Great apartment and conditions. The pool is open from 9 AM to 7PM : this is not good in the summer, it should be open at least until 9PM . There is no logic on reduced opening hours in the summer , with perfect weather conditions and temperatures around and above 30 degrees Celsius.

Had 2 bedroom apartment which was huge, great view of the pool. Tried the restaurant one evening and very disappointed by the buffet, not much choice especially for children, lots of dishes empty. Very clean and had everything we needed. Not close to amenities though. Would recommend

Basic requests like kitchen equipment (chef knife or any other than bread knife, manual orange juice squeeze) were neglected several times. Those are not expensive. Service and staff not on a good level. Didn't feel like Portugal 😒 e.g. In a bar i ordered and paid for fresh squeezed juice. Instead I got carton one. When complained i got response - yes but then I would need to take more time to squeeze it! Sic! Isn't that what I paid for?

O alojamento foi o suficiente para 4 noites, a piscina é grande e com espreguiçadeiras à disposição. Dá para ir a pé para a praia do alemão. Tudo espaçoso e limpo, foram 4 dias bastante agradáveis.

We was there for 5 days to realise once we got back to the UK the disgusting trampy cleaners had stolen our english money. If you are thinking to go here. Keep all your values with you. DISGUSTING

For a 4 star hotel, the decor and maintenance (especially of the rooms) leaves a lot to be desired.
I have been in this hotel ha + - 15 years, and the decoration / presentation of the rooms is the same, being that the maintenance conditions are weak, the bathroom is flushed down, lavatory without furniture only with support of lavatorio and tubing in sight, cracked tiles and very out of fashion.
Compensated with the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the pool, and the memory of the visit and memories of years ago.

Enjoyed our stay at Estrela do Vau.The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel itself was excellent value for money in a wonderful location..Our only concerns were the beds which we felt were not up to standard and if satellite tv is promoted then you would expect something more than just Sky News .Allowing for these concerns we would willingly come back to Estrela do Vau again.

We arrived at the hotel at 2am to a friendly reception and were both impressed by the size and quality of the room on first sight, however, soon realised that it was abnormally hot!! By that I mean that we were both covered in sweat immediately and felt almost sick from the heat. It was so late that we fiddled with the air con, hoped it would come on properly during the night and fell asleep. A sweaty and fitful night later it was still unbearably hot and we knew something must be wrong. When I reported this issue to the reception staff at 9am the next day, I was told they would 'get a maid to look at it'. Having not heard any more by 3pm, I approached the lady on reception again who said 'by the way your air con is broken, we have given you a fan'. Interestingly, having just come from the room, we were fairly confident that no one had been in there at all (beds not made, no cleaning done, double locked as we'd left it) so we were slightly confused as to how 'the maids' had decided it wasn't working anyway! We didn't have a fan and we weren't happy. Not in the least by the flippant attitudes of the staff supposed to be fixing our issue. Finally, after much pestering, we were moved rooms by the second day although for us this was too little too late, we'd already had two sleepless nights in a room that made us feel ill from heat. We were also upset that we were made to feel as if they were doing us a favour rather than fixing a problem at a hotel we'd paid good money for.

This place is remote and there is no free shuttle bus to the nearest 2 towns, which means you are forced to take taxis or the bus (no difference in price for a family of 4).
A trip into town or Praia du rocha beach at least once a day and usually twice to return for dinner in the evening.. ended up costing between €25-32 per day... and over 10 days amounts to several hundred euros.. this just not on.. HIRE A CAR IF YOU WAMT TO STAY HERE, it's essential.
Other moans... the bar, food, the onsite shop and cafe prices were extortionate.. a total rip-off... not just in hotel but in Alvor too.. they wouldn't give you plastic knives and forks for any takeaway food.. the music played around the pool every day was TERRIBLE.. continuous repetition of the same few tracks felt like torture.
The reception staff were courteous but unhelpful on several occasions, for example.. being locked out of room and refused a copy of the key?? Why?? plus they tried to sell trips that worked out cheaper if you just went in a taxi yourself. We ended up mistrusting everyone who worked here.
The rooms are large however cleaning and towel replacement was sporadic and there are no in-room cleaning facilities to do the job yourself, forcing you to buy more stuff that you shouldn't need to.
Very disappointed in our stay, felt ripped off and bored. Kids loved the pool so at least there's that. Would never return here.

Wifi not included in rooms which is a bit outdated but otherwise ok and friendly staff.

