About this cabin rental
Heron Pond Hideaway is a stunning and spacious, newly decorated, beautiful home on 5 wooded acres in the Adirondacks, perfect for family reunions or getaways with friends and business associates!
Reminiscent of the Great Camp style of the Adirondacks, this beautiful lodge features stained-glass windows, gorgeous wood coffered ceilings, cherry wood trim and built-in custom cabinetry. A soaring stone fireplace graces the cathedral ceiling of the Great Room, and each of the six comfortable private bedrooms is creatively themed.
The large, fully-equipped “chef’s” kitchen is an entertainer’s dream with plenty of counter space, 2 sinks, Wolf gas stove with 4 burners and a center griddle for Saturday morning pancakes, and large refrigerator with wine drawer. The breakfast nook and bar will seat 10-12. And off the kitchen, the lovely formal dining room can seat another 10 (with additional folding table and chairs provided). Our separate family room with kids area includes 65" flat screen tv, Roku, wifi, foosball table, and plenty of games and books, with an additional Game Room for playing pool and mixing cocktails at the bar--everything you could want in a mountain get-away!
Six bedrooms (2-Kings, 1- Queen, 1- Queen and Twin, 1- Full and attached room with 1- Full and 3-Twins) provide plenty of privacy and solitude for a large group. An additional daybed is available on 2nd floor balcony. We think good sleep is key on a vacation so all of our King/Queen beds are memory foam with a soft and firm pillow for each guest to choose from. (Full and twin beds have one pillow per guest). The bed linens are high quality, high thread count, 100% breathable cotton and every bedroom has room darkening blinds and/or curtains for sleeping in. For better quality sleep, we keep the bedrooms cooler, but for those who need it, we provide thick wool or fleece blankets for snuggling up so everyone is at a happy temperature.
In summer, take a cooling dip in the spring-fed swimming pond or let the kids spend hours exploring our 5 acres of woods or playing in the huge, screened treehouse. Everyone can enjoy the hiking and jogging trails (Moxham Trailhead is less than a mile from the house) or the propane grill, picnic table, basketball court with adjustable hoop height, soccer/volleyball field and campfire area.
Centrally located in the Adirondacks, you’ll find you are a short drive from almost anything your nature-loving heart desires. Beautiful Minerva Beach is just minutes away (1.5 miles from the house) with lifeguard on duty and offers kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals, food stand, tennis & basketball courts. Nearby activities include white water rafting, mountain biking, trout fishing, glass blowing classes, cave exploring, garnet mining, water tubing, the Rev Rail Co and more! As a landing base for day trips, Lake George is 36 minutes away and Lake Placid is 80 min.
In the winter, ski at Gore Mountain just 15 minutes away. Or try the full-service Nordic Center at Garnet Hill for cross country skiing and ice-skating. Snowshoe right out the door of Heron Pond Hideaway! There's also snow tubing, snowmobiling, ice castles, hunting, ice fishing, hok skiing and kick sledding! And after a long day, you’ll relax in our hot tub under a romantic sky full of stars (hot tub not available May 1- Labor Day).
Additionally, we have a wonderful caretaker who lives above the Carriage House on the property and is available for emergencies or other urgent maintenance needs. He plows and sands the driveway through the winter months so you can always be first to the lifts!
The beauty of our cabin is that it is quiet and private, located off a main road and down a gravel road. And as you have no doubt noticed, the weather is very unpredictable these days. Snowy one day and sun shining the next. While the town and our caretaker do an excellent job, the quick change in weather can cause the short non-paved road to our cabin and our steep driveway to become icy or muddy. This most frequently can happen during the late Winter/early Spring. We recommend AWD and driving with caution during these times of the year.

The property offers a beautiful setting with spacious rooms and plenty of activities for all ages. It's a perfect place for family gatherings and outdoor fun.

Three families stayed at the property (6 adults, 4 children). Plenty of room for all of us. It’s a cool house with good separation. The pool table and the big kitchen table got a lot of use! The kids loved fishing in the little pond behind the house. We didn’t get to use the treehouse much, but the kids thought it was really cool.
The house is certainly remote in a quiet town. Lake George is about ~45 min away, not a bad drive. Restaurant options are limited within ~15 minutes, but there are good ones.
Great place to stay to getaway and relax!

