Absolutely one of a kind. Picturesque setting, amazing staff, amazingly delicious food, great access to activities and breathtakingly beautiful and welcoming.

Beautiful location but be warned that the 6 miles to get there are gravel and steep. Also, there is no air conditioning, otherwise, a gem.

This is a hidden gem in the jungle. The cabins are beautiful and private. The staff is wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. The restaurant serves 3 wonderful meals everyday. Highly recommend Black Rock Lodge for a jungle adventure. They also help book all of your adventures.

All of the staff went above and beyond expectations. They ensured our comfort and were incredibly knowledgeable about the surroundings.
The atmosphere was welcoming and absolutely breathtaking.
Our guides, Francisco and Jeffrey, made our family trip extra special.

The lodge and its staff were incredible. I can’t give it enough praise! The food was top notch and probably some of the best we had on our trip. The feeling of being in the jungle and surrounded by nature and wildlife was a real treat. The staff were very friendly, super helpful, and did everything to make you feel at home. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a must stay!

The lodge is in the jungle on the mecal river. There are plenty of activities to do right there. The guides are amazing and know their birds. Everyone who works there was friendly and nice

We enjoyed our week at Blackrock Lodge and did several tours through them. Please note that the bigger tours (Tikal, Caracol, ATM) are subcontracted to third parties and the quality varies with some being outstanding and others a little rough around the edges. Food was excellent. I especially enjoyed the 4 course candle lit dinners and wine selection. They tried very hard to accomodate my allergies. The grounds and rooms are exceptionally beautiful. The beautiful location comes from being built into a river gorge and some rooms (especially the newer riverview ones) require going up and down the steep stairs multiple times per day. The original rooms are close to the level of the restaurant and are better for those who want to minimize going up and down the steep slope, but are slightly less private. I also appreciated the efficient pick up from the water taxi and drop off to the airport. We would definately stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had an absolutely amazing experience from check in to check out. We elected to rent a jeep and were met in the parking lot by a staff member who got our bags and took them to our room while we were checked in and given an explanation of the property and their processes, etc. The concierge arranged all of our outings and everyone we encountered here were extremely nice and helpful.
The beds were comfortable and the cabins were clean. Make sure you bring bug spray - we also brought the mosquito coils that we lit while we were relaxing in the hammocks which kept most of the bugs away.
The food and drink were amazing and the service we received was wonderful. We stayed over American Thanksgiving and the they offered a Thanksgiving menu for dinner. Be aware they have limited selections each day due to the fact that they prepare all the food with fresh ingredients. For dinner we were offered a meat option, vegetarian option, and pasta option. Dinner is a four course meal, breakfast and lunch were a la cart with a good amount of menu options.
I would absolutely stay here again!!

Black Rock Lodge has to be one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. The location was just breathtaking, with so much wildlife around. The staff were all so welcoming, helpful and personable, and all of them were so knowledgable. Unfortunately the road up was a bit scary but they were all so reassuring! If I come back to Belize I would definitely stay here again!

Had an overall fantastic stay at the property, was beautiful setting and staff are all excellent, hospitable and welcoming. They helped to arrange seamless transfer and coordination before our stay and even afterwards to accommodate our schedule.
Couple points to improve needing to make this spectacular:
1. Install AC in the cabins!!! Having a fan is fine but everything just feels wet from the humidity and windows opened. Which doesn’t feel the cleanest.
2. Have a mosquito net at least, having the lack of AC is already painful enough, having bugs crawl all over you at night could be a nightmare for many.
3. Add a hot tub, pool was small and very cold water from the spring. A hot tub would have been a huge plus!

I really thought I'd love this place. We've stayed in many lodges similar to this in Central America/Asia, always being a highlight of any trip.
The location is nice enough, the rooms are ok. We were there after a large amount of rain, the staff did a great job transferring us over the flooded road.
My biggest issue with this place is the dining arrangement. You have to eat there, there is no other option unless you want to pay for the transfer or drive into San Ignacio to eat. I'd figured out we had to pay for meals even though the cost is not listed anywhere on there website. You have to have a 4 course dinner every night, costing US$26 per person plus service charge and tax so US$32 per person. The food is average - not much point in the first 2 courses, the main and dessert are okay. You then have to eat the for breakfast and lunch too if not on trips - again the prices are very high for what you get.
We spent over US$550 just on food in three nights, not including drinks (we didn't drink too much thankfully!). Considering we ate and drank a really good meal for US$30 in total for 3 adults in San Ignacio, I think they take advantage that you cannot go anywhere else.
The free activities were closed due to rain, including the pool at times but they still charged us US$120 for 2 walks. One of which we questioned if they'd be any wildlife around and was told yes by staff. However, the guide told us on the walk that there was very little chance of seeing anything.

The staff here have the most incredible service and are very welcoming. The food was unbelievably delicious and the wildlife was abundant!
We didn’t do much of the activities that they provide as we didn’t have enough time but I will definitely be coming back!

