We spent a happy week at the hotel as a base for a family reunion. Easily walkable into Lucca, parking easy outside and with overflow, and nice breakfast in the patio. Friendly staff with great recommendations. Only complaint is that rooms are rather basic, could use a refresh.

Location

The property was very nice and friendly staff. It is far from the train station (30 minutes walk); 10 minutes to the entrance of the old city.

The staff was very freindly and it is well-located just a few minutes walk to inside the walls of the city.

Room was small but clean, breakfust was too sweet.

A quiet hotel situated about 15 minutes walk from the centre of the walled city of Lucca, providing all you would expect from that category of hotel. Staff are very friendly and particularly helpful. We walked from the train station (20 minutes). The local public authority do not believe in laying out proper pavements, most of the pedestrian areas are simply loose stones which are a nightmare to traverse pulling suitcases ( this is NOT the fault of the hotel), so best advise to prospective guests is to take a taxi (5minutes).

They even had soya milk for me.. i normally have to supply my own - no big deal but the fact that they had soya and even rice milk is an example of how well thought they are.

This is a very nice hotel with attentive staff. There is a library with lots of old books about Lucca's history, a lounge with TV, and there is a resident calico cat. There is some nice modern artwork, and a good breakfast for 8 euros per day. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk from the train station, which is a bit inconvenient, though I am sure there is a bus if I had had the patience to figure it out. More importantly, it is just about a 10 minute walk into the historic walled city. For about half the price of staying in the old city, this is a great deal. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel are some restaurants, a gelato shop, and grocery stores. It is a real Italian neighborhood, and pretty quiet at night. There is a nice courtyard for breakfast. I would definitely stay here again. The first night I stayed in the room on the first floor off the courtyard and I would not stay there again due to lack of privacy, and noise from voices and an air conditioner unit. In the cold months it might be fine.

Small rooms, lousy breakfast but very friendly staff.

Hotel Bernadino was a comfortable, convenient place to stay in Lucca. The rooms are small but comfortable, and a really good breakfast was included in the price. You can rent bikes at the hotel, and bike into the city in less than 10 minutes.

I had a very pleasant stay here - slight hiccup on arrival as they couldn't find my booking and then thought I was only staying for one night; but the upshot was I got a double room instead of a single so I was quite happy with that! The location was great - a 20 minute walk to the station and frequent trains to Pisa, Florence and other Tuscan destinations, but there is plenty to see and do in Lucca too, with dozens of restaurants to choose from.

Staff were very friendly and helpful here. However the room was incredibly small. Also it's a good ten minutes walk to get to the walls of Lucca so I wouldn't stay outside the old city again.

I had a very pleasant stay at the hotel in October. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. It waseasy to access all areas from here as within short walking distance.

We booked a wheelchair accessible room. In fact the hotel proper is not accessible. The room we got was in back of the main hotel and was shabby. It was the first hotel we've stayed at in Italy that lacked a fridge. There was no Internet in the room. Granted this is a 3 star and the others have been 4 star. The door to the bathroom wedged against the floor when only part way open so there was little room to get a small mobility scooter through. The shower stool was a thin plastic and didn't seem safe to use. Breakfast was minimal, again maybe a 3 star vs 4 star. Finally from a safety point of view, if you wanted to lock the door for the night, you had to use a key. If there was a fire, you would have to use the key to unlock it before you could open the door.

Great little place to stay- not fancy but very clean and comfortable. Staff exceptionally helpful. A seven minute walk to the old city. We plan to stay there again when we return to Lucca. Would highly recommend this place!

Only snag, it's a 500m walk to the nearest city gate (Porta Elisa) and then quite a bit more walking to the centre of Lucca. We didn't feel like doing it twice a day in the heat so in the evenings ate in a small local restaurant just down the street. And it was a bit too much of a slog to walk in for an evening Puccini concert. And no bus service into town though we took a taxi a couple of times.

This is a good hotel a short walk from the historic centre. On site car parking is minimal but this is the second stay I have made and found parking quite straightforward in the locality, but do arrive not before 5.30pm. I will certainly stay here again when I visit Lucca.Nice room and good breakfast buffet.

The staff speak good English, breakfast is continental, they clean the room daily. Inside the city wall is the restaurant Bernadino , the food is fresh, cooked beautifully and well presented again the staff here are only to pleased to serve you. From outside the hotel turn right then left and there is a great pizza place with tables outside and fairy lights and on the opposite side of the road is a fantastic ice cream and chocolate shop. From Lucca you can get the train to Florence very reasonable. We hired a car and al the villages were lovely Pratto is reasonable for shopping. Pisa is also lovely.

This no frills room in a no frills hotel is right in the middle of historic Florence. Its a five minute walk to the Duomo in one direction and a five minute walk to the Uffizi Gallery in the other direction. The rooms are small and spartan, and the street noise is always loud; great if you like being in the middle of the action, a challenge if you want a place to rest between visits to the museums and churches.

The hotel has some but limited parking on their premises (4 cars max). Others must park on the street. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to downtown but their are a few local restaurants, pizzerias nearby. Breakfast was typical for this type of establishment (Cakes, breads, hard-boiled eggs, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal, milk, juice and coffee, etc.). Would stay again.

The only area I wish they would improve on is the WI-FI. Not available in the rooms. We had an early train to catch before the breakfast buffet was open, so the staff opened up just for us. We were able tro get coffie, pastry and a roll. I WILL stay there next year again.