Beautiful location and home. Check in was easy, but 5:00 was too late to check in with hungry children! Plenty of space for us all to spread out. Nice outdoors with pond, basketball court and plenty of places to roam.
Our biggest complaint was the sound of the caretakers' truck leaving the property between 5 and 6 each morning. Because we were not allowed to put out garbage after 6, or use the basketball court after 10 because it infringed on the caretakers it seemed to us that this was inconsiderate to the paying guests.
It was especially inconvenient that we couldn't shower/bath the first night or until after 10:30 the next morning due to septic problems. We realize septic problems come unexpectedly, but could have been handle better. Hot water was not adequate for 11 guests.

We had 11 adults/friends in our group for our yearly reunion. The house was very clean with everything we needed. The bedding and furnishings are high quality and comfortable, we had plenty of space, and everyone had plenty of space so we didn’t feel crowded at all. Even though the caretaker is close by, we didn't see him or feel watched over, which was nice. Shannon was awesome and quick to reply to any questions I had. The house is close to a public beach (about 5 min drive) with bathrooms, food, picnic areas, volleyball, etc. We also went tubing down the Hudson River through Beaver Brook Outfitters, which was about a 20-25 minute drive from the house and a lot of fun. The treehouse is impressive and we enjoyed sitting on both the front and back porches. The pool and foosball tables were great to have and we used them quite a bit. The kitchen was perfect for making meals together. I wouldn’t say the pond is a swimming pond, but we did enjoy seeing the turtle and frogs! Overall a great stay, great host, and I would highly recommend!

We had a great time in our stay! The house is so well set up for a large group with ample seating in all spaces. The kids loved the game room and took full advantage of the pool table and foosball table. We had preteens and teens that found plenty of things to keep them off screens for our stay. The lawns are huge for games like corn hole and frisbee. The Minerva beach was very convenient with a great little snack bar. A big storm knocked out power in the surrounding area for 24 hours while we were there but we didn’t even know thanks to the generator onsite. The host was responded quickly to every question we had. We had a great time and highly recommend this listing.

Our family of 14 had a wonderful stay at Heron Pond Hideaway. Our grandchildren enjoyed feeding the fish in the pond as well as “Snappy” the turtle of the pond. They enjoyed some fishing as well as a couple of nights of campfires, s’mores, and trivia. We railbiked and tubed just 15 minutes away and spent a day at the Great Escape just 45 minutes away. Our last two days we spent at the house playing indoor and outdoor games and enjoying the two large porches and comfortable chairs. It was a vacation full of lasting memories.

Spent four days here with friends and family while hiking in the area. The pictures look great, but the place looks even better in person. There are plenty of room to spread out amongst the multiple living areas and there is plenty of property to wander around outside. Despite staying here during a record heat wave with the outside temperature in the 90s, the house remained very pleasant in the 70s, despite not having AC. I would definitely return here again the next time I'm in the Adirondacks.

We had a wonderful stay with 6 adults and 4 children under 7 years old. The property was secluded but accessible to shroon lake and hiking trails. It was very clean and comfortable. The pond and treehouse were a huge hit with the kids. We already discussed staying again next year.

We wanted one last winter hurrah with our adult kids and their friends. This house was perfect, the communication couldn’t have been better…can’t wait to come back!!

We stayed at the house for 5 nights with a large group of families and kids from toddlers to teenagers.
The house is very beautiful, with lots of nice personal touches, but also very comfortable and spacious. We could all hang out together, but there were also lots of nice nooks and break out areas to keep everyone happy and occupied (pool table and hot tub were a hit, as was the pond, outside fire pit and tree house).
Super close to Gore & well set up for ski gear storage. Super accessible but also very private - good place for kids to run around and feel like they are in the middle of wilderness.
One of our favorite trips.
Thank you Shannon!

We went on a ski trip with our friends and family. The house is absolutely stunning and has everything you need. The outside view of the pond is beautiful and the tree house was a fun plus. Very close to gore mountain about 15-20 minutes. Every person that came loved the house with no complaints. Thank you so much!

My friends and I have been doing a group ski trip every year for the past 6 years and this has been the best so far. The house was immaculate and Shannon was very helpful when we needed. Also the view of the pong covered in snow while we were the was beautiful. The house is only 15 minutes from Gore Mountain.

