Really nice/hospitable hotel in a relaxing environment - pillows not comfortable was our only fault.

Clontarf Castle was a fun way to end our Ireland trip. It was located close to the airport. My only complaint is that compared to other 'castle hotels' some of the rooms resembled typical bland hotel rooms (our room was an upgrade but our travel companions had a very basic room).
The lobby can by loud when the hotel is busy. All in all I would 100% stay here again.

This was our first time to Ireland and the UK. One of the things we learned were the beds are different than the USA. The room we booked had two twins pushed together, and they were so comfortable compared to the Chain hotels we stayed in the rest of our travels. The restaurants are amazing, service was fast and the food was very good.

This was a 5-star experience. The hotel was beautiful and had great add-ons for breakfast as well as dinner service. The staff was very friendly, accommodating and very attentive to any needs that I had. It was a perfect stay to wrap up my trip in Dublin and I wish that I had stayed longer. There was nothing that I could have asked more of from this stay.

We flew into Dublin and were staying only one night before traveling on to Kilkenny, so Clontarf was perfect as we did not want to be directly in the city. The hotel was very welcoming, we arrived several hours early and they were able to accommodate us. It was just a short taxi ride to the city to see a few sights. Once back at the hotel, we went to the bar for drinks and a few snacks. Breakfast was quick and everything we needed before the rest of our journey around Ireland began. We would stay at Clontarf again for sure.

We were excited to end our anniversary trip in Ireland with a night at the Clontarf Castle Hotel. Staying a night at a castle seemed the perfect way to end our incredible trip.
Good:
Everything looked as advertised. The history was there on display; there was some beautiful art and other artifacts. The room I booked through Hotels.com looked like the room I got.
Some of the staff were at the level I'd expect for this type of hotel.
Not so good:
Our rooms weren't ready when we arrived; we were told we'd be informed when they were ready but I had to go ask. The bed was on rollers and wouldn't stay put (we tried!) There was a mini-bar fridge but nothing in it. There were no toiletries in the room, you have to request them separately. There was no air circulation in the room.
The food was not great. We did the lunch buffet & that was probably the best food we had there. For dinner, we tried to go to the hotel restaurant but were turned away for not having a reservation; the host was pretty rude about it. We went to the more pub-like restaurant but the vibe there was very kitsch, felt aimed at older American tourists. The menu was really mid, the tables were dirty and service was unbearably slow. We tried a signature cocktail, soup and salad & decided to leave & try room service. The wine was corked, the burger was dry, the cheese plate selection was odd.
We received a refund for one of our meals upon checkout.
We wanted to love this place, but we just couldn't.

Hotel is beautiful just like the photos! However they had private events there the entire time we stayed which made it feel less castle like and more venue like. They had a lounge that was closed every night for these other private events. Basically you are 4 miles from the city center with nothing to do in the hotel. On their website it says there’s a shuttle but that’s not accurate, you have to walk a few blocks to the local bus, which is fine since we were there to explore Dublin, however a cab back to the hotel is about 20-30 eur because the bus does not leave you where most attractions are so you either take another bus or walk. Hotel was basically too far and too boring! We did eat at the one place you can eat there, since the other one is a “fancy” restaurant and you need reservations, but we gladly ate, service was good and great food! Rooms were very clean, but outdated and their USB plugs didn’t work. Also their blow dryer was attached inside a drawer in their tv stand, which is super odd and inconvenient. Breakfast buffet was cute, not many options but you would not be hungry leaving there. Check times as Sundays they open later! We weren’t aware had to catch a flight and couldn’t eat beforehand since it opened later then every other day we were there.( to be fair that could have been our lack of reading since they had a huge binder of everything you need to know). Their free WiFi is terrible! Went in and out.

The Staff was tremendous and the castle gorgeous!

I was disappointed in the fact that it was more a hotel than a castle. Additionally, the castle hotel is located in the suburbs which resulted in expensive Uber rides to Dublin’s attractions. The castle hotel’s didn’t work on one of the days I was there.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. Mary Elaina went out of her way to be especially accommodating. Knights Bar in the hotel is a great place to eat.
