Check in was very easy, there was a lot of communication with the hosts. Plenty of room for our party of 5, age 6 - 60+. We really enjoyed the hot tub and view of Lake Superior. Location was perfect for our tourist excursions to Glensheen and Canal Park endeavors. Time didn't allow for Gooseberry, but would be perfect for that too!

Pluses:
House has plenty of room and good areas for gathering. We were able to spend good time chatting together catching up. The hot tub and fireplace on the deck was nice.
Agreements with other reviews:
There are quite a few personal items around. General cleaning was good – vacuumed, wiped down, clean sheets/towels, clean hot tub. But many areas had built up dirt and needs a detailed scrub and could use some good general maintenance. The deck railing is messed up from a tree fall and roped off by snowmobile fence and ratchet straps.
Concerns:
There is a tenant and dog that lives in the basement, and there is an access door in the kitchen. The door has no lock for the renter to secure. This was a deal-breaker for a couple friends where some late-night noise from the tenant freaked them out, and they left. The owner stated this was disclosed and sent me a pic showing the tenant disclosure, but none of us could find this information online. We were missing three smoke detectors throughout the bedrooms. The deck door has multiple locks, all of which only mildly worked. As the owner mentioned in other reviews, a previous renter left the freezer opened but the freezer wasn’t cleaned out where things melted.
We had a good conversation with the owner before we left, where we discussed our concerns. She mentioned it has been challenging keeping up personally, and as a rental owner, with the repairs for many different reasons. She did offer a future discounted stay.

We stayed here for a family wedding weekend so we didn't spend much time at the house. There was good communication between the owner, overall the house was as it appeared in the pictures.

The house is pretty run down. Wall paper peeling off walls, half painted walls, water damaged floors in the kitchen and dining room. Those things I could have overlooked if it didn’t smell so bad. It has an old house smell but then there is garlic hanging in the windows in the kitchen to add to that smell! The deck was rotting apart. The benches were held up by some bricks but some places it couldn’t even be held up. The hot tub was not clean and we found glow sticks and loose screws on the bottom so it was obviously not cleaned. I was told I put too much chemicals in and that’s why we had brown foam when we turned on the jets!! The entire house needs a deep clean as others have said. Dust and dog hair everywhere including in all of the beds! I found a pill on the floor and with a crawling baby with me that was concerning. Moldy windows and they all need a good clean that has not been done for many years. This was my first time doing Vrbo and I was very disappointed. Then we went to go to bed and we found dog and human hair on all of the sheets. One set of sheets was covered in mold. That was the last straw. The owner said I would get a full refund if I didn’t contact Vrbo but after a few days of not hearing from them I went ahead with a complaint to Vrbo. Now we were supposedly swinging from the basketball hoop and bent the pole! The tallest person with us was 5’6”!!! Not sure how we could have gotten up there??
I stayed the 2nd night in a motel!

Beautiful, relaxing house. The house was clean, but lacks a deep cleaning and declutter. The deck was a disappointment.

Great place to visit Duluth and relax, in a quiet area but just minutes to everything downtown. Hot tub was a great bonus!

we had a blast! check-in was nice! we got a little tour before settling in, by the owner’s daughter (who was an absolute doll). she gave us a run-down of nearby nature walks and views. it was the first vrbo i’ve stayed in that had personal belongings in it, so it was a little weird, but it gave a very homey atmosphere! felt like we were staying with relatives. 😊 thank you so much for everything. i’d absolutely stay again.

I rented this home for a bachelorette weekend for my sister in law. Cindy was very helpful in the process when the site wouldn’t work and communicated often when I had questions before our stay. When I arrived she had mentioned they were spring cleaning. They had been doing some landscaping so she was clearing away some of the extra items. I rented the home for 9 girls and everyone had a bed to sleep in which was nice. The home wasn’t professionally cleaned as the previous reviewer expressed, but I did some cleaning before decorating and putting the party together. I left the home in the condition that it was found. I asked Cindy for check out instructions and she said just basic cleaning. I loaded the dishwasher with any remaining dishes we used and the girls stripped the beds to make laundry easier for the cleaning crew. We attempted to run a vacuum again but it doesn’t pick up much. The door kept on locking us out and although the homeowners were next door, we didn’t feel comfortable leaving the door unlocked with all of our stuff inside. We had to call her to come unlock the door a couple times. Hot tub was very nice and used on the first night we arrived. Neighborhood was pretty quiet for being as close to UMD as we were. We had a great time.

We planned a weekend in Duluth to go to Bentleyville with friends. We enjoyed the hot tub each night with a view of the lake. There was not very detailed check-in/check-out directions. The email and app said that the host would meet us at the door when we arrived, but I sent multiple texts and calls to tell them when we arrived, and did not get ahold of anyone for 30+ minutes. Once we were in, we were informed that the oven was broken, so we had to order food for delivery. The freezer door was also broken and wouldn’t stay shut. The house did not seem to be professionally cleaned as most places are when you arrive. The bathroom counter was covered in hair and the floors were not vacuumed. The driveway is on a hill, which made it difficult to park a car in the driveway after it snowed, so we parked across the road. Overall, this place has plenty of sleeping room for larger parties, and would be a great place in the summer to use the deck and large backyard.

My husband, FIL, two adult children and their significant others enjoyed a 3-day weekend in Duluth. This place was spacious, had a beautiful view, and a fabulous deck!
Our only complaints were: WE needed one more bathroom (lol) and seating (both living room and dining) wasn’t set up for a large number of people (note: we did see the hosts attempt to accommodate for that).
The hosts left written instructions and were responsive to questions during our stay.
The hot tub was a BONUS as was the large backyard. Given another large family trip we would check into availability of this listing.

The place fit our needs perfectly. We had planned for 7, but in the end only 4 of us came. There’s was plenty of room for more. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, and sitting on the deck watching the sunrise over the lake as we sipped our morning coffee. The location was quiet and convenient. The owners were very friendly and responsive. I loved all the little touches that made the decor cozy and special. We all had a great stay.