We loved this home and would happily return. It's beautifully decorated and very comfortable for large groups. It was just what we were looking for in terms of a great place to stay with two families on a ski weekend (although it could have easily accommodated more people). It was so cozy and beautiful!

We were a group of 14 people and the house has room for all with privacy for all. We really enjoyed our stay, house is very well equipped with everything needed. The house care taker promptly plowed the driveway after 18" of snow came down. If going to the house in the winter a 4x4 is highly recommended. This is a great place for large groups. I will definitely stay here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed Shannon’s house. The house and furniture feels brand new and the home was so cozy. It felt like we could have stayed inside for an entire week and not run out of things to do. There are far too many amazing things about the house and property that it is impossible to list them all. The communication was excellent and Shannon’s recommendations were amazing. We ate at Beck’s and did the Moxham mountain hike and recommend them both! We definitely are already planning to stay here again.

Very spacious home! Beautiful woodwork throughout. Had everything we needed in the kitchen. Very clean. Our adult children and grandchildren had plenty of space. There were 9 adults, an infant and a 4 year old. Lovely to gather together in one spot after not being together for some time. Lovely and quiet setting. Our four year old loved looking for frogs and fish in the pond and playing in the tree house. Lots of fun outdoor activities within an hour drive

Beautiful Cabin
We had a great 4th of July weekend. The Cabin was clean and spacious and well-stocked with essentials. Check-in was a breeze and we quickly got unpacked and explored the area. Kids loved all the toys and play area, they also enjoyed the treehouse and pond (convinced my nephew to jump in). Plenty to do in the area including a great Minerva beach (large sand area, playground on the beach, big swim area and kayak rentals). Owners provided a great list of things to do.

Great Stay; Lovely Place to Relax
We had an excellent stay at this property. We were a group of 10 (originally supposed to be 11, but one person was unable to go last minute), and we had a wide range of ages from four to 82, which means we were in need of a large property, with multiple bedrooms, and easy access for elderly. This house fit the bill.
My grandmother was able to take the master with the walk in shower (and has a small seat, making it easy for use); the rest of us took the upstairs, and had everything we needed.
The property was clean, and very well kept. There is a caretaker to lives in the garage just across from the house, and he really does a great job of maintaining the grounds.
The kitchen had what was needed, and although we did not require use of bedding and towels (we just prefer to bring our own), they were all available, cleaned, and ready, in case we forgot or needed. Also, the WiFi was very reliable.
We had a FANTASTIC time, so please don’t hesitate to book the property. However, I just also want to mention three things that we felt affected our vacation a bit, so I would think it would be helpful to see in a review when trying to decide if this is the right spot for you (and again, this is NOT against the property or it’s owners, who were WONDERFUL). 1.) We were really planning to do most things in Lake George, and since you only get the property area, not the full address until after booking, it was a bit further away then expected. We originally mapped/timed things with just “Minerva, NY” plugged in, but with the location of the house, it added about 10-12 minutes to every drive. Not a huge deal, but something to consider. 2.) There is only one TV. A second one in the master would have been a lot better for so many people/rooms. 3.) Since this is their primary residence, there’s not really many places for unpacking in the bedrooms - closets are locked up, and only limited drawers. This is hard if you are traveling with little kids who need to be unpacked and organized for your own sanity.
Thanks for letting us stay at your cool place!