This is the most exciting place to visit in Belize. So many options for adventure from here. The meals were fantastic, the staff was fantastic. Thank you Black Rock for creating this place deep in the jungle.

We loved Black Rock Lodge! The rooms are beautiful with one major problem. The bugs. I know bugs are normal but I had a hard time with them hitting my face and crawling down my shirt as we ate dinner and hitting my face as I lay in bed trying to sleep. The wildlife and scenery is absolutely beautiful. The rope swing and river was so fun. I was too scared to play too much due to the crocodiles. My family loved it!

Beautiful property and great staff. We stayed at one of luxury cabins and it was incredible, spacious, tastefully decorated and clean. It is far from city or some activities, but that is inherited in choosing a “rainforest lodge” experience

Very attentive staff and perhaps the best customer service in all of Belize. My wife is vegan and gluten free and at meals they went to lengths to accomdate her.

Black Rock is a wonderful place to stay. The combination of serene beauty, dedication to eco-friendliness and excellent service made it such a memorable experience.

Staff were very friendly, definitely review your bill and ask for clarification following any trips to town, etc. The amount that was provided by the front desk was different than on the bill. As far as dinner, there are only three options so if you are coming with a picky eater like I was, be prepared.

Incredible place. In the thick of the jungle overlooking the river, you really feel a part of nature. We loved going for a swim in the river or pool before or after our activities. The staff are very friendly and organising activities is so easy, you can just decide the day before and tell them at the restaurant. The food is also fantastic, with great breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Overall Black Rock is just a fantastic experience and well worth it

Outstanding, well run lodge. If you enjoy nature, especially tropical jungle birds, this is the place for you. Short distance to several ancient Mayan cities (we visited Tikal and Xuhantunic) all seamlessly arranged by the lodge. The staff are friendly and courteous. Highly recommend Black Rock Lodge.

We stayed at Black Rock in September "slow season" but the stay was just as incredible if not better than high season. The staff were great and attentive. Everyone from the bar staff, kitchen, grounds keeping, Fernando (excursions & bird expert), House Keeping etc.. At points we essentially had the place to ourselves, and were well taken care of.
Also, if your at all hesitant in booking because its a bit further out than some of the places in town dont be! Its worth it... Your immersed in the jungle, right on the river and the road was recently re-paved so its a breeze getting there now. No long bumpy road rides.

Beautiful jungle lots of birds awesome food. Great staff and guides we had a wonderful time

The lodge is located about 45 minutes from the city of San Ignacio. Located deep within the jungle, BRL offers a tranquil escape into nature. You will wake up to the sounds of tropical birds chirping and the smell of the jungle air. There are insects even within the cabins which would be difficult to avoid as you are in the jungle.
While the food selection was limited to the only restaurant on the resort, it was delicious and varied, bringing home the concept from farm to table. Tours to the popular attractions can be organized on site with transport. While they weren't cheap, they correspond more or less to the market price.

We enjoyed BRL immensely. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! 1 person in our party was disappointed in the lack of air conditioning but the rest of the party of 6 found it find with the ceiling fans fine. Birds, rope swing and tubing was the highlights of our stay. We had 3 kids and 4 adults.

Individual cabins are so cute and tastefully decorated, I loved the patio with hammocks! They birdwatching was unparalleled and I really enjoyed the night walk as well! Fernando did a awesome job guiding us down the river and spotting new birds and wildlife. All of the food was delicious, so nice that they grow a good portion of their food. Can’t say enough about how much I enjoyed this place. My husband‘s big complaint was no air-conditioning but hey, we are out in the rain forest, I didn’t want any solid walls separating us from nature.

Black Rock is amazing! Staff is fantastic, grounds are amazing, and the guides whobtake youbon excursions are incredible! I highly recommend! Birding and wildlife was abounding!

Black rock lodge is the perfect hideaway and a real gem, the location is perfect - right in the jungle, you can hear the howler monkeys roar in the morning and next to the river where you can take an afternoon swim. You can also spot various birds on your own but also on a bird watching tour at sunrise. The activities and tour guides were great, definitely go for ATM and a night hike. Everyone was super lovely and welcoming, accomodation is basic but clean and you have everything that you need. The food was also good, they have vegeterian options - here they could improve by offering more local veggie cuisine, they offered a lot of pasta and lasagne which is kind of weird from the perspective of an European citizen. But overall we had a perfect stay, thank you!

Wonderful secluded resort with a great view. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We came for birding and it exceeded our expectations. Birding guides Fernando and Francisco are both very knowledgeable and eager to help us to find over 150 species of birds in 4 days. We started birding as soon as we were picked up in Belize City, all the way until we were dropped off 4 days later. The resort is eco-friendly and comfortable. There are a lot on on-site and off-site activities to choose from. We had thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
