Make sure you get the bigger room so you have somewhere to put your clothes. Also no irons. Some of the staff are too hip to smile and don’t rely on the coffee shop to be open in the morning. Having said that, better than most of the standard options in Providence.

I walked in here already angry because I paid for my room in advance, and the week before the price dropped and the hotel wasn’t willing to match the new lower price.
After checking in I mentioned to the desk clerk “the website says there is a free cocktail” and then they rolled their eyes and said, “Ughhhhh, fine, I can do that.” Seriously? Then proceeds to tell me, “Well our bar isn’t open tonight.” False advertising.
The room was tiny, fine for one person but two would be a nightmare. Ripped up rug and scratched up hardwood floors are supposed to be artsy/cool but look trashy. Creepy painting on the wall. Nightmare vintage elevator.
Positives were the Bath products smelled great, room was clean, and the location was great to walk around downtown.

I love a boutique hotel for all its quirks. Love the wooden floor. Similar to my house. Bed was comfy. Blinds in the room made it plenty dark. Shower was a bit too small. Coffee in lobby cafe was good. Honestly, no complaints. Plenty of street parking for my car. Walking distance to everything I needed.

Couple. 2 night stay.
Reception staff friendly and helpful.
Parking was busy and expensive.
Room was clean. Bed was comfortable but could do with more pillows as there was a gap between the bed and headboard.
Windows in room are alarmed so cannot open. Cooling fan in window worked fine. We couldn't work the heater fan in the room.
Restroom was clean but small, and sliding door left a gap where the bedroom area was visible.
Small TV worked great.
Would stay again.

I regret booking The Dean for our downtown Providence trip. The room did not reflect the photos on their website, there is no minibar (the front desk collects anything you need to be refrigerated or frozen - which is iffy because when I was waiting to retrieve my ice packs someone was picking up their leftovers and they said something in that bag wasn't theirs, use that service at your discretion), the central ac unit was broken (so our room had a window ac, which allowed extra noise from the outside in, but not only that smoke and the smell of marijuana from outside too). We requested cribs for our children and the cribs were mismatched, and soiled - I had to call for extra linens to line the cribs because housekeeping did not do that for the babies. On the subject of babies, if you're traveling with children or small babies, they have a very small lift with the metal sliding doors, so be careful with the little fingers and toes. The room we stayed in seemed like it could use some cleaning also, there were dust under the bed and the bedsheet was stained. To communicate with the downstairs staff you either have to leave your room and use a community phone or call/text a number (I tried the text and no one reponded to me, so I had to call). Overall, not the best experience staying at The Dean - unfortunately will not be coming back or recommending this place.

tiny room, window doesn't close, loud and cold, elevator old and difficult to operate

This hotel was super comfortable and quite stylish. It is walking distance to many places which is very convenient. The room was clean and spacious. I highly recommend for your next trip to Providence.

The young woman who checked us in was lovely and attentive. It was late when we arrived and we were tired. She brought us a bucket of ice and, when we realized our heater didn't work, she brought us a space heater and assured us they'd have maintenance check it in the morning. However, the next day we learned the heat was nor working throughout the floor. We spent 2 very cold, uncomfortable nights. The young man working the following day seemed bored and indifferent to his job. I called downstairs after seeing him at the desk and he did not answer the phone. I called a dozen times with no answer. I finally had to walk out to the hallway to call from the dedicated front desk phone. The hotel has much charm but we won't return.

When I visit Providence from NYC, I stay at The Dean exclusively, because it IS an exclusive boutique hotel!! My favorite thing to do on the morning is roll out of my luxurious King suite and come down to the lobby for locally made Knead doughnuts and Bolt Coffee! Having a cafe right in the lobby is quite the amenity. The cafe is open til noon everyday and offers a great workspace with plenty of reading material. The vintage ceramic tile floor offers unique charm of a bygone era. The concierge at the front desk is always friendly and accommodating - delivering an electric kettle to my room upon request. The Dean has become my home away from home! Always impeccable, well appointed and never to disappoint!! A treasured gem for sure!

Everything is great except the area around the hotel is loud out back and the rooms have very thin walls. I heard people up and down the street and didn’t sleep much. The hotel is pretty and staff is great. It’s more for style though and not for comfort.

This hotel is no better than a 2 star. I would not recommend this if you have other options. Cramped rooms, no desk, no place to unpack. The bathroom is claustrophobic and the shower is a drizzle. Cheap towels. I regretted this.

Cozy boutique hotel with great atmosphere!

