Room was good size, but bathroom dated/aged with signs of mould and needing repair. Sheets were dirty (looked like a foot print) but overall good value for money. Rooms could be better insulated as can hear everyone going down the corridor and they didn’t seem considerate of others

Excellent service, clean and comfortable and well equipped. While the communal areas, reception, bar and restaurant were fresh and well finished the upstairs corridors were a bit more tired and there were some creaky floorboards, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our stay given some of the negative reviews.
3.8
Always disappointed with the lack of staff at reception so always having to wait and wait every time I check in :-( The rooms are very tired but I know they are decorating throughout at the moment… but having a dirty toilet bowl is unacceptable. What a shame. The breakfast price is EXTORTIONATE too :-(

I have absolutely no idea why this gorgeous hotel is getting so many bad reviews, I literally cannot fault it. The staff were so friendly and helpful, everywhere was spotless, the food was delicious especially the breakfast which was the best I’ve ever had in a hotel. The only downside was that the outdoor pool wasn’t open during our stay and that was one of the main reasons we booked so I wish this could’ve been communicated to us prior to our visit. Having said that I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

On the first day, there was a huge snail on the walls in the room. Blocked drains, water stagnant when showering in bath. Sub standard house keeping. No hot water, in shower, 2 days out of my 3 days. I will not be returning back to this hotel, ever.
3.8
Not bad overall. Power cut around 10pm on one of the nights which lasted for 15 minutes. No apology or gesture of good will offered to customers. Decor and interiors looked tired and requires a refresh.

Very poor.
We were given a stadard double room.
The best review I can give it this is only just one mark off of a health hazard.
The rooms in this area of the hotel (Garden lodge) should not be available until they are thoroughly refurbished.
Areas in the hotel leading to this would have needed refurbing 10 years ago looking at (mould and wood damage), several notices promising refurbishment but it feels this is too little too late. They should not be available or accessible.
With a property with such potential this is very sad. Undertaking the level of refurbishment is mammoth, I would advise to carefully consider all the reviews before booking.
One last thing, our room was directly above a function room, there was a "Festival" playing very loud music from our check in time until 22.30 - this was a real shame as I did want to rest before leaving for a Wedding event, I ended up feeling exhausted not relaxed.
The only communication we received was at the time of check-in. Bad communication.
I repeat do consider all reviews before booking. I will leave a direct Google review on the hotels website - sadly the app is not allowing me to add the pictures of mould, scratched furniture, dirty shower head, dirty tiles and poor DIY, that wouldn't pass in any establishment.

Pretty ropey unfortunately. Everything looked quite grubby though the beds were very clean and comfortable. The outside, though an enormous building admittedly, needs a lick if pInt. The windowsills are black in places. Up our flight of stairs two strips of wallpaper fell off showing all the damp underneath
It was nice and quiet though and breakfast great.

We were put in a family room in an attic, the temp was 30 degrees, air con did not help at all, the fan did not help. we were moved into 2 adjoining rooms which were better but not clean. stains on the carpet, filthy bathroom floors. To be honest would not go back!

overall the property is clean, needs some updating like most english hotels, in high season i can understand alot of things cant be fixed without substantial disruption to staying guests but that some on going work is clearly visable and the rates accommodate this, breakfast had a good selection and nice staff, lounge is comfortable and dog friendly, lady on the bar was polite and friendly, however one or two things we felt could be worked on,
We didnt expect to be stopped in the corridor heading to the pool by a non resident telling us we can not use the pool until later as they have a private aqua class and there is no room, even though we had just been given the towels & access keys from reception, and no mention of this restriction. The other thing and more of a grumble, if you are painting windows in summer please let people know or have a sign in the room, as it turns out the paint on the window was stronger than the soap in the bathroom. Our window would not stay up and while proping the window unfortunately came into contact with the wet paint.
Not a hotel fault but to mention one of the workers also came and video'd his paint work from outside into our room on his phone which was a bit awkward seing as it was a late in the afternoon and a bit of a unexpected intrusion.

Terrible state of disrepair mould everywhere pool out of service very old looking rooms
Not worth the price we paid for the double room

No toothpaste.

Nice clean room, friendly staff. Hotel in need of a little attention in some areas but for the price it was fine and suited our needs as a base for exploring local area.
3.8
Just a one night stop off , but great night and dinner. Staff were very helpful.

The property is a beautiful old building and the surrounding landscaped gardens, golf course and terraces are delightful. The flower beds and raised beds were full of colour.
We enjoyed sitting outside under the pergolas with a drink from the bar
When we arrived to check in our room hadn't been cleaned and was very small for a double room - however the staff on reception quickly found us a superb room, double aspect with views over the gardens and gave us vouchers for free drinks from the bar to compensate. We were more than happy to accept.
Whilst there I had a swim in the warm pool
We found the staff on reception, dining room and in the bar to be very friendly and helpful.
We are hoping to visit again and would recommend it for its beautiful surroundings and brilliant service

Very dated hotel. Rooms very hot with only a small desk fan. Carpets stained. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. No fridge in room. Bathroom door was hard to open and close.
Tried to get a soft drink in bar but this is closed until 12pm. Asked if there was anywhere that could serve us and was told no. Asked if we could get a glass of water and helpful reception staff did get us a cup.
3.8
A comfortable stay, good leisure facilities and good breakfast options.

Hotel was ok. Not enough staff to make for a pleasant stay. Would not be returning!!

