Quinta do Cabouco is the perfect rural accomodation! It is very cozy, it gives you a nice homey feeling and you can see the soul and energy put in every detail of this place by Filomena! Ideall for couples/ travellers that enjoy nature and prefer avoiding the commercial or crowded ares; yes, it is recommended to rent a car for reaching the accomodation but i quess most tourists rent a car anyway for better discovering Madeira! We were warmly welcomed and, during our stay it was my husband's birthday, so Filomena gave him a gift! Inside is very clean, breakfast is fantastic, rich, very tasty and includes (aside from the regular menu you would expect) all sorts of local fruits, pastries and fresh juice! The views from the garden and from our window were also spectacular, very good location (nears many beautiful beaches and tourist attractions) and, last but not least, the bed is super confortable so you will for sure have a good night sleep!

Everything!
The place where the house is on Google maps is not accurate. (in fact its more down the street - it could cause problems while GPS navigation). But its really the only small thing.

A beautiful place where we spent our ten days in Madeira. Historic house full of hospitality, always perfectly clean. The owner is a wonderful person with a big heart. I can definitely recommend to those who want to experience a fabulous holiday. Thank you so much and we hope to return again. Monika and Martin
I didn't like that I couldn't stay there forever

Filomena is an exceptionally kind, welcoming host, and we are fortunate that she enjoys sharing her historic family home with others. The view of Ribeira Brava and the ocean is spectacular. We enjoyed eating fresh fruits from the garden. The separate guest kitchen with adjoining wisteria-draped (ocean view) veranda was a lovely space to have a meal or just relax. We also liked the fact that there are only three guestrooms. We had a very comfortable stay here, and would definitely recommend it for couples.
It's a bit of a drive up the terraced hills of Ribeira Brava, but the benefit of that is fabulous ocean views. The driveway entrance is steep, so the front undercarriage of our rental car rubbed the pavement both coming and going.

Breakfast was beautifully presented. Views from room were stunning. Lots of space to sit and relax on terraces. Use of guest kitchen very handy for drinks and snacks etc.
Roads and entrance are on very steep inclines so be aware when arriving by car (especially in the dark...!)

The breakfast was so beautiful made, Filomena the owner, really put a lot of effort to make it so aesthetic and delicious. It is home made cakes, figs from the garden (when season) and other fresh fruit, and homemade jam, and everything you need!! The location is so peaceful and relaxed, just sitting in her beautiful and extraordinary garden is so healing. I just loved it som much, so I have already booked for next year. She have three beautiful rooms, and she have made the rooms so cosy and fresh. She takes so much care of her guests, and have made so much space for her guests. It is many areas where you can sit alone and not get disturbed. Al very tastefully decorated. She gave me so many vegetables and fruits from her lovely garden, and I just made so many meals in the kitchen from all the food she gave me. She is generous, gentle and kind. This is a place for truly healing and relaxing. I can not cover with words how grateful I was during my stay!! It is a peaceful place and you overlook the ocean and sunset! The best way to get around is with a rented car. The busses do not go often in Madeira. But I stayed 14 days without a car, and took the buss now and than and walked down to the beach. It is very steep, but it is also possible. Filomena also showed me her organic fairytale garden, and I have never seen so much lovely variety in a garden before. She is truly respectful, not only to her guests but also to the environment. And it is the first time in my life I went into a reception for doing the payment, and than got served Madeira wine, classic Madeira cake and figs! Very unusual. In this place you get true luxury given by the heart!!!

Filomena welcomed us in the middle of the night with a very delicious treat. She really is one of the best hosts we ever had. She is super kind and made us feel at home the whole time. She even let us pick figs from her garden. We really loved staying with her. Breakfast was delicious with freshly baked treats and fresh orange juice. Filomena also served home made jam and tomatoes from her garden. The room was spaceous and super clean with a comfy bed. The view was amazing. We even saw the sunset from our window. Free parking on the premesis. It was super easy to get to all the important places since the house is located in the middle of the south of the island.
The only thing that was not 100% perfect was the missing shelf in the bathroom. Nothing major.