Loved the staff and bar.
Wish there were more electrical outlets in the room and a mirror in the room by the desk with good lighting. But will be back.

The hotel has got great design and it’s located in the heart of the city but that’s pretty much it. Our room is located right above a karaoke club (still couldn’t fathom why you would have one in the hotel) so you could imagine how noisy it had been for the entire stay. Also the room had not been vacuumed for days where you can see dust everywhere, let alone the carpet in the “suite” area of the room. If you’re in your 20s and didn’t mind the partying and noise of the drunks and reckless junkies on the street, this is the place for you. Definitely not worth the money we paid; best yet Parking is NOT included

Unique, urban chic property. Comfortable, clean and affordable.

The speakeasy bar was great! My room was old, quaint. Felt like i was back in the 1920's! Easy walk to Waterfire (which was excellent).

The room was tiny and the service wasn’t great. The shower wasn’t great and the floor in the room was sticky. The view from both windows was poor and they were dirty. We expect a higher level of service and amenities when the hotel markets itself as a “boutique hotel.” Would not recommend.

The Dean hotel is a fun and magical place. From the outstanding front desk clerk James to our check out it was a wonderful experience. The clever speakeasy on property felt like you were going back decades. It was lovely and then there is the karaoke bar, oh my gosh, what fun! very nice little special touches from a handwritten welcome to a couple of boxes of Freewater. It was a wonderful stay

Everything was pretty good… but the shower is tiny, had just a curtain, and water goes all over the bathroom

Service was great but rooms were subpar. The floors were sticky and bathroom was so small! Each time I used the shower, the water wasn’t draining properly so it would get all over the bathroom floor. The towels smelled fishy and sheets had holes!!

Perfectly situated. Clean, with friendly staff.

The front desk agent Grace was very helpful and suggested restaurants around the area to eat. She let me know via text when my room was ready and placed my bags in the room while I grabbed food from the near by restaurant Murphys. She also shared how to walk over to Brown University since I was waiting for my husband and son to arrive so I could check out the campus before they got in town

Our room did not have air conditioning, and there were stains on the linens. Hotel is dated and leaves much to be desired.

Beautiful place , loved everything and every details . We were delayed due to our flights and it was very easy to communicate with the hotel staff will recommend to everyone

No storage in room (i.e. no closet or dresser), lack of seating, uncomfortable seating, tiny bathroom with only rain showerhead option, no dining services, priced too high for services, experience, room decor "cheap" looking

Good pricein the middle of downtown.

Loved the speakeasy in the lower level. Fit right in with the look of the property

We had a great stay at the Dean hotel. The front staff was welcoming and helped us figure out parking. It’s located in a safe area downtown. The hotel was extremely clean and had great air-conditioning.

Our stay was enjoyable but I wouldn’t recommend for families with young kids.

Nice use of antiques and art - intentionally shabby chic.

Was in town for a event and it was easy to get to and from especially to the Amtrak.

I would probably stay here again - the big plusses are the location (center of downtown), the room was large and clean, and the bed was very very comfortable - and that is at the top of my list! However, there were some small annoyances that added up. The wifi (included) was pretty terrible, we could not use it at all. Might be connected to the router that was just dangling from a cord on the wall in our hallway lol. The shower was very hard to use with a curtain that didn't really keep the water in - each time we used it our bathroom was flooded, and ther were no extra towels to mop up. The coffee bar in the lobby (coffee for purchase) was not open the last day we were there, and there was no other coffee available. There was no trashcan in the room, and our garbage piled up.
These are all minor things but by the end of our stay we felt a bit underwhelmed by the experience. The staff in general was very pleasant and friendly!

The DEAN is a good hotel in downtown Providence. Go here if you enjoy staying in a smaller hotel. The hotel is in a historic building, adding some extra charm. The room was relatively small, but more than big enough for me, traveling solo.
The hotel should improve three things. First being the WIFI, this is unusable, very slow and often providing no internet connection. Second, the duvets have seen better days, and the filling is lumping together, which is not the most comfortable. Lastly, the hotel uses wind frame mounted airconditioning units, these are loud, and do not allow you to close the window fully. This is annoying, as some terraces are located close to the hotel which kept me awake for one night during my stay.
2.0
I do feel that The Dean is overpriced; however, the staff was excellent. Very friendly, very helpful, polite. They gave me vouchers for drinks at their bar for my two night stay. I don’t really drink alcohol so it’s nice that you could choose coffee in the morning. The decor was lovely. Not sure if it’s every room, but my room did not have a fridge which was disappointing.
I would def stay here again. The staff made my visit worth it.
