About this cabin rental
Lantern Shores is the perfect lakefront cabin located on George's Pond. If you’re looking to get away, disconnect and get into nature, it has everything you could want for a quiet, peaceful Maine vacation. Its rustic ambiance has all of the modern-day amenities without sacrificing the experience. It is lake life at its best! Whether you like to swim, fish, kayak, paddleboard, or just fall asleep listening to the loons sing and awaken to the sunrise watching eagles and osprey feed on the lake, this is where it's at. This cabin is nestled on George's Pond which is a 380-acre spring-fed lake surrounded by glimpses of Schoodic Mountain. This cabin sleeps 8 (king master bed, 2 twin beds, double bed in the loft, and 2 twin beds in the garage loft). We are minutes to Schoodic Mountain and Schoodic Beach which is a great place to hike and swim or have a picnic on Donnell’s Pond. Schoodic’s summit is flat with 360-degree breathtaking views over Frenchman Bay and Mount Desert Island. The Downeast Sunrise Trail is a revamped railway with miles of trail for biking, hiking, ATV, or walking (see website for more information) just 5 minutes from the cabin. Schoodic Head is 30 minutes towards Winter Harbor and also part of Acadia National Park. There you will find beautiful hikes, a cute harbor town, great ice cream and see some more of beautiful Maine. The cabin is 40 minutes to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park, known as the North Atlantic crown jewel, protects some of the most beautiful and highest rocky coastline. You can hike, mountain bike, shop the island boutiques, dine in Bar Harbor restaurants, go on a whale watch or grab a delicious homemade ice cream cone. You can also play golf at the famous Kebo Valley course. Adventure awaits! On your way home, stop and pick blueberries and make a cobbler or relax on the screen porch. This rare screen porch is sure to relax you and is the perfect place to start the day with a cup of coffee or to take an afternoon nap. We provide kayaks and life vests. There are multiple local bikes, kayaks, and boat rentals available. Acadia is a must-see but George's Pond is where the memories are made!

We loved our stay at lantern shores! The cabin was clean, well stocked with anything you may need, and had a stunning view! The owner was very responsive and met all of our needs. And don’t forget to get a fresh baked blueberry pie from Amy!

Property is as pictured. Very well-kept and comfortably furnished cottage. Kitchen and bath look recently remodeled. Access to lake from dock or shore. Nice antique working wood stove kept it cozy on cooler evenings. There is also a wall mounted heater which works well. Bed in main bedroom is comfortable, did not use other bedrooms so can’t comment on that. Owner is responsive to questions and very helpful. Used the gas grill which worked well. Easy drive to Mt. Desert Island, also several good nearby hikes. Would definitely return.

The cottage ‘Lantern Shores’ worked beautifully for us! We had 2 couples over the first few days and the last half of the week we had all to ourselves. We practically lived on this comfortable screened porch, right on the waters edge, while relaxing and listening to the loons. We kayaked daily, and found the lake to be surprisingly quiet and peaceful for the last week before Labor Day. The cottage and guest house were comfortable and NICELY appointed. The scent of pine paneling brought back memories of the perfect Maine camp from summers past. Schoodic Penninsula was a breeze to get to, and after Hurricane Franklin, the crashing waves were exhilarating at a safe distance. Danielle was a delight and made communication easy. She helped us arrange 2 Maine blueberry pies baked and delivered after arrival by her neighbor. An amazing way to begin our memorable week in Maine. We highly recommend treating yourselves to Lantern Shores on George’s Pond!

My family had a great week on the lake. The cabin is just perfect! Danielle is very responsive and gave us lots of suggestions on where to eat and things to do. The lake is absolutely beautiful! It was nice to come back to after venturing off each day. My teens loved the rock with diving board. We got a lot of use out of the kayaks and bonfire. Loved hearing the loons every day and stargazing at night. The location is close to plenty of activities to keep you busy. Make sure you order a pie from Amy at Flour Power Bakery. She brings it right to you and they are delicious. My kids loved it so much I ordered 2 of them!

A classic Maine experience.

If you enjoy quiet serene Maine mornings with loons singing on a lake, this is the cabin for you! Screened porch with full water view and all the lovely sounds that accompany. The cabin has all the comfort amenities you need to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of busy life. My husband and I cooked many meals in the cozy kitchen, relaxed on the porch morning and evening, and sat around the fire after a long day of exploring Acadia and Schoodic. Thank you, Danielle for sharing your family’s cabin.

