Second time we have enjoyed a pre Christmas break at The Belsfield and we are already planning a return.
The hotel was tastefully festive and very inviting. This down to the hotel itself and the efficient and friendly staff.
We had a 1st floor room overlooking the lake and the room was of a good standard.
It was comfortable clean and the shower was outstanding.
Breakfast was excellent with bags of choice and we also enjoyed an evening meal at the hotel. Well cooked, great value for money and served with a smile.
Already looking forward to our next visitđź‘Ť

Very tasty breakfast.

We weren’t told parking was an extra charge until we checked out and was charged £30 for 2 nights. TV in rooms need upgrading

From the moment we pulled into the car park we had a great welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were brilliant for the whole stay. We had a 4 poster room which have amazing views of the lake. Breakfast was very good with great choices and perfectly cooked hot selection. Service was 5 star.

The stay was good and the staff were very helpful with only one minor issue. Due to condensation within the bedroom window we opened it, but builders were painting the roof directly outside with a roof sealant and there were very strong fumes in the room when we returned later

Lake view room blocked by overgrown hedges . Miles down corridor to room 16. Up and down stairs . My mum is 80! Guy at door/reception helping with bags was lovely and very helpful x

The hotel is tired and not very clean. Staff are chaotic and can be unhelpful. Not at check in. No food after 8.30. Crisps 2.80 per packet. Workmen on roof outside window at eye level with window.

Very helpful and polite staff. Room clean and well decorated, only downside looked over car park no lake. Breakfast was very good and plenty of it. Only down fall was mattress very soft so my husband and myself didn’t sleep well. Need curtains as shutters didn’t close well so room was very dark.

Very good stay only spoilt by the poor service in the evening meal on Thursday.

I do not understand how this hotel maintains a 4 Star rating. The room was very small, no Aircon, no fridge, not even tissue in the bathroom.
The rooms were very expensive and they charged an extra 15 Pounds per night for parking. Yes, the view was lovely from the dining room windows, but not from our room.
Breakfast was always a comedy of errors. The staff did not seem to prepare for breakfast ahead of time, waiting until things stopped working (the coffee machine) or ran out before refilling. The English breakfast was served with grossly over cooked eggs, bacon and sausages. Eggs Benidict was served with cold ham and Bearnaise sauce was cold and made from a packet and poached eggs were cooked as hard as rocks. Definitely some work to be done with kitchen staff training and quality.
One evening I went to the bar. I asked to have a cocktail from their menu, it seemed as if I was the first person this season to ask for one. It took over 1/2 an hour to make it, at least two people were involved and the end result was one of the worst tasting cocktails I have ever had.
To end on a high note, we had beautiful weather and wonderful meals in restaurants in Bowness and Windermere (not in the Belsfield). I will return to the Lake District in the future, but the Belsfield Hotel will not be in my plans.

Not at all what we expected.
Check in was very slow and one of the guys on the desk looked very scruffy in an ill fitted suit.
The bedroom was very tired with paper peeling off the walls. We were very disappointed.
A shower head that kept dripping water throughout the night and a squeaky bed!
The downstairs areas of the hotel were nice however. Although breakfast was not as advertised on the menu and was cold. We would have sent it back had we not had to rush off for a booked activity.
Expected better from this grand looking hotel with glorious views for a birthday stay. There are far nicer, luxurious hotels/rooms nearby by at far better prices.

We had a lovely stay at your hotel. However, on entering our room we noticed a large stain on the carpet by the patio doors, the colour suggests it was lipstick or nail varnish. We headed into town, which was only a short walk away. The room was large, as was the bed which was really comfortable. In the morning, we noticed a leak in the bathroom, coming from the back of the toilet- as we were only staying one night we only mentioned this on checkout. We headed down for breakfast, just before 10am. There was no one at the enhance to the dining room so we had to wait, however we were seated at a table overlooking the lake so we didn't mind. We were told about the continental breakfast and told someone would be back to take our hot order. Heading over to the continental selection, there was no glasses for juice, no cups for coffee, no plates and no butter. After finally receiving everything we needed we enjoyed the selection on offer. We were again disappointed to have to ask for someone to take our hot order. This is not what we would have expected from an establishment such as yours.

