About this house rental
Our waterfront home is located on the tidal bay called Taunton Bay and Mill Brook. The house is a great blend of a traditional Downeast farmhouse with modern amenities. Wasgatt Point, or as we call it, "the point", is a short walk down the driveway to watch the sunrise, admire Schoodic and Cadillac Mountains or pick blueberries when in season. See osprey, eagles and other wildlife from the kitchen table. In the month of May, watch the Alewives, a type of fish, make their way up the brook to spawn which brings lots of action to the water. Bring your kayaks to explore the bay where you may see seals or your bikes to explore Acadia and The Downeast Sunrise Trail. Trail parking is only a couple miles away where you can unload your ATV's and travel downeast. We are 10 miles from Ellsworth, 26 miles to Bar Harbor, 20 miles to Winter Harbor, the Schoodic Peninsula portion of Acadia National Park and 38 miles from Bangor.

Great property. Lots of outdoor space along the water for kids to explore. We enjoyed using the kayaks. Served as a great home base for checking out Acadia. House had all basic amenities available.

Enjoyed the shoreline with lots of nature. Also enough property to have space inside and out.

This was a really nice place to stay with my dog. We loved the house and it was not far from Acadia. The area itself is gorgeous

We found Harmon Homestead to be an excellent and unique location to base our stay in Maine. The older home has some quirky spaces but has been updated with fresh paint, new windows, new appliances and shower, modern comfortable couches, wifi, etc. I enjoyed the antique items hung in the dining room and kitchen (great history lesson for the kids on what the old kitchen tools and other items were used for) as well as lovely watercolor artwork around the home. The outdoor space was pleasant and the walks to the point were a fun bonus. Our favorite part was probably watching the birds come and go with the tides as we ate in the dining room. Good kitchen supplies, plenty of linens, and the whole house was spotless.

My husband & I spent 10 days at Harmon House and would have loved to have stayed longer. We’ve vacationed in Maine quite a bit and Franklin is a great location. It’s removed from the tourist traps and craziness of Bar Harbor and Acadia, yet close enough to go there when you want. We went to Acadia only twice as there are so many great hiking options and things to do near Franklin and surrounding areas. The house itself is perfect. It’s bigger than it appears in the photos and is charming and homey and had everything we needed. The setting is beautiful with the bay just steps away. We had our coffee at the picnic table every morning. A perfect way to start the day. Our last day was spent kayaking there where my husband paddled with a little seal friend swimming along. Denise is an awesome host and it’s clear why she’s premiere. She’s responsive, knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Thank you again Denise! We will be back.

Our family stayed at this beautiful farmhouse on the bay for a perfect summer week. We spent time doing day trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Plenty to do around the house. We rented a kayak witch was a great time exploring the bay. There were plenty of dining options locally as well. This is a great place for a family vacation.

This was a fantastic home enjoyed by our family. Having spent many summers at Mount Desert Island, I now prefer this location as it is as accessible to Winter Harbor/Acadia as it is to MDI Acadia/Bar Harbor, giving us a choice if we wanted to avoid the crowds of the latter. And when we did go to Acadia/Bar Harbor, it was wonderful to have this quiet, relaxing retreat to come home to. The view from the house was incredible and the short walk to the point was even better. The adorable farmhouse style home was wonderfully furnished and decorated with antique furniture and homey accessories. The beds were comfortable and the house had everything we needed. Denise was a marvelous host and communicated promptly. Our favorite memories will be sitting around the fire at dusk watching the water and spotting birds as the sun sets. We are already taking about our next trip and can't wait to stay there again.

My family of 3 and our dog loved our stay at Denise’s property. Our favorite room in the house was the kitchen sun room where we enjoyed taking in the beautiful views over breakfast, and playing board games after dinner. We walked out to the point every evening — such a special place! This was our first Maine vacation, and we will definitely be back.

Maine Gem
Our hostess was so helpful and communicative from booking to checkout. She welcomed us with an amazing gift basket to kick off our vacation, and we polished off everything over the duration of our stay! The photos don't do the property justice. It is so beautiful here. And the house is spacious and cozy. The location was convenient to every place we wanted to explore as well. It was a wonderful stay!

Idyllic setting
The setting here is idyllic, a word I don't use often. Situated on a small cover in Acadia dotted with clam boats, roaming flocks of ducks, herons, and other sea birds, it is an ideal retreat. Very relaxing and easy to let the time slip by.
This is the proverbial "grandma's house" - an actual homestead that has obviously evolved over the years.. You can imagine generations of the family coming for holidays and related gatherings. This is reflected in the décor (the wall with the growth lines of the children and extended family over the years is a nice touch) There are quirks of age in the layout, but we found them charming and they gave a sense of place and historical ambiance.
We enjoyed the quiet as well. There are a few neighbors but they were friendly and unobtrusive. One drawback of this remoteness is that most anything you would like to see tourist wise is minimum 30 minutes out - Acadia national park is about 40 minutes out. Be prepared to do some driving, but we found the location and sense of place well worth the investment.
We will likely return next summer!
A side note on the owner, who was very helpful and responsive addressing a problem with the freezer/refrigerator unit early in the stay. She seems very communicative and friendly.

Awesome Experience Combining Unplugging & Experiencing Downeast Maine!
When I was describing and gushing about my stay to a friend, they advised say “As Expected” or you’ll never be able to book the place again. Yes I do have high expectations, so I want to be fair to Denise and Hammond Farm, and even though I want to visit again, this place is more than “as expected,” it is outstanding!! You are about a 40-minute drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor where you can have that experience, which I did about three times because it was my first time to the area. Then travel lovely rural-like roads back to Franklin for glorious peace and quiet. The location of the home is stunning if you love being ensconced by nature. I had coffee before expansive windows each morning overlooking sunrise at a tidal cove which has a the sounds of bubbling stream in the background. A family of mallards would swim in each morning. A Great Blue Heron would fly in most mornings to sit on a rock or forage for food along the coastline. Ospreys and bald eagles have been seen there frequently. The Hammond property includes a lovely walk to “the point” on a path with tidal bay and those rocky Maine coastline views. Sunset there was beautiful. (Better than Cadillac Mountain.) Even some mountains in the distance. A short walk away is the Brady farm run by a great couple, Sarah and Adam, who gave me tips on what to see locally. They sell fresh eggs (rich yokes and hard shells unlike the grocery store variety) and meats like bacon. The Hammond home is spacious and comfortable. Decorated with many farm, historical and family items. Yet there are all the modern touches and conveniences. A great heating system if it gets cold. Kitchen has everything you need including a few
basic supplies. Soft towels. The Welcome Basket of ground coffee, sweets, wine and half & half in the fridge meant I could settle right in without having to shop.. A lovely fire pit overlooks the cove right outside the front door. There are lots of activities to do close by so you don’t have to trek to Bar Harbor. Cute shops and restaurants in Ellsworth and other places. Breweries, too. Hikes on nearby trails run by Frenchman Bay Conservatory are available at several locations. They were uncrowded. Denise was super responsive pre-visit and I didn’t need her once during my stay though I’m certain she would be responsive. So though Hammond Farm sounds a bit off the beaten track it is close enough to enjoy all that is DownEast Maine!! I loved my stay.

Amazing Maine adventure
This is an amazing spot, right on the water. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, eagles and seals in the bay, and close to Acadia and Ellsworth. The house has everything you need to cook, relax, and reconnect. So happy we were able to stay in this amazing piece of history!
