About this cabin rental
If you like the Ahwahnee hotel in Yosemite, you'll love our little Ahwahnee-be cabin. Decorated with mission oak furniture and Indian themed fabrics and Pendletons, this 1953 vintage cabin is just a 10 minute walk into town.
The space:
Walk to county and state parks, hiking trails, bouldering and skate park. A beautiful real river rock fireplace is at the heart of this unique cabin. Large 1/2 acre lot with a badminton court. Downstairs is a game room/theater and large screen TV with surround sound, DVD, and PS2 game console. We have lots of Xbox 360 games, so bring your own Xbox.
Super Fast Gigabit WiFi.
Another nice feature of this cabin is the real plaster ceiling. Many of the cabins in Idyllwild have the same wood paneling on the ceiling as the walls. This makes for a rather dark room, and a feeling as though one is living in a crate.
Some reviewers have mentioned the word "loft" for the upstairs bedroom. To be clear, it is a large finished attic room with it's own door to the stairs. The ceiling, however, is 6 feet high, so us tall ones have to stoop a little!
We are on a corner large lot at a 3-way stop three blocks from town. Like any property that close to town, we have occasional cars pass by our cabin. Evenings and nights are mostly dead quiet.
This is a cabin, there is a fireplace, and it is used. There may be a faint smell of smoke when you arrive. We do our best to clean the fireplace every time, but it is not perfect.
$50 pet fee per week or portion thereof.
Other things to note:
We have a window air conditioner in the living room during the summer. There are fans in every room to move that cool air around. Usually we open the windows at night and close them in the mornings on hot days and the place will stay cool most of the day, even without the air conditioner on.
The downstairs space (where the half bath is also) is normally unheated, so it may take a while to warm up with the space heater in the winter. Also, the stairs are a bit steep (up to code in 1953!). There is a handrail, but not recommended for toddlers and the elderly. Please keep the door locked when not in use.
The attic room stairs are also steeper than you may be use to, but they are carpeted with a handrail, and are behind a lockable door. On the hottest summer days, the attic room will get warm, but is well ventilated and always cools off at night considerably.
Sorry, no wood is provided for the fireplace. One can purchase boxes of wood from both markets in town, and there is usually kindling in the box. If not, we may have kindling in boxes at the rear of the property.

It’s a great cozy cabin with a basic but functional kitchen, great outdoor lounging space and a separate entertainment room with a large TV and video games for the kids. The third bedroom upstairs is a great space for kids (it has a shorter ceiling that might be awkward for taller guests).
It’s close enough to downtown Idyllwild to walk if you like, and we didn’t have any issues with noisy neighbors. Overall very comfortable and exactly what we were looking for.

Fun town, beautiful setting, quiet.

We have stayed in Idyllwild several times and this was the best cabin! 3 separate rooms with beds (not sofabeds), a short walk to town and very responsive owners. Would definitely recommend!

The house was perfect, like staying at a friend’s house. Everything that I needed, I found in the house. The owners checked in on us to make sure everything was okay and were available for questions or issues. We had neither. The walk into town was easy and quick. It was a great place for us and our adult children.

Wonderful CLEAN cabin (no bugs!) that is close to everything. Love the driveway that allows straight pull through. No backing out onto the road. Very convenient. Very cute area for kids in the converted attic. We will be back!

We had a lovely time at this cabin. It's super close to town and shopping. The property is beautiful and spacious...plenty of room for kids to explore. The cabin has everything you need. The Roku TVs were a nice touch and the man cave downstairs is great for teens.
The owners were great with communication when we had a question. We enjoyed our 1st trip to Idyllwild and will definitely be back.

Flew in from Idaho to visit family. This cabin and the host was amazing. Close to town and communicating with any questions i had with owner was answered quickly. Love the property, plenty of space. The media room was a hit with the grandchildren. Would definitely recommend.

The cabin is located close to town so we spent a good part of a day in town. The cabin is generally a little run down. The third bedroom upstairs was not usable. It looks like a converted attic which is fine, however, the smell was overwhelming and not good. It was a musty mildew smell that you get from continuous dampness in an old building with very old contents. I imagine during the summer when the weather warms up and the room can be aired out and dried out, maybe that would help, but there’s only one very small window, so I’m not sure if that would make a difference. I mention this because you should keep in mind that you are paying for a three bdr two bath, but may only be able to use two of the bdr. For us it worked out because there were two couples who took the bedrooms downstairs, and the single adult slept on the couch in the living room. Also, the other problem with the upstairs bedroom was the stair railings. The rails on the landing and the single rail on the wall going down the stairs were very loose and unsafe. It’s an older cabin and the room was once an attic so the stairs are narrow and steep. Which leads me to the lighting in that stairwell. There is one light switch at the bottom of the stairwell with very dim inadequate lighting. If you got up in the middle of the night to use the restroom downstairs, it would be difficult because the light switch is at the bottom of the stairs.
The instruction book at the property said to leave you trash in the single trash can under the deck with the lid secured. Unfortunately, that trash can was overflowing when we got there, we had already loaded the cars, so we proceeded to unload/rearrange everything so that we could fit our four bags of trash into our vehicles because there was no room in the trash can. Right when we got done, the owner sent a message to leave the trash. Would have saved us the trouble of rearranging our cars if we had been told that up front.
As far as the second bathroom, keep in mind that it is in the basement which has concrete walls and no heat. If you are going when it’s cold, that bathroom might have limited use. But it is an extra toilet and sink so better than nothing.
The heat requires that you reset it every so often so you’ll need to get up in the middle of the night to do that. Also minor plumbing problem.
Owner said that maybe the prior renters smoked upstairs. It was definitely not cig smoke. Owner seemed generally unconcerned.

This place provided all the necessities that you would come to expect from a quality rental; clean towels, nice bedding, kitchen necessities. It also had some fun extras; gaming console, badminton, and board games. This place worked out great for our family. We especially liked the seperate areas. My teens loved the media area downstairs and having their own space in the upstairs "attic" area. We also enjoyed our walks into town to grab lunch and do some shopping.

This little cabin is super in all aspects! It is super clean, beds are super comfy and smelled so fresh and clean, kitchen and bathroom are well stocked, soft clean towels, loved the fireplace and the views from the windows. Everything works! Close to everything, quiet and serene neighborhood! Owners are very professional and attentive!

This cabin was perfect for our trip! We were traveling with two teenagers and their friends so we needed space to be together (the dining table was the perfect size for our group of 6) and also private space (the girls were very happy in their bedroom while the boys played games downstairs).
We played lots of cards and boardgames that we brought (but the cabin has some too) and we spent hours playing badminton on our last day. It was more fun than any of us realized. A great asset to the cabin and worth trying even if you're a beginner!
Great walking distance from town (half a mile: not too far & not too close with cute shops along the way), helpful amenities in every room (extra blankets, cooking essentials, shampoo, games, etc).

Two things stood out to me: step out and walk to a network of hiking trails and really nice beds. Overall, we had a very pleasant weekend in the cabin.

Incredibly charming cabin in my favorite little mountain town. Nephew, niece and my sister visited from Hawaii and absolutely loved their stay. They have everything covered that you could possibly need, the kids loved having a fire and the Roku TV playing Disney movies in the background was a perfect little touch. Clean, perfectly located and the beds are very comfy! Loved this little diamond and can't wait to book another visit ♥️
