About this cabin rental
Need to unplug, unwind, and reconnect with nature? Perhaps a romantic getaway? Retreat to our 900 sq. ft. cabin nestled in 22 acres of the Northeast Kingdom's most magical forest. Wander the enchanted trails, dip your toes in Job's Pond, or take a short drive to scenic Lake Willoughby. Indoors, take in the natural views, relax in the meditation space, stargaze on the balcony, or just nap by the wood stove. Bear Cub invites you to breathe in and remember what inspires you.
Bear Cub Cabin was almost entirely built by the loving hands of a skilled carpenter, and you can feel it in every detail. The open-concept design of Bear Cub Cabin incorporates a fully equipped kitchen with a center island and an exposed beam ceiling as well as a spacious living area. In the winter months, cozy up to the warm glow of the heat stove, relax in the reading nook with the writings of Thoreau, or take a seat at the antique writing desk and let your pen follow your imagination back in time. The art and decor have been carefully selected to inspire and delight our guests, and include original woodcut prints and engravings from local artists as well as other whimsical touches and surprises.
Follow the spiral staircase up to the loft bedroom and sink into the luxurious linens of the queen-sized platform bed. Perhaps you'd like to start your mornings or end your days with quiet reflection time in the meditation space or venture out the French doors onto the balcony and listen to birds and the wind rustling the leaves.
While Bear Cub Cabin caters especially to natural views and experiences, we have installed a SmartTV in the loft bedroom in case you want to spend a rainy day relaxing with your favorite shows. A JVC Bluetooth speaker is onsite if you find yourself in need of some tunes. And the high-speed Starlink WIFI is robust if you need to take a Zoom call (although we hope you don't!) The brand new mini-split AC/Heating unit will keep the temperature right where you like it. For extra ambiance enjoy the gorgeous gas log heat stove.
**A full-size 4-wheel drive vehicle is a must for snow and mud seasons. The last 3 miles of the trip to Bear Cub Cabin are a gravel road. The road and the driveways are well maintained and regularly snow plowed but can get tricky at times with snow and ice conditions.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. We will do our best to accommodate you!

Private and quiet, meticulously clean, comfortable, and well stocked. Close to all the outdoor amenities, hiking and paddling, but also reasonably close (for the NEK!) to shopping if necessary. Tina is the best, available and responsive if you have any questions or issues. Thanks for sharing your place.

A cozy, secluded, peaceful cabin! Spent a lot of time in Island Pond, fantastic state parks and wildlife areas. Shower water was very hot but everything was amazing!

From the moment I walked in the door I knew it was a well cared for property. Very well appointed and charming decor. I felt fortunate to have found this place. Would recommend and would stay again.

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful experience staying at Bear Cub Cabin! The cabin was clean, wonderfully cozy, beautifully decorated with thoughtful and delightful art, and beyond peaceful. It had *everything* we needed and we felt instantly at home in the space.
We came up to the NEK for my husband to attend a private workshop I gifted him for his birthday last year. While he attended his class each day, I enjoyed the quiet serenity of the cabin. With several feet of snow on the ground and the trees draped in a sparkly coat of crystallized snow, it was like a true Winter Wonderland. The cabin felt like an absolute oasis in the middle of this dreamworld - truly magical.
We have stayed at many vacation rentals in many places and this was one of our absolute favorites. It was so perfect - thoughtfully equipped with a thorough guidebook that answered almost every question we had. When the one thing we couldn't find in there came up, we reached out to Tina and received an immediate response and address to the inquiry.
I can't praise this place enough! We already can't wait to come back

My wife and I stayed for a week and it was our first time exploring Vermont. The cabin has everything you need with a well stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, and an awesome fireplace. If you are looking for a quiet sanctuary this is the place to be. Look forward to visiting again in the future.

A wonderful property, secluded in the forests of northern Vermont. We stayed during the summer. The property is exactly as advertised. It is perfect for those seeking a quiet getaway. The kitchen is well-equipped, and there are fantastic farm-stands in the area to supply yourself with local produce, eggs, etc. There are also some great restaurants in the surrounding villages. Try The Inn at Burklyn for a fancy splurge, or The Burke Public House for seriously good pub food. We enjoyed a quiet weekend of reading on the front porch, board games, and star-gazing from the top deck.
For something off-beat, we recommend a day excursion to The Museum of Everyday Life and The Bread + Puppets Museum. Parker Pie House is a great stop for lunch in the area. We also recommend Next Trick brewery, which is only a few miles down the road.
If you're coming from the south, and enjoy baking, a stop at the King Arthur campus in Norwich is an absolute must. Overall a wonderful experience that will rejuvenate busy lives.

