About this house rental
This hundred year old home is a 15 minute stroll over a picturesque footbridge, into the heart of the Village. The house has been divided into two single bedroom units, one upstairs, the other downstairs.
I am currently renting the first floor apartment. It has its own entrance through the back door and can accommodate up to four people. The bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a sleeper sofa in the living room. (Please note: Bathroom access for bedroom is through the living room.) The bathroom has a tub with shower. Though there is no dishwasher or laundry service, there is a full kitchen, TV, free WiFi, and access to a spacious yard equipped with table and chairs for outside dining. Window fans and a cross breeze provide ventilation. On street parking. Property owner lives on site in a cottage at the rear of the property.
The Village hosts great restaurants and shops, Stonington Lighthouse Museum, Library, playground, La Grua Arts and Cultural Center, and CT’s only commercial fishing fleet. Extensive trails for nature walks nearby.
Be sure to visit the Stonington Village Farmer’s Market: Every Sat., 9:00 a.m.-noon from May through the end of Oct. On Nov. 1st the Farmer’s Market moves indoors to the Velvet Mill, 22 Bayview Ave., 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The Velvet Mill is a 10 minute walk and in addition to housing the winter farmer’s market, is a creative community of entrepreneurs & small business, Arts & Crafts, Health & Healing services, artisan bakery, micro brewery, and weekend crafts and vintage market.
In Mystic, you will find the Mystic Seaport, the Mystic Aquarium, a YMCA, and plenty of shops and restaurants. Golf courses are 15 minutes away. Rhode Island beaches are just 15-20 minutes away (12 miles). Foxwoods Casino and Factory Store Mall and Mohegan Sun Casino and Performance Center are also approximately 15-20 minutes away.
10 minute drive to Mystic or Westerly Amtrak train stations, as well as I-95.

We have stayed here several times and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The apartment is private in a quiet neighborhood. We liked being able to walk to the local farmers market and Saltwater Farm Vineyard is just down the street. We can’t wait to return.

We vacation in RI every summer and have rented places in a number of towns, including Stonington, CT. This area is our favorite as it's close enough to the beaches yet has more to do and see than staying closer to our favorite beach (Blue Shutters). The proximity to Mystic, historic Stonington, Westerly, Charlestown, Narragansett, and Newport made it a great option, and the flat itself was quite enjoyable. Dorothy was very kind and always available if needed, and having things like bedding and bath towels provided was very helpful. This unit is great for a couple or perhaps a child or two, but the sofa bed didn't seem like a viable option for adults so it would be better suited for the kiddos. We enjoyed the various vintage/antique items as well as having a smart tv for before bed. The hot water supply made it through three showers in a row so that was a huge bonus. The bathroom itself was only a couple small tweaks away from being great, but overall served our needs well. We enjoyed our stay in Dorothy's place.

This was an enjoyable, comfortable first-floor stay in this house on a street off the highway into Stonington. Comfortable living room and bedroom to hang out. Very pleasant and with a welcoming host.

Cute apartment in old house. If staying in the summer months, beware there is no AC. Yes, there is a cross breeze and ceiling fans however, if there is high humidity and raining, it can be quite warm and uncomfortable.
As far as cleanliness, everything was clean for the most part.
Overall, not a bad place to stay for the price.

My partner and I stayed here during a historic heat wave that no one, including our host, could have anticipated would hit CT as hard as it did. That being said, I definitely didn't read the description well enough and assumed there would be AC or some kind of cooling machine present. There isn't and it made it a bit difficult to be comfortable, especially at night. The windows and ceiling fans helped a lot but it was too loud in the morning to keep them open, unfortunately. Also, the wifi was barely strong enough to load anything, which presented some issues in getting directions and providing entertainment. That being said, those issues did not detract from our enjoyment! We made good use of the board games that were provided and stayed out in the neighboring towns most of the days anyway. I think walking to downtown Stonington would have been too difficult in the heat, but we did manage to walk to the nearby shopping arcade and loved the restaurant we ate at. It was overall a very cute trip for a great price.

We were booked in for a one night stay and found everything as described. The house was clean and tidy, Dorothy our host, had opened screened windows and turned on ceiling fans ahead of our arrival. Thank You Dorothy! That made a lovely difference on a hot day! The bedding was delightful, crisp and fresh and the bed comfortable. Would stay again if ever in the area.