This hotel is in a good location, on the edge of Alvor and close to the beach, also a short walk to Praia do Vau beach and a few restaurants.
However, the hotel itself was a let down, based on people that we knew who had been there previously,
We turned up to the room, to find that it had no toilet roll, no coat hangers and no working air conditioning. While these things were rectified quickly, the fact that they weren't fixed before the room was deemed fit for us to check in too wasn't impressive.
On our first morning in the hotel we went to the snack bar at the pool for breakfast, having seen that they serve this. We were there at twenty past nine in the morning and they hadn't even opened!!
The cleaning of the hotel also left a lot to be desired. Our balcony was only swept once in the twelve days we were there, and a couple of days our towels weren't changed and we had to ask housekeeping to do this on our return to the room.
Would recommend this if you want a basic, low cost hotel and are happy to put up with the poor things such as the above. But if you want a more enjoyable holiday there are other hotels in the area that would be more satisfactory.

Mixed feelings about this place. Hotel was clean and well maintained. 2 bed apartment was a great size and very comfortable and very clean. Hotel staff were very professional and friendly and interacted well with the kids and laid on as much entertainment as the kids were interested in. Hotel grounds however, were a little bit on the shabby side, (as was the general neighbourhood to be fair) no Mini golf course as advertised and two tennis courts were unusable due to lack of netting and dirt. Still expected to pay €10 per person to use them though. Pool area was clean and well maintained but merely functional.Biggest problem though was the food. For a four star hotel the food was disgusting. Buffet breakfasts were cold and unappetizing as well as the buffet meals in the supposed restaurant. Only way to describe the food there was thrown together I have to stress the point that I was not the only guest to feel the same was. most of the guests we chatted with felt the same way. Great hotel, shocking food for 4 stars. Guests staying in the hotel on a full or half board were disgusted by the food on offer.

We enjoyed our stay lovely holiday, the hotel could do with some updating in most areas i.e. bathrooms. The staff are excellent especially front desk so helpful in every way. A refurbishment would send this hotel to ten out ten again.

Really helpful and friendly staff. Good sized and airy rooms. Cleaners do a great job. The on-site shop is expensive, much better to take a taxi (c.7/8 Euro) to the Continete supermarket. It's suitably remote but it's certainly no 'Overlook'. The bar is so expensive they hire door supervisors to throw people in! Again, though the staff are kind and helpful. It's a 10-15 min walk to the beach but the walk is not recommended for people with restricted mobility - best to take a taxi. The nearest beach is used by locals which is nice. For a pair of boring older farts like us, it's top dollar.

A great place to stay. Its away from all activities and noise. If you want to relax stress free then this is the place for you. However to go anywhere like restaurants, nightclubs etc it is 2km from everything then you will need to get taxis. The staff are very polite and helpful. Overall I will go there again and again.

Pleasant holiday in a Hotel that we have been to many times and will return to in future despite its shortcomings.
We find this Hotel suites our purposes being within easy reach of a small sandy beach but conveneintly located for several other beaches and principle resorts which are all within walking distance for those who enjoy walking and only a short inexpensive taxi ride for those who don't.

The hotel room was clean comfortable and big. The only draw back is that the hotel is a little dated and things are old like the tv and plumbing etc. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away and the hotel has a small store on the grounds where you can buy small items, if you want any significant groceries you either have to drive or get a taxi. The 2 days we spent there where relaxing and nice both at the hotel and beach there are a few restaurants within walking distance but downtown Portiamo is definitely a taxi ride away.

on first impressions i was shocked that it was rated 4* - the decor is very dated expecially as it was built in the 90's having said that we had the studio apartment and it was a lot bigger then we expected ( i would call it a 1 bed apartment which was of decent standard ). the staff were brilliant and extreamly helpful. The resturant we tried on the 1st night and was not impressed however for 2 adult buffett and 1 child buffett only cost around £25 so cant really complain. the location was perfect a short walk to a perfect beach cheap cab fares to nearby areas with brilliant restraunts and the area was quiet. the hotel had a small gym, a spa and 3 pools good size and perfect for our daughter, all of great standard. we didnt do the hotel entertainment but there was something on everynight. overall it was everything we needed - we had a lovely time and i wouldnt mind saying at these apartments again.

We stayed at Estrela de Vau 4 years ago and we were pleased to see that the hotel had been very well maintained since then. There was an indoor swimming pool under construction during our visit and we were accommodated well away from any potential disturbance.Staff throughout were very friendly and helpful. Our 1 bed apartment was spacious and nicely decorated, with daily cleaning service and towel change. The only drawback was the location, 10 min walk to beach and half hour walk to Alvor,a car would be best, although taxis are readily available. We are very happy to recommend Estrela de Vau.

WE ENJOYED OUR STAY VERY MUCH. WAS A GREAT PLACE TO STAY. WOULD COME AND STAY AGAIN. ONE THING TO KNOW IS THAT THE LOCATION IS NOT AS CLOSE TO BEACH AS ONE MIGHT SEE ADVERTISED. IT IS MORE LIKE ONE KILOMETER FROM BEACH WHICH WAS NOT A LONG WALK. IT WAS A VERY PLEASANT STAY AND WE HATED TO LEAVE WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS.
