About this house rental
Looking to get away and see the fall foliage?
Watauga Lake area is an ever changing postcard with majestic views through smooth, winding roads. We took a hit from Helene, but after a few weeks many of the trees have been cleared and folks are beginning to resume their lives. Our communities are doing everything they can to help each other. A portion of your booking will go towards the Sugar Grove Babtist Church Hurricane Disaster Relief fund. Take your family or friends on a mountain adventure and escape the hustle & bustle of city life. Hike our 17 acres and see alpacas, deer, rabbits, wild turkeys, and an assortment of other creatures native to the Appalachian area.
Prepare your favorite meal from a well equipped kitchen and dine on the one of a kind "2000 mile table".
Choose one of 3 bedrooms and fall asleep in "serenity".
Complimentary Peets Keurig coffee.
For folks used to driving in the flat lands, this area will boost your driving credentials. Our cabin is at the top of a graveled and rather steep driveway. Four wheel drive is strongly recommended and for those in two wheel drive you'll need to get a good running start to make it up to the cabin.
We are an 8 minutes drive to the Watuaga Lake Winery (open year round). The cabin has a direct view of Nova Villa Vineyard, just a couple minutes away.
Centrally located between Mountain City, Johnson City, TN and Boone, NC.
A 45 minute drive to SkiBeech, an hour to Sugar Mountain, Appalachian Ski, or Bristol Motor Speedway.
Five minutes to the Watauga Lake Mercantile for grocery essentials or incidentals (open daily till 3pm). Stop for groceries in Boone or Mountain City on the way in, which are both about half hour away. There are also some staples in the pantry & frozen meals available.
We welcome trained pets treated with flee prevention for a $100 fee.

This lovely home provided our family with a wonderful place to stay. The view is spectacular! Everything you need is there. It is spotlessly clean, the bed are comfortable, and it is beautiful. Sun in the morning on the front porch, sun in the afternoon on the back porch.

We really enjoyed our stay! The pictures don’t do justice. It’s a beautiful cabin and was very clean! The beds are very comfortable. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to make our Thanksgiving meal. The fireplace was wonderful, we took a lot of walks on the beautiful property, watched the World Cup, and played games. We were so relaxed and comfortable we didn’t leave the cabin until it was time to checkout! The homemade pie from Lena, the housekeeper was very nice! Thank you for the wonderful stay!

From the minute we drove up the driveway my husband had a smile on his face during our stay here. The house, the views, wildlife, the privacy and our communication with Maxanne- this place was just what we needed for some R and R!! I felt like I was staying at a friend’s home - that’s how at home we were made to feel. Directions and helpful hints to all things in the area were available. We were even greeted with brownies and a lovely welcoming note! Thank You Maxanne for an awesome stay!!!

We definitely enjoyed the time we spent at this adorable cabin in the mountains. The view from the front porch was breathtaking. Enjoyed the peace and quiet with a view while drinking my morning coffee. Being from flat Florida, the twisty winding back roads to get there are a little nerve wracking at night, but it was worth the drive. The house sits on top of a hill with a pretty steep, long graveled driveway. I have an suv with two wheel drive and didn’t make it up the driveway on our first try. If you don’t have four wheel drive, you just need to get a good running start to make it up to the house. They also have additional parking at the bottom of the driveway which is nice. Upon arrival, they left us a pan of delicious freshly baked brownies. We unfortunately had to cut our stay short due to a family emergency, but we would definitely stay here again.

We stayed over Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time some spent visiting friends in TN, some relaxing, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching movies, and some hiking. This was a fabulous venue for it all. Communications with Maxanne about the rental were timely and informative. We felt immediately welcome like family when upon our arrival we found the housekeeper had made us a pie for the holiday! Overall we loved the place and would definitely recommend it!

Serenity
The views are stunning! Fall colors were at their peak. The cabin was a great place to unplug and enjoy the beauty around us. The local mercantile store has a great home cooked meal and is very close to the cabin. We look forward to returning.