Restaurant service very slow

I was very disappointed with the stay, I feel like this hotel has gone very downhill. From the moment we arrived things were poor. We had a £100 breakfast charge on arrival, I was sure it was included in the price but there was no way of checking due to the poor information on the hotels app. We arrived at the room with our family of 4 and there was only one single bed so we had to ask for another bed. The first night our room was extremely hot, the air con stopped working and the vent constantly popping out of the wall, we was awake with my son for 3 hours from midnight, I managed to fix the vent into the wall after a while. The second night was more of the same, a very unpleasant nights sleep. My partner wasn’t very well and was back and forth to the toilet, the floorboards were the noisiest they could possibly be. This woke myself and my daughter most of the time which again led us to a very unsettled nights sleep. All in all feel like we wasted our money as we only live 20 minutes away but we all stayed together as we had a family wedding down the road which made it convenient for us and nice to be in what used to be a lovely hotel.
The staff seemed negative about one and other which is never a good sign. The communication between teams felt poor too as we was declined access in to breakfast due to no breakfast voucher which we had to go and get. Just disappointing and felt like a lot of money wasted and tired children for a family wedding.

We have stayed here before and will return. Restaurant & bar are good, staff are great, and our daughter loves the grounds & facilities. Sure the building is looking a little tired but everything else outweighs that, for us.
3.8
Very lacking in staff this weekend, check in took a while as only one staff at reception, no room service and there were only 2 people for the whole of the breakfast service, dirty plates everywhere and a lack of cutlery without asking, i felt sorry for the staff that were working. The shower head was also held together by gaffer tap? On the plus side the bed was comfortable, room view was good and the staff that were working were very helpful.
3.8
Enjoyed our stay. Staff very good. Room comfortable. Nice breakfast. Had a knock at 3.30 am to our alarm had gone off. Assume faulty as no kettle, spray etc being used.
3.8
Hotel exterior was very poor condition. Not reflected in photos. Room was spacious and clean, however shower was very basic.
We are in the bar for an evening meal. The meal was awful and I would not recommend eating here.
We also used the gym/pool facilities. These were adequate however both are very much on the small side.
If I have occasion to stay in the area again, I would seek alternative accomodation.
3.8
We stayed 2 nights there with our 2.5 years old. Bed was ok. Swimming pool temperature was lovely and facilities was reasonably clean but I guess as the building is so old, they don't have any life guards and no staff on duty in the pool area.
Breakfast wasn't great, food and drinks quality are quite poor. On the second day there was hardly any food left, apparently there was a big group there before we were there but would have expected they topped up the food quicker. Regardless the food was surprisingly tasteless and poor coffee for a hotel like this. Hope they can improve this as it could be a very nice hotel otherwise.
3.8
Staff were pleasant, room was spacious and the outside space was lovely, however the hotel needs some tlc, stained carpet, dirty bathroom round the edges, expensive food in restaurant. Wouldn’t stay again.
3.8
Loved the swimming pool, sauna room and steam room. Actual bedroom was very spacious and well equipped. Will definitely be returning soon

Lovely overnight stay at Avisford Park. Room was spacious and very comfortable for a family. Bathroom was big! Enjoyed drinks in the bar but didn’t eat at the restaurant. Pool was lovely and warm. Enjoyed the tennis courts and table tennis facilities and free use of equipment. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will return!
3.8
Hotel is in great need of an upgrade, windows need repairs and decoration. General decoration throughout. Menu needs adjusting to show what is on and not being told what isn’t. As they are having trouble with their supply then change to someone who can supply you goods!!! Eg told they haven’t had the Ribeye for weeks!!!!

I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at this hotel, and I must say it was an absolute disappointment. The building itself is in dire need of renovations, with a noticeable lack of maintenance. The presence of mold and mildew throughout the premises was not only unsightly but also raised concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene. Moth flew everywhere, it was 1000s of them.
The dining experience was equally underwhelming. The lack of information on the menu regarding the spiciness level of the chicken wings for kids was a major oversight. It resulted in an unpleasant surprise for my children, who found them way too spicy to enjoy. The calamari dish was also a letdown, as it seemed to have been cooked in an excessive amount of oil, making it unappetizing.
Overall, my stay at this hotel was far from satisfactory. I would strongly advise against choosing this establishment if you value comfort, cleanliness, and a pleasant dining experience. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements for future guests.
3.8
Hotel was dated and needed repainting decorating. However the staff was lovely. Not a 4 star hotel
3.8
Lovely hotel in Lovely location in all greenery. Staff very freindly and all the food we are was very good. Will definitely stay there again when next in the are
3.8
The front of the hotel looks nothing like the picture ; outdated and dull ; needs a repaint like yesterday; hotel fairly nice inside just needs a full makeover ; but they don’t need a sauna ; cause the rooms like a hotbox with the window open all night
3.8
Room was very small,
Room a long way away from Reception area. View out of the window was the Kitchens. Hotel in need of TLC & Redecorate. Glad we only strayed for the 1 night. Below Average.
3.8
Really nice friendly staff made our 2-night stay very pleasurable. Yes, the hotel does need a refurb, windows need replacing and the exterior needs painting, but except for a few wayward cobwebs in our room everywhere is clean, warm and welcoming. The restaurant and bar meals were fine, but slow coming. We would stay again.
3.8
Great hotel. Everything you need. Clean and friendly.
3.8
Hotel was ok. Building is a bit dated and rooms are nothing fancy and pretty small.
3.8
Nice hotel! Staff could check us in whenever and was very helpful. Rooms were nice and we had no complaints.
3.8
Hotel was very tired, damp spots in corridors and peeling or damaged paint everywhere. Walls very thin so could hear our neighbours snoring and engaging in intimate moments. Wine was expensive and very poor probably worth £4 but priced at £28. Very disappointing.