This property is a beautiful building but very tired and needs decorating and new carpets. It was short staffed, although the staff was really good but overworked due to the shortage.

Visit didn’t start well. Problem with dinner said we could just go into the restaurant not needing to book.
After spending time on the terrace when we went for a table we were turned away (party of 6, one using a walking aid). Saying not enough staff. Only after complaining were we accommodated in the Brassiere and did then have a very nice attentive waitress.
A few other niggles they ran out of Prosecco and when we asked for decaffeinates coffee at the first breakfast we were told they didn’t have any, but then told, after we complained, that they had found some.
Place sees to be struggling from tired decor and lack of staff.
Beautiful terrace and view over the lake

The family room is spacious but old. The location is great. We told the reception that we had to leave early at 6 AM. The lady reception told us that she could arrange 5 boxes for breakfast set (fruits & some pastries). She said she put the note in and handover to another team. On the departure date, no one knows about this breakfast box. It is a bit disappointed.
2.0
Lack of staff meant service was poor. Took 30 minutes for a cup of tea to be served when we arrived. Similar deal with breakfast where it took over 40 minutes to deliver hot breakfast and the items on the plate did not match the menu. This was all whilst the restaurant was not busy.
As for the room, there was an AC unit which didn’t work and when we asked reception about it, we were told this was not included in our room. Strange for a £200+ a night room but the least of the problems really.
In the room, there were stains on the skirting boards from where previous tenants had missed the bins with their tea bags and they had not been cleaned.
When we requested our room be serviced, we returned to an untouched room at 3.30pm. When we raised this issue, we returned after dinner to an unmade bed and still dirty cups in the room. Only services completed were change of towel and empty bin.
Overall, very poor for the price.

Beautiful property with breathtaking lake views. Walkable into town with great food/bars and shopping!

The hotel is very tired and need a lot of money spending to bring it up to date.
The food was pub grub as opposed to fine dining which was always available at the hotel. Very poor .

We booked this hotel for our 25th Anniversary, as I had proposed to my now wife in this hotel 27 years ago. And I wish I hadn’t booked it again. To say this it was better then, than it is now, grounds immaculate, the building looks tired and dull. The interior has been refreshed but to a poor standard. Check in was ok. Got to the room and the bathroom very small, when sitting on the toilet, and dirty tiles with black mould on the grouting. Very small samples of gel and shampoo. Not replaced during our 3 night stay, One plus, the room did have a good view of the grounds and lake. Breakfast, expected better, the cooked options were served by waiters and continental, help yourself. Food was dry and poor. Once we finally got it. We were shown to our table and the forgotten about and had to call waiters after 10 mins, just to get tea or coffee. On our 3 mornings greeted by different staff on each day. Only 2 staff on waiting and greeting, so many were just walking in a taking reserved tables, and then being shouted at to move, Grossly understaffed! On arrival back from days out, the bar is deserted no staff about to get a drink. Considering it close to £300 per room per night for this, don’t bother!

We chose the Belsfield for our honeymoon and it did not disappoint.
We stayed in room 66 overlooking the lake and it was perfect. Huge four poster bed, chandelier, sofa and dining table looking out of the window, amazing bathroom with a huge freestanding bath, enormous shower, and separate toilet.
If you prefer a contemporary hotel, this is not the hotel for you. It is old fashioned and classic, but that just adds to the glamour. Some parts of the hotel are a little worn, but that is to be expected at a property this old.
The location is simply perfect. You wake up to the lake, and can be on the shore or in Bowness in three minutes. It is also a really pleasant stroll.
The staff are lovely. My hairdryer died at 1am, and within 5 minutes of me calling the front desk, another had arrived.
The only minor downside to the hotel is that their room service menu after 9pm isn’t great. But I can’t grumble about that!
Overall we literally had the perfect honeymoon and can’t wait to go back again. The hotel, location, and people were all lovely- thank you very much to the Belsfield for making our honeymoon so special.