If your goal is to explore Lake Watauga, TN, and surrounding areas, this is the place you want.
The home is beautiful and spotlessly clean. The view from the front porch where you WILL have your morning coffee is an ever changing postcard.
The location...secluded but easy striking distance to two marinas on the lake where you can and should rent a pontoon boat for a day.
You ate within an hour of Grandfather Mountain (awesome hiking and visitor center- don't miss it), Culver's gap where you can hike the appalachain trail and take in amazing vistas, ziplining, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, wineries, Boone, NC for walkable shopping in a college town, Banner Elk for higher end dining and a mountain coasters etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.
The cabin is far enough from everything and everyone to where you will feel like you are away from it all, but close enough to so many activities it isn't even funny.
The mercantile around the corner was being renovated when we were there, but there is a Dollar General less than 15 minutes away that has all of the basics as far as food etc. Real grocery stores are a but farther, but you can hit them on your way back from day trips to enjoy the area. You'll spend some time in the car going to and from your daily activities, but the miles are on gorgeous, windy country roads with views and wildlife and the time spent behind the wheel is a pleasure.
Maxanne was fantastic to deal with, and the cabin awaits you with everything you need to feel like home.
We couldn't have possibly enjoyed the house, the area and the rental experience more.
Checkout requirements were the easiest we've ever experienced with VRBO.
If you seek a beautiful inside and outside, clean, spacious and well appointed home as your base for enjoying all that this area of Tennessee and NC has to offer, look no further.
15 out of 10 in every way. Maybe 20 out of 10 when that morning coffee view of the valley (that you can see from just about everywhere inside the house too) is factored in, because pictures just don't do it any justice at all!

We had a wonderful time unwinding and exploring!
We loved our stay on these amazing 17 acres. The property was exactly as it was advertised - plenty of space for our family of five and our dogs. The house is well furnished with everything we needed from kitchen supplies and equipment to linens and bath towels.
Our host, Maxanne, was helpful in the planning of our vacation...full of recommendations and helpful hints. She was extremely responsive to our planning questions and made checkin and checkout very easy.
We explored the property as well as did day trips to Bristol, TN, Boone, NC and locally around Watuaga Lake. We would come back in a heartbeat as we made wonderful memories!

Great stay!
This place is wonderful, clean and comfortable. The owner was great to work with and very helpful. The view from the deck is beautiful, but the entire area around Lake Watauga offers stunning scenery. We will be back.

Upon our arrival, we found a big tray of chocolate chip cookies and my favorite, macadamia nut cookies waiting for us. They were delicious. They didn’t last long. Lol. The cabin is beautiful and roomy. We loved the views overlooking a winery, farms and pastures. We loved seeing all the deer on the property on a daily basis. My wife and I enjoyed our morning walks following the driveways throughout the property. This in my opinion is the perfect cabin and location. It’s a short 25 minute drive to Mountain City for groceries and stuff but the drive is beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay. Maxanne always responded quickly to any of our questions. She is a pleasure to rent from. We really enjoyed our stay

The house is amazing! Cleanest rental I’ve ever stayed in. The view is stunning! We rented this house for a long weekend destination wedding at a nearby resort. We had five adults and more than enough room. I would love to stay here again! The location is a bit secluded so be prepared to drive up and down twisting roads awhile to get anywhere. But that’s part of the fun too!

This is a great central location to explore the surrounding area; Watauga Lake, Blowing Rock, Abingdon, etc... The cabin is very large and has both a spacious front and back deck. Great for relaxing and watching the fire flies sparkle in the trees. The bonus of the waterfall makes for a very relaxing stay at this cabin in the woods.

Beautifully landscaped. Kitchen well stocked. Beds comfortable, plenty of room. Only disappointments were excitement over Jacuzzi tub only to find out it did not work. Only other problem would not have been a problem if we had known in advance groceries were 45 minutes away.
