Stayed with our adult and teenage child for one night prior to departing Reykjavik. The location is excellent and my comments below are to provide additional information in most cases. I was glad I read some of the reviews to see that it was on the 4th floor, otherwise I wouldn’t have known. Parking was confusing for someone not particularly familiar with parking in this city. Maybe a recommendation and directions would be helpful? The apartment was renovated and really cute, but I don’t know that I’d recommend it for more than 1-2 nights, especially with more than 2 people. The grocery store is close. We did not use the kitchen so I can’t speak to that. The bathroom was small, as advertised. But, when we were there, it had a sulphur/sewage smell (we needed to keep the door closed). The shower curtain only had about half of the rings and was short, so water went everywhere. No soap, just shampoo and conditioner. We did teach out to property management as the door was open when we arrived and the code didn’t work. They got back to us in about an hour.

I have never left a negative review over the many years and properties we have stayed at. Unfortunately, we had a problem in the bathroom at this apartment and the management company was dismissive and brushed it off as “the way the water smells in Iceland.” We were very excited upon arrival at this property. The location is superb and the place was well decorated, spacious and seemed clean. My daughter opened the bathroom door and we all gagged at the smell that poured out. I immediately called the company to notify them and was told that when a place sits empty for a while the hot water needs to be run for 10 minutes. We ran it for 30 and that made it worse as the steam seeped into the whole apartment causing it all to smell (no ventilation in the bathroom.) I was in communication with the company for the whole next day trying to find a solution. We continued to be told that was the normal smell for the water. We have stayed in several rentals in Iceland and are aware of the sulfur smell of the water. This was not that! This smelled like sewage overflow or a dead animal. As much as we explained this to the company, they maintained that we were wrong and it was normal water smell. Beware of having a stinky time if you stay here.

We liked staying in your updated flat. The beds were very comfortable. Cooking was a challenge with the smoke detectors going off when simply cooking pasta. Installing a vent fan may help. We appreciated water kettle and convenience of the small kitchen but it would have been nice to have another pan perhaps a frying pan.It was very loud at night and seemed to lack insulation. Another issue was the amount of stairs. Back door entry was poorly presentable when entering the flat.

The place was clean and nicely done. Yet, it was very drafty and thus cold. Also the knives were dull and hard to use. There were no sauce pans or oven ware or spices besides salt. If you plan to use it for sleep that will work, but if you are going to make meals and rest when it is cold and windy, this is not the place for you.

The unit was very nice but there are issues they need to address that would make this a 5-star. The issues are straightforward to fix in my opinion and cost little to no money. First, I want to say that finding the entrance was a bit difficult. Better instruction should be given for the 4th-floor units. Also, 1st impressions are everything, the entrance is the trash area for the building and the ice cream shop. There was garbage littered everywhere when we got there and left. The owners should ask the cleaners to keep that area swept also. That would go a long way. The exterior parts were a bit dirty and needed work. Also, the kid's highchair and random items sitting right outside the apartment made it look cluttered. 2nd, there is no washer and dryer. That is falsely advertised. The washer and dryer are communal and, in the basement, 5 floors down. I didn't use it, so I can't comment other than I was a bit annoyed that we didn't have one easily available because I like to have fresh towels. 3rd, if you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you. It's 4 floors up and there is no elevator. 4th, they need a longer shower curtain. The shower curtain is short like 6 inches, so water got everywhere. No matter how hard I tried, water got all over the floor. The owner should get a glass enclosure or a longer curtain. Overall the unit was clean, and they gave you shampoo and conditioner. The sheets were clean as well as towels.

It's very cozy in there which we liked. Good location. Kind communication. We had a few issues during our stay - door code didn't work on arrival - bad toilet smell on second day - no chopping board, good knife - original internet didn't work (but they had a back up) - you had to fill out a form after booking which was a bit of a cuffufle. - The location of the storage room was unclear so we put it downstairs which then wasn't the right place and we needed a code to get back in. They had a lot of systems in place, but it seemed to not really flow. But they were quick to communicate and kind.

Apartment location was amazing. Walking up to the 4th floor was a blessing and a curse. Needed the workout after amazing dinners out. Bathroom was extremely cramped and only real downside.

The management team at Iðunn was communicative and easy to work with and helped immediately when there was a slight check in issue. The flat is in a perfect location in the heart of Reykjavik (walking distance to most everything). The place was lovely inside and met all our needs. A couple things to be aware of = The entrance seems sketchy, but ignore the trash / graffiti - its great inside. There are 4 flights of stairs, no elevator. This was no problem for us, but be aware. Yes, the water does smell and taste of sulfer. This is normal for Iceland. :-). And finally, the crowds are a bit boisterous on the weekends. If you are a light sleeper and in bed by 8 PM kind of person... We loved out stay. I highly recommend this team and flat.