A nice weekend getaway with some caveats
This is a very spacious house with plenty of bedrooms and living space. The house has a pond next to it. There are plenty of things to do in the area and the location of the house is perfect. The owners are responsive and we agree with all the previous reviews.
However, there are some caveats to the house we wish we had known prior to booking:
Someone else lives on the property: There is another small house on the property. It is occupied by the caretaker of the house. Even though the caretaker tries his best to be invisible, you will notice his presence and his large pickup truck. Half of the rental agreement contains details about how we are supposed to respect the privacy of the caretaker (for example, the basketball court is off-limit after 10 pm, can't throw the trash out after 6 pm as it intrudes on the privacy of the caretaker, etc.). If you are truly looking for a quiet and secluded experience, this isn't it.
Laundry: There is a laundry room in the house. However, the rental agreement states that it is not intended for the guests' personal use. It is only for washing bed linens and house towels during an extended stay. To make sure that you can't wash your clothes (after activities on the beach or on the hiking trail), they provide very limited laundry detergents. You will have to bring a lot of clothes.
Limited supplies: In the kitchen (and all over the houses), there are very limited supplies of basic necessities. Half of the cabinets, and drawers are off-limits. We ended up making a lot of trips to the nearby stores.
Water activities: There is a pond in the facility. The rental agreement talks about the possibility of fishing or swimming. However, there are no fishing rods, life jackets, or any relevant water activity-related products.
Cleaning instructions: It is great that the owner doesn't charge a cleaning fee. But the trade-off is that the cleaning instructions are obsessive. As the house is large, you may spend half of your day complying with the instructions and cleaning the house to recover your deposit.

Great hosts
The owners were very communicative and helpful before and during the stay. The home and property are absolutely beautiful and a close drive to Gore. We were there in the winter to ski but would happily return in the summer. Highly recommend this property.

Weekend getaway
House was so beautiful and big! Hot tub was awesome. Super close to Gore Mt for skiing and not too far from West Mt for snow tubing. We had so much fun this weekend. Everything we needed at our convenience. Owners were so sweet and accommodating and the property was very well kempt (and plowed :)) Would definitely recommend!

Family & Friends Ski Trip
The property is beautiful! The house has more than enough room to spread out, everything was clean, & the furniture is comfortable. We were able to stargaze from the hot tub at night & cozy up by the fire to get warm. The kitchen is amazing for those who love to cook. The host is more than accomodating. I wouldn't hesitate to book this rental again :)

This is a very spacious, comfortable home. It was perfect for what out group (3 families) was looking for. There was enough room for everyone to spread out. This house is located close to Gore Mountain which is a huge plus. The owners were very easy to communicate with and were available if need be. Would definitely stay here again.

Winter fun and relaxation
Our stay was great! The place feels even bigger than in the pictures. The house was in pristine condition and it felt welcoming from the moment we walked in. Mindy does a great job of walking you through expectations and answering any questions thereafter. The property was stunning in the snow and sooo close to a great hiking trail with gorgeous vistas (Moxham). We’d ask to stay here again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful 10/10 would stay again!
We came a little too early for full foliage views this year, but the property more than made our trip worth it! We loved exploring inside the house and around the grounds, and there was ample space for our group.
The kitchen was perfect for a potluck dinner prep session, even with 12 cooks in the kitchen! The rooms were nicely appointed, den and great room were comfortable and inviting, and we especially enjoyed connecting with nature during our stay. The wifi wasn’t as strong as we hoped (6 of us had to work remotely one day) but otherwise everything worked out well. House was so clean and I loved that there was a side entrance with cubbies for shoes so we could leave them at the door.
Thanks, Mindy, for being a lovely host!

Perfect Adirondack getaway
I stayed here over the Columbus Holiday weekend with my family and Inlaws. There were a total of 14 of us ranging from 9-61. The home provided nothing short of comfort and lifelong memories for all of us. A large beautiful home that fit all of us comfortably with extra space. The bedrooms were large and very private. Sound proof too. We couldn’t hear a thing which was great for the adults that wanted to sleep while the kids stayed up all night laughing. It’s located in the middle of nowhere lol but what can you expect in the country. Wifi worked well in the home but out of luck outside on the road (T-Mobile users here). But that was okay because we needed to get away from our electronics and spend quality time together. The kids enjoyed the hot tub and the basketball court. We all loved having the pond in the back where we all sat and relaxed by the bonfire and during the day the kids and adults would enjoy some fishing (and feeding the fish). Overall, i would come back here again and again. It provided fun and relaxation for everyone.

Multi-family get away
We could not have been happier with our stay!! The house was even more beautiful and spacious than the photos showed. We had three families, with kids ages 6-14. Everyone had their own space. During the day there was tons of room to eat and play, and at night there was plenty of room for the kids to hang out and the adults to hang out in different rooms. It was great to have that space to be together - and then separate!
Mindy was a very responsive and prepared host, which made the whole process quite easy. She sent very thorough instructions and suggestions for wonderful activities in the areas.
It was a wonderful stay!
