About this house rental
On a bluff over the Mississippi River with fabulous river views as you drive to Nauvoo for Historic sites/Temple to Hamilton/Keokuk for dining/shopping! Built in 2006 and totally renovated this year! Huge living room with a piano and tons of books, large formal dining area, 75 inch high def home theater seats 10. Wrap around deck along entire back of home with doors from owners suite and dining area, and a cement patio along the whole back of terrace level to enjoy over an acre of forest!
We love it here so much that we live here part of the year, so the home is furnished much better than most AirBNB’s and maintained better! A home theater, fully stocked game cabinet, ping pong table, cement patio and deck along the whole back of the home are a few of the things you will love about this home! Best yet, with beds to sleep 23 the cost of getting many family members or youth groups to see Nauvoo and create memories is cheaper than most places.
We are happy to receive phone calls, texts or emails to assist you while you are staying. We recommend using the app to text us.
This home is across the street from 17 undeveloped acres, and the Bishop of the 3rd ward is across the street, who is one of very few neighbors making this a quiet retreat. Yet it's 6 miles or so to the Temple and Historic sites and about the same to restaurants in Hamilton. Wal Mart in Keokuk is a short drive.
There is parking for four to five cars depending upon size.
This property is ideal in that it’s on an acre and surrounded by woods. You have fabulous River views each day you drive to town which you don’t get in town. It’s 6.4 miles to the Temple and 6 to the Historic sites, and 18 to Carthage! Check our Guidebook for detailed tourist and dining info.
Note: the WIFI at this location (and so many locations in Nauvoo) has bad internet. We've gone through three different companies, none were better than the other. If you experience spotty wifi service, we recommend using your cellphones as a hotspot. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Total of 13 people in our group. Plenty of room and beds for everyone. Really enjoyed the TV room downstairs & super close to Historic Nauvoo. Great communication with property owners. Would recommend.

House is as advertised. Jared is easy to communicate with and wants to ensure your stay is excellent. We were 9 adults in the house, but it could have easily accommodated more.

Family decided to visit Naboo, wanted to offer together, found the best place ever!

This property was everything we needed and then some. The inside of the house is huge and is very well equipped with everything you would need. The bedrooms are large with comfortable beds and we had so much fun for our reunion and our group of nine people. We all had our own bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms lots of privacy, etc. Hope to come back in the future. Highly recommend.

The home is very large with plenty of beds and sleeping arrangements. There was a lot of pots and pans and dishes to prepare your meals. The large table was excellent for meals and games. We enjoyed the large TV in the basement for watching a couple of shows.
The house was every day cleaned, not what we expect out of a VRBO.
Please note: There is no Coffee Maker!

First we were not given the door code as promised when giving them arrival time and found that 2 of the doors in the back were open to allow anyone to just walk in. We had to contact owner for code to properly lock home when we left.
The house was full of flies and gnats and we couldn't find a flyswatter. It was difficult to keep them off our food. We found a wet dish towel in the kitchen towel drawer (yuck) and the potholders were all greasy and grimy - we had to wash them all before using. Then we found some dishes in the cupboard were wet and questionable in cleanliness so we had to wash all dishes, pans and utensils before using. Food was left in the refrigerator and freezer and we had to move it all to a couple shelves so we had room for our own stuff we brought.
Going to bed we found a dead fly in one bed and a big dead spider in another. Really?! Do the beds ever get refreshed and readied for new arriving guests. There were spider and bug leavings in some of the windows and along the ledge going into the basement. Place just felt dirty from the moment we drove in and saw unmowed lawn and yard equipment scattered about.
The closets and dressers were all stuffed with clothing and other items so there was no where to hang our clothes and several closet doors were broken and some of the bedroom and bathroom doors wouldn't even shut properly. Some of the bathroom towels had big stains on them.

Great location and plenty of room!
This house worked great for our group of 14. The owner answered immediately when we needed help checking in and was helpful with local recommendations. Everyone had their own bed. The kids loved the ping pong table and multiple TVs. Would definitely stay here again!

Comfortable and spacious
A comfortable lived-in property with plenty of room for everyone. The pool table / ping pong table was a hit with everyone and kept us all together, whether playing a game or working a puzzle at the table or fixing dinner in the kitchen. The media room was nice to get away from the activity on the main floor. Nice neighborhood for taking walks. Overall a nice space for a large family gathering.

This property is as advertised if not more. My first experience was with my brother and sister in law for her birthday and anniversary. My wife and I loved it so much we doubled back within a month to celebrate our anniversary with the same people. The house is spacious with all the amenities needed. You don't even have to leave and go nowhere if you don't want. The host was great with both trips any questions issues or problem you have he normally responds within minutes. The home is beautiful tucked away in a private safe area. Stores restaurants are within minutes etc. My family appreciate the home, host, area and everything that was done for us so much. We are thinking about making that our getaway location as long as it is available. Will be return hopefully sometime soon

PROS: The house looks as pictured online- spacious, clean, and nice for a large group. Good price. Hosts were very nice and accommodating for early check-in/out. Processed my refund very quickly after cancellation due to miscommunication detailed below.
CONS: Communication very lacking. Someone lives on the property in the basement full time. This was not disclosed in the property listing as it would have influenced my decision to book. The information was casually disclosed when I physically spoke with the host 3 days before arrival and after I'd already paid. I wasn't thrilled but decided to proceed with the rental since this was booked with less than a week's arrival. During this phone conversation I also find out that the family physically lives in this property and made arrangments to leave for the weekend. Again not my personal preference to stay in someone's personal home while they actively reside, especially in light of the COVID-19 situation. They assured me the house is cleaned weekly so again I decided to proceed. On the day of arrival I received a call inquiring about our ETA as the owner wanted to greet us. I thought this was odd because in the 15 years that I have rented at least a dozen vacation homes, I have never physically met the owners, as is my preference. I became concerned that something wasn't right. We arrived at the home about 10 min later than ETA. The owners weren't there but their daughter let us in and gave us a home tour while awaiting her parents. The parents arrived about 30 min later. At this point I'm starting to get irritated because all of this is cutting into my birthday vacation time. The dad arrives and tells us that there's a "slight problem". They had a friend staying with them and she was still there. He asked if it was OK for her to stay in the house during our rental. For clarity- this is a DIFFERENT person from the basement tenant. He offered to reduce the price or purchase me a birthday cake. Neither!! I don't want to stay in the house with a stranger. When I informed him of this, he tried to rationalize since I only had 6 people, and the house sleeps 14, there was space for everyone. I rented the WHOLE house so each guest would have their own room. He agreed to put the person in a hotel. I left while they sorted it all out- make arrangements and clean her occupied room. While gone I decided to cancel. This was way too many headache and surprises. BTW there are loud pet roosters in the back yard.
