About this cottage rental
Welcome to lake-life at Deer Bay Retreat!
As we like to say, “Life is Better Up North!”
PLEASE NOTE - This is a family friendly cottage and area. If you plan on having loud, wild parties and leaving a mess, this is not the place for you. Moving on...
We truly hope that you enjoy your stay in this updated 3 bedroom, 1 bath cottage with an expansive 200 ft shoreline on Lower Buckhorn Lake. It features pristine lake views, a brand new spacious floating dock, amazing sunrises, and some of the best fishing on the lake.
Enjoy sipping a beverage by the outdoor firepit or roasting marshmallows on the open flames.
There will be plenty to do and see on the lake with 2 canoes and a pedal boat. Bring your camera, nets, fishing gear and fishing license and sunscreen. Some assorted life jackets are available for use as well. Additionally, you are welcome to bring your own boat, nearest boat launch is at Sunrise Resorts.
You can fully disconnect from the pressures of work, city life, and social media while unwinding by the campfire or listening to some classic DVDs or playing a board game. (No internet folks! Although we have good cellular reception, so no need to panic.)
Although this may not be the biggest or fanciest cottage on the block, the property makes up for it with privacy, fishing, boating, camp-fires and amazing views, and its prime location - just 10 minutes away from the Locks and all the amenities in Buckhorn.
Visitors will enjoy a clear view out onto the lake, with your nearest neighbours far enough away that you may often feel you have the lake to yourself!
Included with your stay is the use of the following:
• BBQ (propane)
• Outdoor firepit
• Two canoes, a paddleboat and blow-up floaties including a big Red Lobster!
• Kitchen dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, etc. Note - no oven!
• Portable Air Conditioner
• Bed sheets only. Please bring your own blankets and towels.
• Tennis/basketball court excluded (unless advance arrangements have been made.)
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT THIS COTTAGE
Water - The cottage uses lake water, so refrain from drinking water from the tap. It is safe for washing dishes and brushing your teeth, but please bring and use clean city water or bottled water to wash vegetables and/or drink.
The cottage is on a holding tank. Unlike a septic tank, which gradually allows water to seep back into the earth, a holding tank will “hold” everything that goes down the drain/toilet until it is pumped out. As a result, all guests must be CONSERVATIVE WITH WATER USAGE. Failure to do so may result in an additional pumping fee being added to your stay.
Please read the cottage rules carefully.
COTTAGE RULES
- You must book for exact number of guests that will be at the property during your stay. Inaccurate numbers could lead to eviction or a minimum fine of $500.

- No smoking or vaping inside the cottage. Doing so will result in a minimum $1000 fine.
- No parties or events.
- No loud noise at any time especially after 11:00PM. You are responsible for any noise fine issued during your stay.
- Please leave the cottage and property tidy, free of garbage, dishes washed, fridge and freezer empty, and in broom-swept condition. Excessive mess will result in an additional cleaning fee of $250.
- Please return all furniture and equipment back to where you found it.
-You are financially responsible for any damage caused during your stay to the cottage, property, dock, and equipment provided.

I stayed at this lovely cottage in early August with my partner and parents, and it was everything we could have hoped for and more!
To start, the check in process was a breeze, and our hosts reached out to ensure we had everything we needed and give us recommendations for nearby outings. Communication was always prompt and they were easy to reach at every point.
When it comes to the stay itself, the cottage was clean and cozy, with everything we needed available from utensils to linens. The basket of wine and treats was such an unexpected and lovely touch!! We never had issues with bugs getting in, and the view of the lake from the living space was spectacular.
The grounds were very private, well maintained, and spacious with tons of room for our dog to run, and the fire pit had tons of space around it with four chairs ready to go and a huuuuge stack of firewood kindly provided by our hosts! The entrance to the lake was wide and shallow, with no mud or weeds, and the water was incredibly clear and warm. There was a canoe and pedal boat in perfect condition (lifejackets provided!) which made for lovely trips out on the water. Fishing was excellent both from the boats and the dock.
From start to finish, this was without a doubt the best cottage experience we've ever had - I can't think of a single complaint, and we won't hesitate to book again next summer! Thank you Amanda and Rebecca for a perfect week!
