123 year old charmer! You will love this 9 bedroom/ 10 bathroom stone mansion crown jewel of The Englewood Arts District in Independence, MO. It was the 1st house in the area and still standing proudly on almost 2 beautiful acres. Are you a Chiefs or Royals fan? Well if so, you will be so close to the stadiums if you stay at “ The Hawthorne “. It has been refurbished but still has the fun creaks in the floor and old character charm of a historical home while being beautifully furnished for your family to comfortably enjoy and spread out. It’s over 7,000 sq feet with a fully stocked commercial kitchen complete with 3 dishwashers. The commercial sink will actually have your children wanting to do the dishes. There’s a game room garage that has a pop a shot, ping pong table, shuffleboard, a multicade video game ( has 60 different popular games), exercise bike, darts, TV etc , billiards room with CD jukebox, lots of board games, bee themed tea room, several smart TV’s and a baby grand piano. For the couple who wants to really get away from the crowd there is also a newer addition apartment complete with all necessities and an office work space if you need that quiet time to work. We do have a high chair, pack and play, a crib and a mini bedside crib for the little ones in your crew.
We have a large circle drive that could accommodate approximately 10 cars.
Please let me know before your arrival or during your stay if you have any questions. We love communication and want to help make your stay as wonderful as it can be.
Cute older neighborhood with the upcoming Englewood Arts District just down the road. Make sure to make a reservation for Vivilore restaurant nearby. It’s amazing food and an adorable shop! The town square of Independence is about 2 miles away. So many neat restaurants and shops there too!
We do have a fire suppression system (commercial grade) throughout the home. Please let your kids know about the fire equipment and to please not pull the alarms or throw balls or anything in the house. If one breaks it would set off the water sprinklers inside causing damage.
This is a very old house. Built in 1900 so outlets are rare and light switches may be high on walls or just odd in general. Please understand the nature of an old house and give grace to any flaws or noises it may have. The paint isn’t perfect, the floors may creek and slope in places etc. it’s not a perfect house by any means but hopefully it’s perfect for your family to enjoy and make memories in. We love it and love the charm of old houses. We hope you do too! Please see the notebook I have made for more tips and tricks about the house. PARTIES OR EVENTS NOT ALLOWED. MAX OCCUPANCY 20. NO SMOKING. MAX CARS 10, NO 3RD PARTY BOOKINGS. ID MUST MATCH BOOKING INFORMATION.

Our large group, consisting of 14 adults, had plenty of space, activities, comfortable beds and were happy with the on-suite bathrooms. There were those who enjoyed playing the piano, shooting pool, and putting on the green. We took in many of the historical sites in and near Independence and had an enjoyable reunion.

We had a great stay! Everything was as described in the listing. Pamela was so easy to communicate with and responded immediately to any question. Perfect for a family reunion….everyone had their own bathroom, great gathering spots throughout the house, commercial kitchen, and a garage full of entertainment. Highly recommend!!

We had a great time! The house was very family friendly. We had plenty of room and everything we needed. The game room was a hit with everyone. We also loved the outdoor space, the kids had a great time. The kitchen was lovely to cook in for a large group. The location was great, with easy access to KC attractions. Pam was a wonderful host - communication was great and she was super accommodating. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again.

Our extended family (20 of us) enjoyed a great stay at The Hawthorne. Firstly, it was clean and comfortable. The various common rooms made it easy to gather in groups big and small. And we made full use of the game room and fun outdoor spaces (mini golf, basketball, carts & scooters — all ages enjoyed our stay). Having 9 bedrooms with full baths in every bedroom but one was a real plus and made life so simple for such a big group (we gathered to celebrate my moms 90th birthday and everyone could get ready at the same time). Pam is an excellent, kind and responsive host. We would definitely stay again.

I will highly recommend this house. We had 16 people and everyone had room to spread out. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. The kitchen is amazing, the garage is full of stuff to do and the yard was more than big enough.

We entertain a group of friends and customers each year when the Chiefs play the Broncos. This year the game was on New Years day so we needed a big house to celebrate the holiday and the game! This house did not disappoint! Plenty of rooms with their own bathrooms. Large spaces for entertaining and the weather was perfect!

This house is huge, like really really huge, our boys had so much fun they couldn't wait to get back from our games. It was so exciting looking at all the difrent rooms, shooting pool, shooting hoops, ping pong, even practicing on the putting green, has a ice machine so u never run out of ice, large kitchen, and even a few area with smaller microwave and sinks. If you have a large group this is the home to get!

Awesome property for my huge family for a wedding in Kansas City. The place was not cleaned well but they did let me in early so that was more important to me than the vacuuming wasn’t done. Bathrooms and beds clean. Just needed vacuumed and surface areas in some rooms cleaned. Stocked well. Fun activities to do in house and garage. Private bathrooms. It really was perfect!!!

We had an outstanding stay for a 3 day weekend. The owner/manager was so helpful and easy to communicate with. Everything was well stocked and the play areas including the splash pad and backyard fun "route 66" and play houses were perfect for our grandchildren. I love the updated "apartment" above the garage and so many entertainment "extras'" including the baby grand piano, arcade games in the garage, multicade games. All wonderful when you have grandchildren ranging in age 10 mos - 13 years. We never had to leave the home. Owners thought of everything! Looking forward to staying here again. (Oh, and the rich history--- so interesting)

This house is everything it's billed as. It is enormous, beautiful, well maintained and extremely clean. We had a full slate of activities lined up for our visit and actually regretted we hadn't devoted a full day just to utilizing all the amenities of the house. In short, we loved our time there and had an absolute blast. It looked like more improvements and activities were being added on the day we were checking out too. I can't wait to see what all they had and my family and I will definitely be back. Pam was an extremely gracious host and very quick to respond to any communication. As we were there celebrating my wife's birthday, she even left a nice card and birthday hat with some decorations.
A personal recommendation for others, when it got dark we turned out most of the lights and played hide and go seek in the dark utilizing glow sticks that we had brought along. Both the kids and adults of all ages absolutely loved it :-)

I can not say enough good things about the owner and this property. We were In Kanas City for my nieces wedding with family members from 4 different states. This AMAZING home fit all 20 of us with plenty of room. The teens loved the game room and the adults seemed to congregate in the kitchen. The bride loved it so much that all the bridesmaids came over and used the sun room for getting ready.
Pamela was wonderful to work with. She answered all of my many questions in a timely manner. I can’t think of anything that I would change. An Absolutely clean and beautiful home, no complaints from anyone in this big family.

Fabulous, Fantastic, Fun
On a scale of 1-10 this is at least an 11. The entire experience worked perfect. For a large group, we had 15, ages 4-78, it was as perfect as a house could be. Easy check in, everything worked, house was well stocked with essentials, a kitchen to die for, lots of activities for kids of all ages! Highly recommended.
