Beautiful hotel but they delay your check out until someone goes to the room to check it. It is strange and that is the reasons I might be looking for other options.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Portales Hotel in Chinandega, Nicaragua, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, the welcoming atmosphere and outstanding service made us feel like we were part of a family.
The pool is absolutely stunning—clean, beautifully designed, and the perfect temperature! It was a fantastic place to relax during the warm days.
Breakfast was a highlight of each morning. The all-you-can-eat buffet offered a wide variety of delicious options, and I loved that I could order my eggs cooked exactly how I wanted. Breakfast service from 6 to 11 AM made it easy to enjoy a leisurely start to the day.
For lunch and dinner, the culinary offerings were exceptional! I especially recommend trying the salmon with veggies; it was simply phenomenal! Each meal was thoughtfully prepared, and the flavors were incredible.
The rooms are perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. The air conditioning was a blessing, the WiFi was excellent, and the spacious bathrooms with walk-in showers were such a treat. Our room was consistently cleaned, ensuring a comfortable stay.
What truly stood out, however, was the amazing staff. From Crishian and Francisco at the bar to the lovely concierge team—Heidy, Lorena, Stephanie, and Milagro—their warm smiles and friendly demeanor made every interaction a joy. Jorge was also fantastic.

Overall this is a nice place to stay when compared to other hotels in Chinadega. They have a very good breakfast, It’s quiet and clean, and staff is friendly. However, the internet signal in my room was very poor and my device disconnected frequently from the wifi. Additionally, the internet speed was slow and did not allow me to download pictures messages. Lastly, it is listed that this hotel has a gym and spa and that is no longer accurate. Expedia and Los portales need to update the gym and spa part. In the gym picture it shows a treadmill which is no longer available. What they do have is Pilates classes that are only available to women (this is what the receptionist told me when I asked about the gym).

Always great accommodation in our room.
The pool is always clean the staff is great. Breakfast is a good selection of food however they can upgrade the special of the day for the guests like wings, chicken bites, the drinks but in general great place to be 😊

Wow! What a treasure! We will definitely stay here again. The staff, the rooms, the beautiful property…all incredible! The hotel breakfast alone was worth coming back for. Our breakfast server was the best we ever had anywhere. Multiple restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. We are at Dragonfly last night and it was wonderful. The pool at Los Portales is lovely as well! Very impressed!

Was an overall nice yet affordable hotel. Only negative was that the lighting to the Hotel entrance after a certain time seems to be turn off. I understand off energy consumption but a sensor and of course the lights to the main entrance of the hotel.

We’ve stayed at this hotel several times, every time we travel to Nicaragua to visit family. Clean hotel, great rooms, delicious food.
My review is just for the front desk lady ( I failed to get her name ) she was working on 11/24/22 3am, I had to check out at this time because I had to be at the airport at 6am. Anyway, as I am walking out I have to turn in the room key because if you don’t they charge you $10. She tells me to wait so she can inspect the room ( this has never happened every time we’ve stayed here) , we wait for her to come back from the room, she comes back like 20 minutes later , and tells me we have to pay $26 because a TOWEL IS A DIRTY!!!!! Not a hole.. not cut, not missing, a towel was dirty… I said excuse me? She said yes , we have to charge you because the towel in the bathroom is dirty with dirt, I had to laugh and asked if the hotel didn’t have a washing machine?
I hope this gets to the manager and owner because charging a guest for a dirty towel is insulting, we will never stay in this hotel again, go next door to the fallarones hotel instead!

The nicest hotel in Chinandega by far. The property was beautiful and immaculate. Staff was very attentive and most key staff spoke English. The only complaint was the pictures I had seen from other guests showed a fitness room. The fitness room has since been turned into a bar. I guess you can pound the beers instead of pounding the weights. The air conditioning was top notch.

Los Portales is still the nicest hotel in Chinandega, with very clean and comfortable rooms, a nice pool and great breakfast included.
However, customer service quality has decreased significantly, and here are two examples:
- Partial room cleaning, e.g. they wouldn't replace the glasses I've been using for 3 days, no new soap was put in, one face towel was not replaced and they tried to charge me for that
- Personel is yelling at each other across the hallways, and now address guests in an impersonal way