I thought we were crazy wanting to come in the end of October, and even though we missed out on some activities due to closures, it was perfect. Acadia was still pretty busy for late Fall hiking, but the views were breathtaking. Donnell Pond area was a different type of hike, but SO worth it. It's hard to pick a favorite. We tried several restaurants/diners and found the places we ate at out of the public limelight were much tastier. The lodge was nestled quietly in the back away from traffic and most people and an amazing view of the lake. It was cozy and well decorated, and had all the necessary needs. It was more cold than I expected and very thankful for the fireplace. It put out enough heat in the main room and there were plenty of extra blankets around to layer on the bed to keep warm. I loved that there wasn't a TV to get lost into, and made us focus on each other. Of course, we hiked all day and had dinner afterward, so by the time we settled in we were beat. We attempted to take the kayak out, but my boyfriend didn't realize there was an anchor attached to it and after dragging in the lake for 10mins I was fed up and requested to just be brought back to shore. That was when he noticed the anchor, and the moment I will never let him forget it, lol. The shower water was very cool and made for quick rinses, so maybe an instant heater for it would be beneficial in the future. We can't thank you enough for the fantastic time we had. We really needed this down time away from our 'real life' back home. We were so sad to leave, but already planning our next visit. Well done on your first year of rentals!

The property was even more beautiful in person than the pictures. Gorgeous fall foliage on the trees, haunting loons on the beautiful lake (pond), and a short drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia made this a wonderful getaway week. Beautifully and comfortably furnished, the porch was spectacular, and mornings on the dock were very peaceful. I would absolutely love to come back to this location again, preferably in warmer weather so we could enjoy swimming and kayaking.

Lantern Shores is a wonderful, relaxing place with a great dock for morning coffee and evening wine! It’s location has plenty of activities to draw you away, but always a welcome return at the end of the day. The porch overlooking the lake is a comfortable escape from the sun or rain.
Acadia is an easy distance and we found some great local trails without the crowds.
We would not hesitate to rebook if traveling back to the area.

We loved our stay in this cozy cabin! It was far enough away from things to be quiet and relaxing, but close enough to Acadia and other hikes. Especially loved the screened porch and the beautiful, clear night sky! Would love to stay here again!

We had an absolutely wonderful week at Lantern Shores. The entire place is beautifully decorated, yet incredibly comfortable — and just about everything you could possibly need is provided.
The screened in back porch was our favorite place to be. It's perfect because you can sit inside and be comfortable while still keeping an eye on the kids, as they play in the pond (which is really more like a lake). The water near the house is shallow, so it's ideal for little ones. It was so incredibly peaceful listening to the loons and the water and even on the weekends, it was rare to see more than two boats or a couple of kayakers. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was! We visited super bustling Bar Harbor and Acadia on our trip and while they were nice — we couldn't wait to get back to relax. We used the kayaks, visited the diving rock, and climbed Schoodic Mountain (which was a great hike with a lovely beach/swim at the end) - we're already hoping to come back again next summer!

This was the perfect place for us to spend a week in Downeast Maine. Close enough for day trips to Acadia yet secluded from the crowds in Bar Harbor. Ellsworth is close by for grocery runs and the cabin was well equipped to do our own cooking. The loft in the detached garage bedroom with its own bathroom gave us plenty of space for our group so we did not feel on top of each other 24/7. I recommend using the kayaks to paddle the lake, especially at sunset. The lack of light pollution in the area allowed for views of the milky way from the dock on clear nights. Definitely would stay again. Our only regret is that we didn’t spend enough time in the cabin or on the lake!

The camp was very nice and comfy. It had everything we needed. The little room over the garage was great for my parents to have some privacy. My kids loved fishing from the dock. Unfortunately the pond has had an algae bloom and was pretty mucky. We went to same pond a year before and the water on was so much clearer. The neighbors were very friendly, including their kids and pets wanting to come right in which the previous owner had allowed. Understandable with a fairly new owner but a bit challenging for privacy.

Peaceful Stay on the Pond
Our family time spent at Lantern Shores was very quiet and peaceful. The house had everything that we needed to be comfortable. We all enjoyed out time relaxing on the porch, sunning on the deck, kayaking the pond and diving off the diving rock. The house is a bit of a drive to Acadia National Park about 45-50 minutes.

Heaven in Maine
Perfection. Crystal clear water, newly redone, and very well-appointed cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed the large screened-in porch that kept the breezes moving through the house, and the family relaxed at the water's edge.
The pond is 360+ acres to travel in kayaks or by boat.

Perfect Lake Cabin as base camp
We had a wonderful time at the cabin and it was in a perfect location for day trips to Acadia and other points of interest. Ellsworth is close enough for grocery runs and restaurants. (Try the homemade pies at Helen's and Ruth & Wimpy's!)
Unfortunately the weather had turned colder, so we didn't get to enjoy the screened porch or kayaking as we had hoped. But there was plenty to do to keep us busy every day. The loons (and an otter) entertained us at the lakefront and the cabin had everything we needed.
