This was our second stay at Basiliani hotel for the last 6 months. We absolutely love the location, the rooms, and the spectacular views from the room. The breakfast is great - high quality local products, fresh, and nicely presented. The staff is very nice and attentive. We parked our car on a parking slot, outside the Sassi area and used the hotel shuttle service, which is very fast and convenient way to get to the hotel. Already looking forward for our next stay there.

The location. At the heart of the Old Town of Matera. They offer free shuttle transfer service all around the city of Matera.

Location was beautiful. Breakfast was tasty but limited choices.
They need a bar. Or at least opportunities for cocktails on arrival. A glass of wine while enjoying the spectacular view would be a special moment.
Rooms are quite nice. Beds are a tad stiff and low to the ground for older folks but it is very impressive what they have done with the rooms overall.
Staff is excellent. Very kind. Very thoughtful. And most of all very excited about the city of Matera and eager to share their knowledge. Overall a great experience.

The location was just incredible. Our room opened up to the gorge.. Hard to describe, but we were just above this incredible canyon. It did mean that very often there were tourists right outside our door, but really it was one of the prettiest spots in the city. The "restaurant street" is right behind the hotel, so that helps too. Breakfast was a basic cold cuts /yoghurt/fruit spread. Could have been better for sure.
Breakfast!

The location was stunning, the hotel is on the edge of the ravine looking across at cave dwellings. The room was in an incredibly old structure but was ultra modern, comfortable and sophisticated. We loved our stay. Matera is incredible… like no place we have ever seen. Incredibly ancient, great food and a relaxing location.
The highlight of our stay was the staff. They picked us up from a free parking lot and drove us to within 100-ft of the lobby. They used WhatsApp for us to conveniently interact and we used this process for top notch concierge services. They recommended restaurants and booked reservations, helped us reserve massage and spa at Aquatico (incredible!), picked us up and transported us back if we were tired from climbing hills, helped us locate an open pharmacy on a Sunday, and drove us across town for a cooking lesson. They were incredible! Special shout out to Roberto who was our English speaking concierge and go to guy!
Nothing. Our stay was perfection.

Everything. Great rooms with character and amazing views. Staff so friendly and attentive with good advice. Free shuttle from car park worked well. Best value for money we found across our six destinations in Puglia.
Everything was excellent.

Great view in front of the room. Nice quiet location.
Room is hugh but bathroom is very small, old, moldy and cheap decoration.

The location was superb - really unique, away from the crowds and above the gorge. No passing traffic. The breakfast was excellent and cheerfully served. I need a gluten-free diet and I was impressed with how I was looked after. We had a room in a cave, fully equipped and cool in the heat emergency. The hotel provided pick-up to and from the railway station. All of the historic centre is within walking distance and there is a circular bus route nearby.
The only problem was that workmen were on site. The room we were allocated was therefore too noisy, but the hotel moved promptly after we had complained.

Our "room" was really a suite of attached caves(!), plus a sleeping loft. There were two bathrooms, one of which was handicapped accessible. While there was only one small window, when you stepped outside of our door, we experienced an incredible view of the canyon and opposite side of the mountainous terrain (with caves). Breakfast was extremely generous and varied, with meats, cheeses, a wide selection of ripe fruit, pastries, juices and coffees. They even had hard boiled eggs. (Eggs and poultry products seem to be a rarity in Puglia and Basilicata). We were able to eat on on their outdoor terrace with the wonderful view! The location is in walking distance from many restaurants. The hotel offered free shuttle from the car parking area to the hotel on arrival and departure, and even took us to a pharmacy in the modern part of town to get Covid tests, which the US requires for reentry.
Can't think of a thing. The hosts were very accommodating, especially since the entire historic area is closed to visitor traffic.
