was that the hotel lacked good management. Individual members of staffwere helpful and talented, but the whole lacked direction and supervision.
A pity because with its location and facilities it has the potential to be much better than it is.

The outside area, the room size, the parking, the bar staff were friendly.
The toilet was crammed in the huge bathroom so your knees touched the wall and bath (the toilet button was hard to find down the side of the toilet).
The room had dozens of daddy long legs/midges which would hover over your face when you woke up in the middle of the night.
The bathroom 'automatic light' kept randomly coming on.
The room was freezing as it was hot weather the basement rooms had no light and were freezing by comparison.
The breakfast had no eggs, one of the key elements to a fry up.

The location near the canal for walking, the magnificent old buildings and garden and the breakfast.

Had a truly excellent dinner. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Rooms slightly noisy but very comfortable. Excellent atmosphere, loved the looks of the main building.
Wi-Fi could be a bit more fit for the current age. Data was a bit slow and login was iffy. Some parts of the building looked like they needed repair.

character property, room was comfortable but a bit tired
needs some Tlc

Customer service was very good. One gentleman went beyond expectations when we could not get a taxi.
The attention to detail in the room facilities (sloppy paint work, plugs loose, shower weak)

We had a lovely room and we’re fortunate to be upgraded to a junior suite. Good choice of breakfast.
Our family were In a cosy room which was a little small for them, particularly as we had been upgraded.
6.0
Breakfast was very poor. Also we changed our room which was initially lacking in privacy - on full view from the garden, and noisy with poor noise insulation from the room above in the new wing
Breakfast very poor
