Best Ryokan we found in Japan our entire trip, also saw guest checking in past 6pm like indicated on hotels.com so good to know for future. Highly recommended this place from well travelled couple.

The stay was fine, check-in was not smooth and the reception staff was not very helpful. You can’t drive to the entrance of the hotel, it’s quite a long walk from the parking with heavy luggages. I would not recommend this hotel to any senior traveler or people with disability.

The service was really good but the faculty is a bit out dated.

The hotel is located on the top off a very steep hill which is not mentioned on this hotel’s webpage. It takes approximately 15 minutes to get there from Gora station. They provide a free shuttle bus, however you realize that only after you check in.
The dinner is pretty expensive and there are no close by restaurants, while going to the center is not an option as you’ll have to climb the steep hill once again on your way back.
There are private and public onsens. The public Onsen is small and free to use (except a ¥150 spa bath tax per px). The private one is priced ¥3000 per 45 minutes which is ridiculous in my opinion! I think they should’ve allowed guests to reserve the private onsens without additional charge.
There is no complementary water in the room, but they placed a vending machine “for your convenience”. They have some instant noodles and snacks for purchase in the lobby.
The breakfast was Japanese and might be difficult for the western palate.

Very nice stay overall. The dinner courses were delicious, and they served many interesting, seasonal Japanese dishes. Very good quality sashimi. Room was clean, with nice view of the garden. Friendly and helpful staff. It was raining when we checked out, but the staff very kindly gave us an umbrella to take with us.Facilities are a little old, however.

Beautiful place with lovely hot onsen. Amazing traditional dinner and breakfast. Free coffee in reception and shuttle back to Gora. Only downside was slightly hard futon and no blinds to block light coming from front path (but this turned off about 11 PM). Highly recommended.

Fantastic stay! My friend and I booked what I would call a honeymoon suite on the 3rd Floor (Luxery Room, Private Bathroom, Twin Beds). The room was massive and had a private soaking tub on our balcony. Another great added bonus was that they provide shuttle service from Gora Station. We just used the pay phone when we arrive and the driver was there within 5 minutes. If you're feeling adventurous, it's also easy to take the funicular up the mountain a couple of stops and then do the very short walk to the hotel. Our room also had a spectacular view of the mountains, even on a rainy day. Would highly recommend this hotel!
