There were ants all around the sink and the cabinets were falling apart. We also couldn’t use the deck much because it reeked of cigarette smoke from above our room.

Such a great location! Other than the stove being out of order (which was communicated by property manager shortly before we arrived, they did provide a hot plate so we could boil water, etc) this unit worked well for us. Would definitely come back!
3.8
We had a few problems but property manager worked them out quickly.

Great little place, just as listed, with the best view of a beautiful beach. Woke up every morning to spotting sea turtles swimming in the crystal clear water. The area is quieter, not tons around, but that was exactly what we were looking for. Great ocean swims, great pool and hot tub and some good walks close by, like out to Pillbox Point. We rented a car while here which was perfect. The place is a little more dated but is exactly as the pictures show. It was super clean and had a really comfy bed. Also, sleeping to hearing the sounds of the waves was perfect.
We loved our time here.
3.8
The stay was good, the beach beautiful, the condo small and dated but good.
The disappointing part was the responsiveness of the management company staff, the accuracy of information provided (especially directions to the condo) the cleanliness of the condo, the basic cleaning supplies provided for such a short stay(5 days).
VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.

The views were breath taking, loved the privacy of it all. Easy access to beach, free parking!! Such a gem on the country side of the island for sure!!!

So the view was amazing. You could sit out on the patio on the 10th floor and see a beautiful view of the ocean. it was clean. However, not the greatest area of town on the island. Probably would’ve stayed somewhere a little better. Two burners on the stove didn’t work, the dishwasher didn’t work the outlet in the bathroom only one plug worked so if two plugs were needed, we had to use the plug in the kitchen. We did notify the manager who was going to get on the repairs, but they weren’t done by the time we left. The carpet in the bedroom going in had unraveled from the threshold .However, they did give us a credit for the inconvenience. So for the price we paid per night plus all the fees, I feel like we could’ve done a lot better because we have done better on all of the islands when we stayed. The reviews pretty much said that there were things that needed to be done but we assumed that the owner would’ve taken care of that by the time we were renting it.

Amazing views. Very quite and peaceful. Looking forward to coming back.

Wonderful location. Cloths drier starting button was almost at the Celling. We had to get a step stool to start the drier.
3.8
Amazing views! I read some bad reviews but frankly I don’t know why. This place is amazing. Very homey and has everything you need. I was pleasantly surprised. Saw turtles and did some noodle surfing. Woke up to the sounds of the waves and saw the sunset every evening. Everyone was extremely nice. Property management was great and good to work with. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will come here again most definitely. Kim and Fred

Run down, poorly furnished. Not comfortable. However, the views were beautiful, and beach towels and chairs were furnished.
3.8
Although there were a few items in need of repair, the front door was hard to shut and lock and the bedroom was missing a carpet strip so if you didn't step over it you could get a tack in the foot, the condo was nicel and clean. The view is beautiful and we throughly enjoyed our stay. Will be back

It was wonderful to wake to the beautiful view of the beach & ocean each morning. We could see whales & turtles every morning as we sat on the lanai. However, the rest of the condo leaves a lot to be desired. It is very run down & could use a little TLC & a lot of fixes & updating.
3.8
The beach location was wonderful, however the unit could really use updating.

We have visited the Hawaiian Princess many times over the years and were very disappointed in our condo this time. The night we arrived all the kitchen lights were out except one flickering fluorescent light. The floor lamp in the living room and the table lamps in the bedroom were very dim, about the light of a nightlight. We had to unpack and cook by flashlight. I texted the owner and property manager in the morning. That day someone came by and replaced the bulb in the range hood. The next day someone came by to see what we needed in order to replace the lights. The third day they came by to replace the lights and discovered the ballast was bad. On the 4th day we finally had light.
Other problems
The screen door was off the track and if fixed didn't last, hard to open and close doors to lanai.
The sink in the bathroom was badly cracked and glued together.
The screws in the transition pieces throughout the condo were sticking up - not safe to be barefoot.
No plug or strainer in bathroom sink
The bathroom towels were small, stiff and had bleach spots.
The faucet in the bathroom had to be turned off with a screwdriver or it would run constantly.
The tile on the lanai was cracked and loose.
Only 3 of the 4 burners on the stove worked.
Note - even though the information in the condo had the owner listed as a contact and after everything we went through, we never heard from her.
I would recommend the Hawaiian Princess to anyone but not this owner.

It’s a aways from downtown Honolulu, but it gives good options to see the sites around the island. Although this building is old, and the unit is somewhat dated, it still retains good value and a good character. Beach access was phenomenal, the staff was exceptional, friendly and helpful at any hour. The only negative vibe I had was with the some of the full time residences that lived there, which I can understand. So l guess the question is would I book there again. Yes!

Nice property with great beach/tidepool area and gated parking a few miles from the Army resort. A good alternative as you can drive a few miles down the road to eat at the Beach House or go north along the coast. There is also a harbor and several nice local restaurants nearby.

My husband and I are from San Diego and we stayed in this place in the Hawaiian Princess for 6 nights. To say we loved it is an understatement. It is super quiet and private. There were literally at the most 15 people on the beach but a lot of time just a handful. If you are looking for a quiet and super mellow place to say at away from a lot of tourist and not in a big town/city and you are ok with driving an hour to two hours to go to the north shore or to Honolulu then this is the place to for you. We are going to miss it.