The Belsfield Hotel, from outside, building looks nice but inside was not up to the standard it should be.
We went straight to walking after checked in. On return, we went to shower, as we started open tap, it began to flood. I reported to hotel but they couldn’t fix it immediately. In half shower, we were moved in to other room.
In the room, bed sheets and duvet covers were not replaced, there were still poo in the toilet on arrival. There were still food and coffee stains on the table and chairs. Entertainment tv quality was very poor.
Service was not good at all, food were ok but highly priced
We did not enjoy our stay in such a pricy and premium hotel which we arrived with a high expectation.
I wouldn’t recommend to my family and friends in terms of accommodation and services provided to us.
Therefore, I rate only one star.

Great location. We stayed in a renovated room but it was tired. Booked 2 rooms. Paid the same price but the 2nd room was worse.

Room was quite small and toilet very small and warm areas not so clean in toilet shower area
No sockets at bedside all across otger side of room not convenient
No air conditioning in room and no fans available very hot in room with weather being hot
Im not usually that fussy at all but for the price you pay i realy did expect more beautiful hotel and setting and would love to stay again if it gets better with refurb in april bit that usually puts prices up the boy at the horse box bar in gardens beautiful person and great service
The boy in dining area was great very helpful leon and basicly saved the day as the rest that were on this morning 26th june just ignored us even the supervisor stood talking with a couple and we were staning at door for 10 minutes she was there talking for about 30 mins and all the tables were full of used dishes leon helped us out well done sone probably the youngest there stephen front of house manager was clearly day off today and it showed good luck stephen making the changes it can only be fir the better

Needs a serious update, staff were stretched with two weddings so it seemed other guests had to wait. Great position but needs investment.

The Location is excellent .However we arrived on the Sunday and the hotel seemed to be short of staff. The staff seemed keen but also seemed to be untrained. The Carpets were not clean and the rooms looked tired.his is a hotel which promises much does not appear to be managed very well.Overall we were very dissapointed.

Excellent location just above the little harbour where the tourboats are.
4.0
We had a spacious room with great view. However the hotel is in dire need of a facelift and Renovations. Our room was tired and dowdy, and the windows covered in bird poo. The air conditioning did not work and we opened the windows after which some birds flew into the room! There was no Kleenex in the room. Housekeeping service was poor, seemingly making the bed and doing nothing else.
Staff was friendly and some were helpful however some did nothing to assist our requests (eg for window cleaning) despite several requests.

I always love staying in this hotel. The old grand building is stunning and the rooms are fitted out very nice. The location is fantastic with great views overlooking Lake Windermere. I was charged ÂŁ30 to park my car for 2 nights which was disappointing

The hotel surroundings are beautiful and the inside is very nice. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. The staff was curt and rude. They didn't inform me when housekeeping would be closed and not accommodating.
It was very disappointing.

After paying ÂŁ450 for 2 nights B&B which included an upgrade for lake view, we felt the room was small (you could not enter/exit the bathroom if the wardrobe door was open) An additional cost was ÂŁ15.00 per day to park in the hotel car park. We felt the room could have had more small touches ie tissues, biscuits with the tea/coffee and then be replenished after use. The room carpet looked like it needed a good cleaning. Overall we did not think it represented value for money, it is clearly relying on its location for the cost.

Tail of two sides.
Plus - perfect location, staff friendly and food excellent.
Negative - the room we had, a garden view room was tiny, very tired with heating, air con and towel rail not working and due to trees was very dark. Carpet worn and dirty I have seen better and bigger rooms in Premier Inns at a fraction of cost.
We did talk to reception who offered another room for one night but we would have to move back next day.
Overall impression of hotel was lovely in a great location, just in need of an update which even the staff kept talking about for later this year or next
8.0
Great location, excellent parking options. Disappointed with the room compared to the rest of the hotel. Room was very run down.
