About this house rental
Nestled between the rugged snow capped Absaroka and Crazy mountain ranges and flanked by the Yellowstone River sits Livingston, Montana. A town of roughly 7,000 people with a disproportionate number of artists and writers, Livingston has the feel of the Old West. With Yellowstone National Park only an hour away, Livingston is a perfect basecamp for your southwest Montana vacation.
The Magpie was recently purchased by fly fishing enthusiasts from Nashville, Tennessee. The home was originally built in 1905 by railroad workers who used Livingston as a stepping stone to funnel visitors into Yellowstone National Park. The house has since been remodeled in 2014 and tastefully redecorated and refurnished in early 2020.
There are two bedrooms, one with a queen and the other with two twins as well as one full bathroom both upstairs and in the basement for a total of four bedrooms and 6 beds. There are no bedrooms on the main level making the house a perfect fit for two separate families, groups, or energy levels. The beds are outfitted with new Puffy mattresses and comfortable bedding. There are closets and dressers in each bedroom so guests can unpack suitcases and really get settled in.
There are two spacious living areas both with big screen TV's. The main floor living room shares an open space with the elegant dining room table and kitchen. The dining room table is large and can seat up to 8 guests. The coffee bar has a large one basin kitchen sink and counter space with a small window looking into the dining room. The kitchen is fully stocked with all plates, glassware, cooking utensils and appliances. Please note the cutlery is located in the drawer of the island butcher block.
There is a full powder bathroom off the kitchen leading to the landing to downstairs, the garage, or the back lawn and patio. Downstairs hosts a queen bedroom, double twin bedroom, laundry room the third full bathroom as well as a second living area.
The lawn is well kept and the stone patio is a refreshing place to have coffee, eat meals, play games, or relax in the privacy of the large fenced yard.

House set up nicely with everyone having their own private space. Many rooms to get away from others if needed. 3 full bathrooms was the big selling point for me - we were there for a wedding, and we needed our space to get ready! Kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, except found no dishwasher soap. The bed I was in (queen downstairs) was very comfy. One drawback: The window wells adjacent to the driveway were somewhat of a hazard, with no grates. I arrived during the day, so I saw window wells and knew to avoid them. However, if arriving at night, a person could have fallen into them when exiting their car. Thankfully, we had no mishaps. Although we had no one staying with accessibility issues, I think that VRBO website needs to show CLEARLY whether the house is handicap accessible. This house is not, with bedrooms accessible only via stairs, and I just could not find on website property info whether house is handicapped accessible or not. Maybe it is somehwere there, but I don't see it. Overall, a great place to stay for a family.

One of the best VRBOs I've rented. Love the house and convenient location to downtown Livingston.

We’ve stayed in Livingston before, but this is our new favorite place. We had 4 in our group, but could have had 8-10 with no space issues. Very roomy with everything we needed. Tanya was amazing to work with! We love to walk, and did so every morning to town for breakfast. Love 49 Diner, The Beanery and Pinky’s the best. Glenn’s and Neptunes are faves for lunch/dinner. Close to Yellowstone River and Park. We hope to be back same time next year.

Extremely affordable, charming, tastefully decorated, comfortable, spacious, well stocked, pristine and described accurately. The owner answered all of our questions within hours. Our group ranged from age 74 to 27 and everyone was pleased.

Livingston for a wedding
We had the best best time in Livingston!! The house was a great size for our group and had everything we needed! The location was quiet and and easy 10 min walk to downtown. The only tricky part was no AC but there were lots of fans and the basement was very cool so it was no worries. Great house would reccomend to anyone looking for a home in Livingston!

Hometown Parade
This property was cozy and clean. The location was in a beautiful neighborhood within walking distance of parks, shops and restaurants. My 90 year old parents did have a difficult time with all the stairs, but I LOVE it!

Your Go To Place in Livingston
This home is everything you want, except air conditioning. It is wonderfully updated with high quality finishes. It is located in a quiet neighborhood just off the main north/south highway in Livingston. It was an easy walk to the downtown center of the city. A wide variety of stores and dining venues filled the needs of our family. A 4 minute walk, put us on the banks of the senic Yellowstone River. The property manager was responsive to any questions. One of the best things we found was a family owned and operated restaurant located less than 2 blocks away. The Homemade Kitchen is a gem in the rough. The exterior is a corrugated steel facade, but inside is great service and food at a very reasonable price. You know you're in a great place when the locals outnumber the tourists.

House was great!

This house was just perfect for our stay over Christmas. It was cozy but had ample room to spread out for all five of us. There were nice little touches throughout the house as well. And Tanya was always there for us whenever we needed her or had a question. Would highly recommend!

Our party of 8 longtime college friends throughly enjoyed our stay here! There was plenty of room, even when a few others joined us for breakfast and dinner (we didn’t even use the family room in the basement)! Beds were very comfortable, rooms quiet, and the kitchen was well equipped.

Everything was perfect & as expected. We needed a place to stay while we visited Yellowstone. We wanted something a little closer yet the drive wasn’t bad at all (less than an hour). It was a gorgeous drive both sunrise & sunset. The house was well stocked with everything we needed to cook. The grill was brand new. It accommodated six adults comfortably. It does not have air which is typically not needed (record breaking heat during our stay) We weren’t home during the day & opened windows at night & it was lovely sleeping. Internet works well. The house is charming. The hosts are very responsive. We loved it!

This rental was perfect. Plenty of room for all of us and so close to downtown Livingston. It was very clean and had a wonderful feel. A/C would have been nice since we were there during an unusual warm spell. We would definitely book this rental again.

My wife and I stayed here with our 3 kids (ages 6-10). The house is very spacious; we stayed upstairs and allowed our kids to have the rooms in the basement all to themselves. The kitchen was equipped with everything we could possibly need. The owners have thought of it all! Great location; easy to bike or drive to downtown Livingston. We would definitely stay here again in the future!
