Was a nice clean cottage. Could use more hooks to hang clothes as there are no closets. Cutting a few trees would improve the view of the bay. Had the privilege of watching a bobcat outside the porch. Was nice. Saw deer too. Quiet was superb.

A beautiful and peaceful place on earth!
The cottage was wonderful just what we were looking for. James was wonderful and very helpful ,I was able to contact him and his response was great. There's a path that goes down to the water wear you can clam at low tide and fish at high tide .We saw some deer and numerous Turkey's on the property. If you are looking for a place to unwind and get back to nature but still have all your creature comforts this is the place for you! We can't wait to go back.

Remote, very small with oversized antique furniture
Very remote, on the water but not easy to access. This is a Get Away From It location so not many local tourist attractions which could be good or bad depending on what you are looking for. Large size furniture in a small house makes it feel cramped and difficult to move about. Nice deck with views of sunsets - but through trees. Property cluttered and should be cleaned up.

Bar Harbor Vacation
Upon arrival at the property we were very surprised/pleased with the view. As we entered the house the smell of moth balls was killer. Nice house at 1st, but after further exploration, we were a bit quiet. I found clothes in the drawer from a previous renter and the draws were sandy. After looking at the bed coverings, I wanted to head straight to the nearest store to buy sheets. The bed my son claimed had a sheet with a stain that looked like blood. Upon contacting the owner via email, he replied that the cleaners did not have sufficient time to clean up properly. That is inexcusable as the stain was very obvious and disgusting. A simple sheet, which should’ve been thrown out and replaced, 10 seconds max. I could not bring myself to sit on the sofa as it was very old and looked very dirty. Our goal was to find a location that's not very far from Bar Harbor, which is where we spent our days. The drive eventually became a hassle. We eventually cut our vacation short by (2) days due to expected rain. If the home was cleaner and more comfortable, we would’ve stayed. The home does have potential and the view is great with the wrap around balcony. Just get rid of all of the furniture, buy new ones and spend some money on new more updated bed sheets. I hate giving negative reviews, but I like to be comfortable on my vacation.

Disappointing!
No issues with the property itself - it is in the middle of a scenic wooded area and close to the water. However, the description is not accurate as the water is barely visible from the house (lots of trees) and it anyway recedes during the day with a low tide. We arrived earlier than the stated check-in time and were greeted rudely by the cleaner. The stay was not bad but we were shocked to see a hefty additional cleaning fee applied to our bill, which more than doubled the standard cleaning fee. The owner said this was due to the fact that the pots and pans were burnt. Yes, we did not clean those pans before we left but what else do you expect when there was no dishwasher and the quality of those pans was pretty sub-standard (really thin flimsy metal). We made sure all the garbage was in the garbage bag but the owner claims the house was left very dirty. We raised the issue with Vrbo customer service but they default to the owner’s side of the story - the onus of providing proof was on us (tell me who clicks pics of the house before they leave!). Moreover, the owner doesn’t live in the area so I guess the cleaners are cooking up stories and running a scam.

Nice property with waterfront view of the tidal cove
My family of four (kids ages 11 and 7) enjoyed our stay at this property. We appreciated the new kitchen and appliances, the three bedrooms with empty dressers that could organize our clothing, the provision of linens, and that our dog could be with us and enjoy the property. We had no (human) neighbors within sight or earshot—we saw deer, red squirrels, and—in the cove— a seal. There’s a path to walk down and sit by the water—very peaceful. The owner was responsive for any questions we had. Thanks for everything!

A disappointment that turned into a mess
I’ll start by saying that this is the first negative review I’ve ever had to leave & the first negative review ever given of me as a guest. I don’t enjoy leaving a negative review and grateful it’s been a rare experience.
First I’ll start with a few things I wish that I had known but wasn’t obvious in the pics:
1) The bedroom spaces are overly crowded with antique furniture. While they are beautiful pieces, they crowd the rooms so much that there is scarcely a place to put your suitcase. There really isn’t even much of a walkway.
2) The living space is similarly crowded with only a two seat sofa and a rocking chair that’s bottom is busted out it. There were six of us and it wasn’t possible to be in that space together.
3) The home has has blonde wood floors and black asphalt drive. Therefore, owner requests you not wear your shoes in the house. Fine for adults. Tricky for kids who aren’t use to that at home.
4) Ocean view is partially obstructed by trees. You need to go down a path off of drive to see it well.
Some of these may change but for our visit these were additional challenges:
1) We removed 25 moth balls from the inside of the house. Owner cited past negative experience w dead mouse in an appliance at a different property. Smell was overwhelming and gave us all headaches. I had to wash clothes I had laundered there to get rid of smell once we were home. It clung to our things.
2) no microwave - infant taking bottles so not ideal
3) Vaccum cleaner hardly worked at all. Mostly dumped dirt back out on floor.
4) Infant got his arm stuck in a glue trap that was under a console table. I couldn’t see it but he did. Thankfully it mostly stuck to his sleeper
5) Washer wasn’t draining and spinning properly
Those were some of the issues we had. When we arrived, I was very close to leaving and contacting VRBO for help due to the moth ball issue and the fact that it I could tell we’d be pretty uncomfortable. I actually cried, but we stayed.
The day we left was whirlwind. We were dealing with a family emergency. The owner has accused us of destroying his property. We did no such thing. We left the home messier than usual and I did tie back his curtains due to no other way to raise or open them. He claims this ruined them. My daughters scab bled on a set of sheets. He claims thus requires replacing rather than washing.
And much more. It’s beyond the pale.
Maybe you’ll have better luck but I regret our choice to stay.

Beautiful Area
The area is secluded and beautiful. We saw deer, rabbits, owls, and a few hawks. The location is perfect, with a grocery store and other amenities a short drive away. We had a minor issue, and James was quick to respond.
We were looking for something centrally located to see multiple things on the Maine coast, and this was perfect for us.

Perfect getaway
This property is the perfect place to get away from life and just enjoy nature. It is in the ideal spot with easy access to all of the state parks along the coast. The best part of this property are the sunrises and sunsets over the cove. The house was very clean and had all the necessities. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Private & Convenient to Everything
Lovely new property, waterfront view--fun to watch the seagulls walk on the bay at low tide--and to see the stars at night. The location was private and peaceful and still near to everything. Clean and comfortable--a great getaway!