Can’t get a better view and beach in Makaha than this property right on Papaoneone beach! Please do your research however if you are coming to this side of the island. Best beaches on all of Oahu but that comes with a few things to consider when coming. Not at all a problem for me. My family loves it here! We come year after year!

Great view , great beach, unit was a little dated but overall good value for what I was looking for

Very outdated unit, stove is made in 1973, cracked and glued together sink, old carpet is disgusting, headboard is not connected to the bed, doors on the balcony fallen apart. I would not recommend to stay in this particular unit, our friends stayed in the same property much nicer updated unit for the same cost

This property is ridiculously outdated and dreary. The microwave and coffee maker were at least 30 years old. The stove was even older and we were afraid to use it with tin foil under the electric burners. Washing machine top was glued together. Bathroom sink had multiple unsightly cracks and faucet handle was dirty and balky. Carpet was soiled and walls desperately need painting. Sliding screen doors to deck will not stay on tracks, glass doors will not lock, and deck furniture rusted and uncomfortable. Local area depressing: one decent restaurant within 20 miles, neighborhood roosters crowing at 3 am, substantial homeless population. We chose to leave 2 days early. Owner is clearing milking property for every last cent of worth. Beach is very nice and perfect sunset views.

It breaks my heart to see a vacation rental in this disarray, fully knowing that if the property owners/managers invested even the tiniest effort and a few dollars it could easily be a 4 or 5 star property. Everything you read in the reviews is true; the unit is extremely dated and it's sad that the owners/managers haven't taken the time to address it. The washing machine sounds like a propeller plane and barely works, the oven only partially works, and along with these two appliances they should spend a couple thousand dollars to upgrade all the appliances in the unit; I'm certain they'd see an ROI on the energy savings alone. We stayed in the "winter," so luckily the lack of AC wasn't an issue and the fans helped circulate the air well enough. There was no welcome packet that explained how to access wifi, use the TV, contains general rules and perhaps even some local recommendations -- we had to call the property manager, and she answered the phone already knowing what we were calling about; we're clearly not the first guests to run into this issue and if they had a piece of paper with these instructions it'd save everyone the hassle. The building is just as dated as the unit, the call box wasn't working and it was a slight challenge to get in initially but easily overcome.
The area is in an extremely impoverished part of the island and fairly remote (93 does not connect to north). This results in not many stores/shops/restaurants (certainly none of quality) near by, a homeless population in the area is rampant, and there is considerable traffic if you want to leave the area (takes an hour to get to the Honolulu area, and 2+ hours to get North or East) which you may want to do as the snorkling, beaches and hikes in this area are subpar compared to that in other parts of this island.
The best part of the area, and property, is the westward facing sunset views. We didn't see many turtles, but we saw plenty of whales every evening. The views from the unit are truly spectacular (with the exception of the homeless tents which are an eyesore and terrorize the view).
I will not be staying at this property again, nor will I likely be staying in O'ahu again -- every other island I've visited I've found significantly better. The only reason I'd ever recommend staying here (this part of the island) is if you wanted a remote getaway, but unfortunately the condition of this specific property isn't akin to accommodate said getaway.

It is the location that makes this place amazing. The view of Makaha Bay from the 10th floor is breathtaking. The apartment could use a refresh as it looks like it has not had new appliances, cabinets, and many furnishings since the early eighties.

Overall we were happy with our stay mostly because of the location and view. Check in process was through email instructions - easy. The condo has a spectacular view as pictured - maybe even better. You can see turtles and fish from the balcony and there is a perfect snorkelling right in front and perfect sunsets. But the condo itself is super old, stains on the carpet all over and the sleeping sofa in the living room is in terrible condition as well. Looks like it has never been updated since 1980 when the complex was built. And there were big waves in front all the time not suitable for young children. Considering the price we may be back only giving 4 stars because of the condition of the place.

Probably the worst rental unit I’ve stayed in.
The good. The view and beach. Lovely although many homeless population camps close by. It is absolutely beautiful looking down and seeing the sea turtles swim. The sunsets were amazing. The bed was reasonably comfortable. TV is pretty new with good cable. Kitchen had decent cooking/eating utensils & dishes and pots & pans and there were bottles of water in the fridge.
The bad & ugly. Dryer door wouldn’t latch closed so dryer couldn’t be used. Washer sounded like a rocket taking off (NOT an exaggeration). Microwave and all appliances aren’t just old they are ancient. Another review said all appliances were new…..NOT IN THIS UNIT!!!! Everything in this unit is worn badly. Carpet and drapes are stained and look dirty. Parts of carpet are coming up. Closet doors don’t work well.
The worst. The air conditioning makes it tolerable after having it running about 12 hours, but it never really gets cool or comfortable. We wondered why there were 4 big fans in a small 1 bedroom unit. Not only do you need them since the a/c is not efficient but they help dry clothes since the dryer doesn’t work.
Unfortunately I would not recommend and I would not rent again. I don’t like to write bad reviews but the other reviews did not paint an accurate picture of this unit. Sadly I based my rental on those reviews. If you only care about the beach and view, this is a choice to consider.
