About this bed and breakfast

Catbird Cottage - 3BR 2BA renovated gem near Acadia NP.

Catbird Cottage is a delightful getaway just a 5 minute walk from Frenchman's Bay, located near Hulls Cove and only 2 miles from Acadia National Park's Visitor Center. The downtown of Bar Harbor is about 10 minutes away along a scenic waterfront road. Most of the other attractions of Mount Desert Island, like Northeast Harbor and Jordan Pond are minutes away. Be sure to bring your bikes and kayaks to get the full experience of MDI's waterways and Carriage Roads.

Our classic 1928 home features a spacious and well-equipped kitchen perfect for preparing your own lobster dinner, and there's a breakfast nook you'll enjoy waking up to. The dining room seats six at its Danish solid oak farmhouse table. A cozy living room is great for reading a book and evening conversations. The practical den with TV is great place for kids to play, and a breezy enclosed front porch is where you may end up spending most of your time. Upstairs you'll find a roomy master bedroom, a comfortable queen room, and an adorable twin room.(Sleeps 5) The upstairs bathroom is vintage 1920's with a clawfoot tub and chrome fixtures.

The 1800 sq.foot house is newly renovated in 2021 and all appliances are new. The laundry room features a stacking LG washer and dryer next to a laundry folding counter. The mudroom features a small work desk with a nondescript background- perfect if you need to Zoom for work- no one will know you're in Maine!

A mere 5 minute walk from the house is a breathtaking view of Frenchman's bay where you may see seals hunting for their breakfast. At low tide you can walk (be careful, the rocky shore can be slippery) about a mile to The Ovens, which are sea caves and rock formations that are usually difficult to access.

We showed up at the house with tons of character! It had all amenities but felt sticky and looked dirty. Unfortunately the temperatures were close to 90 degrees and this house has no A/C which is accurate in its list of amenities. However, there is zero ventilation with the stove which I think became a law requirement in rentals in Maine two years ago. We cooked lobsters and we found out why the house was sticky and felt like we were in a hot box. NO VENTILATION OVER STOVE! You can't cook. To top it off-my son is allergic to shellfish-anaphylactic shock type. I had 3 epidural pens and Benadryl with me. He started not to feel well and stayed outside. Beforehand, the rental company did bring us two fans-wonderful! But the more windows we opened bugs flew in by the droves. Several rooms became infested. We were having a wonderful time but would have to come back to this bug infested, unventilated, dirty cottage. We found some other place to stay and checked out early from our weekly rental. This house was terrible for hot weather and our circumstances. I have not heard back from anyone in regard to a partial refund-nothing. I would never rent this house until some changes are made. It was filthy! My teenage sons even remarked how bad it was. Cute house! You can tell the owners have worked on it to keep the character-which is impressive from the pics and in person. Its needs MORE TLC. It was not cheap either! There are better places to stay in Maine. Really disappointing&shocked!

Overall the house was very nice, clean and well supplied. Was disappointed that the lawn was not tended, and I had to sweep off the back porch on arrival, as it was covered with leaves, etc. The beach access was also too difficult for seniors, so we were unable to use it.
