One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed. Beautiful from top to bottom. Great attention
None. Bit pricy perhaps for a solo traveller but all hotels in Hakone are similar

Breathtaking lake view, welcoming staff, soothing hot spring and great location! Just a few minutes’s walk from 箱根神社, the lake and motohakone ko. The hotel’s shuttle bus can also pick you up at motohakone ko. We enjoyed the Japanese breakfast and the French dinner, delicious food with reasonable price. There’s a staff at the hotel that speaks Chinese and she’s so friendly and helpful! So don’t worry if you don’t speak Japanese or English. We also happened to arrive at the firework day and it was ABSOLUTE STUNNING
The room facility and decor isn’t as good as the other hotels we stayed, but it’s quite understandable considering the hotel’s long history.

It’s my bad choice to go it during late July, which means leaves are not as colorful as they do in autumn. But the hotel has best view when I upgraded my room to 4th (top) floor. It’s possible to see full Mt.Fuji from windows in room or at restaurant for breakfast. And I feel grateful that staff are very helpful, even before my checking-in.

It is located in a nice place, though not convenient for people with disabilities. The hotel has a shuttle to the nearby restaurant area.
It does need an overall renovation. The carpet in the whole hotel is putrid.
4.5
Quiet hotel with view on the lake.
The onsen is nice with an indoor and outdoor bath.
Rooms are spacious and well equipped.
There is a shuttle bus to get into town which is not far but difficult to get to with suitcases.
Management allowed me to make a late checkout. Thank you!
The hotel decoration is a bit outdated. However, the hotel is comfortable.
There is (as a lot of hotels in Japan) only Japanese TV channels.

De Yama:
One of the best hotels in Tokyo- right from amazing views of Lake Ashi to picking us up from the bus stop in their airport shuttle to providing us with the appropriate information about everything and even educating us on all the various touristy things that we could in Hakone, this hotel is the best. Their staff is amazingly good too - we were pure vegetarians and the staff requested the Chef to make a pure vegetarian meal especially for us. Even when we requested them to help us heat our food - they were very accommodative to cater to our request which is not in their SOP. The Onsen at the hotel was also very clean and good. Even though the cost is a bit on the higher side but I would certainly recommend this hotel to everyone who is travelling to Hakone.
It would have been great if they include some vegetarian options in their meals so that it caters to people who dont eat meat.
5.0
The hotel sits surrounded by forest hills on one side and a beautiful landscaped park on lake Ashi on the other side withbview of the surrounsing mountains; it's a truly wonderful and magical place.
The hotel is classy albeit a bit dated and could need some paint and rennovation here and there.
The onsen area is wonderful, and open almost 24h/day.
Staff is very friendly and helpful with high service level.
There is also a frequent shuttle bus to Motohakone.
Reataurants on premise are high quality, albeit expensive.
WiFi coverage is poor: many hotel locations and hallways etc have no internet, in the room's bathroom there was no signal.
Drinks in the hotel are overpriced, e.g. a simple coffee in the lounge costs ¥1200 = €8 (?!), same for a beer; these are unfortunately rip-off prices exploiting the remote location and lack of options near the premises.
There was no breakfast buffet but only a very limited a-la-carte set menu, which was good but identical the entire week; more variety and changing menus at least every other day would be good.
Opening times are too short: breakfast ends 09:30, room service is only 17:30-19:30, dinner is until 19:30, the lobby piano-bar closes already around 20:30/21h so it's not possible to relax over a drink in the evenings => longer opening times would be good (e.g. breakfast til 10:30, dinner til 21h, piano lounge til 23h, room service 24h).
Spa: we would have loved to try a massage but it was super expensive (about ¥20'000 for 60mins). In Kyoto and Tokyo high-quality massages were ¥10'000, here it's 2x(!) so we didn't do it, which is a pity.

The location and the room

There are 2 types of restaurants - Japanese menu and French-inspired menu. The onsen was great. The room was clean as well.
The overall room outlook needs revamping, it feels quite dated. Do not expect them to provide cotton buds, shavers, combs. Only have basic body and hair wash, sachets of skincare, toothbrush set and a hairdryer. Only saying this because we experienced 2 other hotels in Japan that provided all of the above.

What we like about Hotel de Yama is the location, the garden, the mountains and the lake because they are very beautiful from the room's view..Their food is delicious French cuisine and Japanese cuisine..The room was clean and comfy. That thing which surprised me and my husband with our dinner at their French restaurant (Very Bois) was our last menu, they wrote a Happy birthday Sheila! it was such a memorable trip on my birthday..and they gave us a souvenir picture on that night taken on my birthday.Thank you so much Hotel de Yama for great service. We are satisfied customers.. We will definitely book again..✨🙏😌🥰
At that time, we only saw a few flowers. I hope next time there will be more flowers.🍀🌸

Everything was excellent, the Japanese diner was amazing.
The location is what I like the least in terms of "a place from which it is practical to explore Hakone". In itself it is really beautiful.
4.5
excellent service, restaurants and location. easy to move around from there
breakfast was a bit expensive and with limited choices
3.5
We had a room with an amazing view of Ashi lake. Great location near the red gate. The onsen is small but comfortable. Drinking mineral tap water was also provided. Breakfasts are served in sets. Japanese breakfast is delicious, there was variety. Thanks to the woman who cleaned the room. Very friendly
The style of the room is rustic. Windows are dirty. Onsen is small. French breakfast is poor. Far from the bus stop, there was no taxi when we arrived. Therefore, it took a time to roll the suitcases uphill

Room carpet should be replaced!

The onsen was the best we visited in Japan. It was clean and well supplied with everything needed before and after enjoying the onsen ( hair brushes, lovely hair and body products etc). The view of Mount Fuji was so beautiful from the garden and the room. Also enjoyed the private jetty and walk along the lake in the morning.
The hotel was a little dated. new paint and carpets would make a huge difference.

Spa was amazing and the View from my room so pleased Loved the place!

The view from the hotel was spectacular.
The garden was very nice, even though it was not the best season for flower viewing.
The onsen has a nice large size and allows for true relaxation when coming back from a hiking treck.
The hotel is slightly old, some renovations would be nice.
The hotel does not provide nice slippers and allow people to keep their shoes on inside.

Directly next to Ashi Lake, view on that lake and the vast Rhododendron garden, hot spring, very delicious Japanese food.

The garden of the hotel is fabulous. The view over the lake is magnificent. The lunch was gorgeous. The hotel is fabulous.

I enjoyed the dinners and the blooming garden the most.
The check-in staff could have been more thoughtful. In my previous stay, I was offered a complimentary drink when I opted out the daily cleaning. But this time nothing was offered, not even an extra bottle of water. Two bottles were provided on the first day only. Afterwards, I needed to buy water from a vending machine which is hidden way down in the basement by the Karaoke room. I had to ask about its whereabouts and the water bottle was ¥140.
I was also charged ¥300 for the public bath fee during the two-night stay even though I didn't use the facility. But this was expected in the booking.
