Great breakfast.
We are not picky people, however we expect a good level of cleanliness and truth about the accommodation we pay for, this place didn't live up to that. We do not wish to be unnecessarily critical, but feel let down by the over priced and untruthful reviews. The owners should take a good look at their standards of housekeeping and treat customers with respect.
Room was stuffy and bearing in mind the temperature, there was no air conditioning, however, a fan partly made up for it. We didn't want to open the veranda doors because of possibility of mosquitoes.
We asked for a quiet room but it was far from quiet as the staff kept running up and down the stairs and allowing the door to shut thereby making a noise each time.
On Tuesdays there is a quiz, which was extremely noisy because the Quizmaster was shouting into the microphone, our 'quiet' room was beneath the bar. This was furthest from being a quiet room.
The upholstery in the restaurant was filthy as one could plainly see from the stains on every seating place.
There was a 'discretionary' service charge, at the owner's discretion, obviously, which we were not aware of at the time of ordering food. However, the owners may defend the fact that there is a very small statement at the bottom left of the menu card; watch out for the small print before ordering. We would have gladly tipped the servers, however, it seems like the owners under pay the staff and over charge the customers to balance this out.
As tour operators, we would not recommend anyone to stay here until the above comments are addressed.

Just about everything.
The breakfast wasn’t as good as I had hoped - luke warm beans, and cold mushrooms.

Inside the property is beautiful. Open fireplace in the bar, original features and a popular place to go so the atmosphere was good. The rooms are spacious and there is a pantry in the hallway to top up anything you may need. Will certainly stay again. The food is outstanding too.
I don’t think there was anything I didn’t like.

Had evening meal which was very good after a long day but the breakfast you could not fault made fresh with all local provisions. All staff very attentive and great location.Bathroom well equipped with toiletries. Tea and coffee making facilities with free bottled water nice touch.
Heating at top of stairs like a sauna but not a problem.
Everything was perfect 👌

A good setting for an olde worlde property!

Car parking close by and convenient. Cheerful, courteous and helpful staff; excellent food - good choice for a small menu but very well prepared. Room - though not large - was well equipped, very clean and very comfortable - particularly the en suite facilities. Excellent value for money all round. Look forward to being able to return some time in the future if at all possible!
Nothing to dislike.

Lovely breakfast.
Bed was a bit noisy - creaked every time I moved.

The location was spot on. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were great and the staff were all lovely.
If you want to get an early night, not quite possible at a weekend when the pub shuts at 11 but after 11, it’s very quiet.

It is hard to rate so low but the overall experience was terrible. It is a shame as the staff were really nice apart from one This person was SO RUDE AND AGGRESSIVE he actually ruined our holiday. Knocked on the door at 11 am saying he needed the room immediately. I said we were already packed as he could see and we would be down in 10 minutes. He said NO he needed the room RIGHT NOW.
As we were checking out we overheard him saying to his colleagues that he would not deal with us as we sweared at him. A complete and utter lie.
He was in fact the waiter at breakfast who was 25 mins late for his duty and as a result the chef was having to rush around to attend all of the guests whilst obviously trying to manage the kitchen at the same time.
We had a wonderful Sunday lunch the day before served by great and very efficient staff who we tipped very well for "over and beyond" good service and the lunch was delicious.
This waiter upset my wife and I so much it ruined the rest of our stay and return to France.
The staff are only as strong as the teams weakest link which ended up completely ruining our holiday.
This was the last day of our holiday and we were disappointed to find that the Duke William was closed on Father's Day, Sunday evening.
We had chosen to stay at the Duke William so that we could have a nice celebratory evening meal and bottle of wine without worrying about driving afterwards.
Shocked, very upset and disappointed.
The waiter refused to give his name however we photographed him for good measure and to inform management. Attached.

Good place for a two nights stay with our dog. Excellent food in the pub and good choices for breakfast. We stayed in the room with a terrace with a gorgeous view over the fields. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Breakfast was very good, fresh ingredients and served in an efficient and friendly manner.
Had dinner there too. Imaginative menu and very good quality food. Met several people in the bar who came regularly to the pub from Sandwich for dinner.

very clean and comfortable adequate for a nights stay .staff were very friendly and accommodating.
parking was tricky had to walk for bottom of road with luggage and my child , and had to walk through the bar to check in no clear check in point .

The room was lovely , beautiful and clean with great little extras , coffee pods , fresh milk, nice toiletries
We were told that sound could travel from the pub downstairs when it was open but as it shut at 10:30pm it would then be quiet. However the clearing up staff played loud music until midnight even though they were aware that this noise would travel to the upstairs bedrooms. Music at that time of night was unnecessary and inconsiderate. This needs addressing by management.

Lovely pub and lovely rooms, and staff were super friendly!
Sadly, it was just too loud if you were in the room whilst the pub was busy downstairs.
4.5
it is a lovely pub with a handful of guest bedrooms in a charming village 15 minutes from Canterbury.
The pub is lively, warm and cosy, both diner and breakfast were excellent, and so was the welcome and the staff in general.
Our bedroom was pretty, with a little selection of books and other details that made it comfortable and welcoming. Be aware that, being above the pub, the bedroom is very quiet… but between 22.30ish -8am, which was totally fine for us.