Great stay, clean and comfortable, close to excellence hiking and paddling. A quiet escape, just remote enough to somewhat unplug, but everything you might need is available in Island Pond or Newport. Thanks Tina!

It has always been a dream of mine to spend Christmas in a cabin in Vermont. My wish came true and it was better than I could’ve ever expected. Bear cub cabin was magical. It snowed every day, just a little, but it made everything beautiful. The cabin was cozy and charming and the attention to detail was impeccable. We have already made a reservation to return in 2023.

We stayed for 3 nights for a family wedding at Notch House, which was about 20 minutes away and Bear Cub Cabin was perfect for our needs! The gas wood stove was easy to turn on in the evenings for reading and lounging fireside. Coffee on the upper balcony in the morning before hiking Mt Pisgah(20 mins away and highly recommend!) was an excellent start to the day. The sheets and towels were fresh and soft, the cabin very clean, and we loved the original art and special touches. We greatly appreciate that Tina would share her beautiful cabin with us, and we would absolutely come back if travels take us back to northern Vermont.

A Den Indeed
We didn't hear a sound all weekend. The cabin was so cozy, beautiful wood stove, and all that you need for a peaceful get away. Our most relaxing weekend so far this year, we had a great stay, and hope to be back to experience it again in a different season. Thanks again!!

Smoky woodstove, loud furnace, difficult to get comfortable
Much care has been taken with the décor of this cabin, and it looks like a yoga studio/art gallery/antique shop. The host was responsive during the approach to our stay and helped us add a day prior to our arrival. However, it was an uncomfortable place to stay. This is the first rental we left early (partly due to weather). Host did refund our last day rent after our early departure.
Smoky smell - The cabin has two heat sources, a gas fired furnace in the corner of the first floor and a woodstove on the first floor. We observed that when the furnace was running, air was being pulled out of the woodstove into the room. This happens even if the dampers (all three) are closed shut. The woodstove needs repair to gaskets to stop this because the furnace pulls combustion air from the interior and thus pulls smoky smelling chimney air down the fireplace EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE THE wood stove. An outside combustion air supply for the furnace would help with this and would improve the cabin comfort level.
Smoky woodstove - Good instructions were provided for operating the stove, the stove was clean and free of ash in the firebox however, If you do light the stove, the room fills with smoke, because stove is not sealed properly.
Spiral staircase - The bed is comfortable (and high), but it's up an incredibly narrow spiral staircase. This is mentioned in the property description so know that if you are heavy or at all compromised in mobility and agility, you will have trouble with this staircase! The staircase separates the bedroom from the bathroom and kitchen/living area, so any late-night trips to the bathroom are up and down this staircase.
The gas fired furnace is LOUD regardless and disturbed our sleep. Kitchen has basic equipment. Note, as indicated in the cabin description, there is only a stove top percolator for making coffee, bring instant if you don't want to learn to use that.
Driveway was plowed on arrival. However, at the end it became a sheet of ice due to freeze/thaw weather. We requested that the driveway be sanded a couple times on our last day but it wasn’t done by the time we left (after noon). The sand and plow truck had mechanical issues. Getting out took our AWD vehicle, our emergency sand and decades of snowbelt/backwoods driving experience.
The couch was uncomfortable and worse as a pullout bed. Furnishings-attractive but generally uncomfortable for persons of average size.

Winter Cold Cabin Retreat
First off, I would like to apologize for taking a while to write this review. Bear Cub was just an amazing place to be. Everything was perfect down to the decor. We will definitely be staying again in the near future. Thank you, Tina for renting us this place. We met some new friends as well (Chris and Cindy). We had a great time talking to the both of you and will continue to keep in touch. I am looking for property as we speak in this AWESOME area! Once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

A Breath of Fresh Air
This cabin is literally a breath of fresh air. Set back in a wooded lot, the air smells like maple (or maybe that was my mind playing tricks on me) with a hint of wood smoke. Exactly like fall. We enjoyed sitting in the deck and just listening to the quiet. It was rejuvenating.
The property is exactly as described: comfy, romantic, well stocked in kitchen wares, and a commune with nature. The property owner is kind and helpful. Overall, an A+ experience. I can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful wilderness retreat
We spent the week in this beautiful, tastefully furnished and comfortable cabin nestled in the woods. Surrounded by lakes and mountains, we could hear loons from the cabin and coyotes yipping at night! We kayaked and hiked every day. If you enjoy the outdoors and a peaceful, serene setting, you will love visiting this area! The bed was super comfortable with a foam mattress topper and lots of pillows. The cabin was well appointed with everything you could need: books and games, appliances and cooking utensils, even paper and colored pencils. The owners are super friendly and very accommodating. We would definitely come back!!