A visit with local family and friends. The house was a haven for us to stay. The property is as described and pictured. Dorothy, the owner was pleasant and within a text message away. She respected our privacy but was available to assist if needed. Parking was very convenient and well lit at night. Motion activated lights on the walkway and porch were very helpful for evening returns to the home. We would definitely stay here again when we return to the area.

Our stay at Dorothy's place was perfect! The location cannot be beat, just a beautiful 15-20 minute walk to downtown Stonington Village. We loved the cozy feel and it was perfect for myself and my fiancé. It had everything we needed. Communication was wonderful. Would highly recommend for anyone paying a visit to this beautiful part of the world!

The location was perfect for the wedding we attended at Saltwater Farm Vineyard on Saturday. We were able to checkin at 2 pm which was great! We dropped our bags and drove into Stonington Borough to explore. Cute little town with a few good looking restaurants. I wished the road leading into town was less busy or we definitely would’ve walked. We decided to head into Mystic which was very close. We ate at Red36 which we highly recommend. Parking is easy with no time limit so after we ate we were able to stroll into town without having to move our car.
The apartment was spacious and yes older but clean and had everything we needed. Plenty of paper goods and fresh towels too. Dorothy said there may be family staying upstairs but we didn’t notice anyone while we were there. Parking on the street was fine. My only suggestion would be to have the tub reglazed and some new grout would make the bath feel a little spiffier and more sanitary. Don’t get me wrong it was clean but could use a little attention.
The location was perfect and the bed was comfortable even though at first it seemed extra firm, we both slept well both nights. A couple of the dining chairs seemed a little rickety so we didn’t use them but if we had eaten meals in I would’ve been a little nervous trying them. They were cute but seemed fragile.
There’s no air conditioning but the weekend was cool and a bit damp in the morning. We bumped up the heat temporarily to dry things out and warm up which was fine.

Dorothy’s place is very sweet and comfortable and exactly as advertised. It was a good home away from and we could easily get to all the lovely and interesting things in the area. I enjoyed sitting in the back yard as well as in the lovely apartment. I recommend it.

My husband and I just enjoyed our third stay at Dorothy's wonderful home. We live out of state but often visit the area as we have family in both Mystic and Pawcatuck, so the location of the property is absolutely ideal for us. Everywhere we need to go can be reached in 15 minutes or less. The home is clean and comfortable, the kitchen is sufficiently equipped for meal preparation. Dorothy is a wonderful host and we look forward to our next stay!

The purpose of our visit was to explore the Mystic Seaport Museum. This great old house provided the perfect base camp for us. Convenient, comfortable, quiet and affordable.

I very much enjoyed my stay in this lovely, old house. It has, as the owner states, the quaint patina of a century's worth of living. The wide moldings, the heavy cracked plaster walls, the warm glow of the wooden floors, the latched kitchen cabinets all added to rather than detracted from the visit. I would have loved to have seen the large gardens in all their summer glory, but it was enough to enjoy the fruit tree (persimmons?) and honeysuckle vines while sipping morning coffee on the back porch swing.
It was an easy walk to the Velvet Mill and over the bridge to Stonington borough. A twenty minute drive in either direction brought you to Mystic or the Westerly beaches. I have been coming to this area in early fall for many years, and this tidy charming home's location was ideal for my first solo visit. I hope to return next year to enjoy the pleasures it offers.

The Blue house was in a nice area, walking distance to the village. The kitchen was well equipped although I never cooked because the restaurants in the area were so good.
The property description and pictures are very accurate and I had a lovely stay. The only issue for me was that the bed was a bit firm… but I am a very petite woman and prefer a little softer bed.

Close to Salt Water Vineyard, downtown Stonington and Mystic. Though there isn’t AC there are ceiling fans and standing fans and I slept great. Neighborhood is very quiet. It’s was a perfect place for one. Extremely clean and owner responds quickly to questions.

We had a great time at “The Blue House” as our children called it! We love staying there every year!!! Great location, close to Westerly, Mystic seaport, and Stonington Borough! We highly recommend it! Thanks Dorothy!

We felt comfortable allowing our 5 year old outside alone as this is on a quiet side street with a back yard entrance. Lots of birds, lighthouse horn in distance but we got used to it and we live in the woods. About a 20 minute drive to the ocean but we didn't mind. This VRBO definitely suited our needs.

We spent several days in Stonington and we're happy to find Dorothy's place. It was a quiet respite from the events we attended and it was perfectly located for us. It felt like home for us as we live in an older home also. A great find!