Amazing old house with the soul kept by Filomena. You are welcomed warmly and feel like long awaited guest. Room was cosy with great view over the ocean. Every evening you could enjoy sunsets directly through the window or seated comfortably on the terrace enjoying lunch or glass of madeiran wine.
Real treasure to find and would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Wow! What an amazing accommodation in a beautiful part of Madeira! We could not have asked for a better 5-day stay. As others have remarked, our host Filomina was so gracious and so kind throughout our stay. She takes wonderful care of her guests from the moment you arrive. Breakfasts each morning were terrific -- a great way to start the day before heading out to walk or hike. Each room offers a great ocean-view. Our room was so comfortable -- a great place to return to after a busy day of walking. Qiuinta do Cabouco is peaceful and quiet -- a delight after a busy day. In the town of Ribeiro Brava there are some very nice restaurants visitors can choose from. We had excellent dinner meals each night of our stay and the service was outstanding. After-dinner walks on the beach promenade were a great way to top off the day. We will visit Madeira again in the future, and we will most certainly book with Quinta do Cabouco. Thanks Filomina! You Rock!

Filomena does everything do make your stay as wonderful as possible.
We stayed for 1 week and we loved everything, the breakfast, her welcome ceremony with the Madeira wine and delicious cakes, the view, location (it is perfect when you want to drive to different places on the island), the house and the garden and it always seems to be sunny in Ribeira Brava :) Last but not least Filomenas wonderful generosity and hospitality - it makes you feel like you are at home.
The walls are so thick that the WiFi signal may not work in your room - but it always work in the common areas so it is not a problem.

Filomena is a gorgeous and interesting woman with good taste for decoration who puts all her love in the house and the garden. She bakes fresh cakes every day! Also we loved the fruits from her garden. The house is calm, cozy and lovely decorated. We have never been in such a clean space I guess. I think she only rents 3 rooms, so it is not crowded and also the covid-risk is lower.
The house is up the hills. We didnt have a car, walking down is a bit exhausting because of the steep roads we werent used to. Maybe about 30 minutes walk. It was possible however. To go up we took a taxi which is no problem. Also to do most of the trips we took a taxi, which was in the end way cheaper then renting a car. There are some small shops and a supermarket in the town center.
There is a kitchen for the guests and a lot of shared space (terrace, balcony, living rooms on two floors). No balcony for each room separately.
Maybe its possible to improve a bit the wifi in the room (repater?). Internet on the first floor close to the office is better however.
Bring moskito spray!

We can only agree with the previous positive comments! The view was stunning, the house is amazing, cozy, spotless... and Filomena - she is hospitality personified!! 10/10 PS. Thanks again for everything Filomena! Hope to be back soon, and all the best..

We spent a wonderful week at Quinta do Cabouco. After a very hospitable welcome, we were allowed to stay in a comfortable and stylistically beautifully furnished room, which bore the signature of the hostess, and were released into the day with a breakfast with fruits from the own garden.
The house is very elegantly furnished and offers the possibility for a wonderful evening in front of the fireplace, the preparation of the own meals in the house kitchen and to stay in various lounges or on the balconies or terraces. Surrounded by a beautiful garden you can enjoy the view of the area and the sea and let your soul dangle in the wind. We will surely come back, not only because from this place, one can easily get to all sightseeings and hiking destinations, but also because after our expeditions we repeatedely liked to come back to the Quinta do Cabouco in order to finish the day in a pleasant atmosphere.

Beautiful old but completely up to date property on the slopes with fantastic views to the Atlantic Ocean. You have access to a fully equipped kitchen and living rooms and balcony.
Convenient location to hiking trails and Funchal, the capital city of the island.
There was nothing we didn’t like
