About this cottage rental
This cozy 600 sf 1/1 (+ sofa bed) cottage is perfect for an affordable waterfront retreat. Wake up each morning to a spectacular sunrise view of Dyer Bay with an incredible number of birds singing. Watch the lobster boats leave to check traps and enjoy morning coffee on your front porch.
The cottage is located on 2.8 acres in Steuben, only 34 miles from Ellsworth, or 44 miles to the entrance of Acadia National Park. This private waterfront cottage offers much privacy to relax, and plan hiking local trails, nature preserves, and the many coastal wonders of Downeast Maine. A 10 minute drive takes you to Pigeon Hill and Dyer Bay trails (high elevation) , or Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge, a birder's paradise with a beautiful white sand beach and hiking trails though serene forest to cobble beaches.
Want to explore from the oceanside ? Take a 30-minute drive to Winter Harbor and board the “Miss Lizzie” Bar Harbor Ferry for ocean access to Bar Harbor without fighting the traffic – or take the local Winter Harbor Ferry with your bike to BH and enjoy riding through Mt Desert Island..
Want a cool road trip ? Take a trip up to Lubec - home of Quoddy Head State Park, the easternmost point in the United States, and enjoy cliff trails overlooking Grand Manan Island, an ancient bog trail, and access to its iconic lighthouse – all a few minutes from Canada, Eh ?
Don’t expect fine dining in Steuben – but locals operate casual roadside seafood and burger outlets that are amazing. A well-stocked grocery store is also nearby, so you can load up on needed supplies or ingredients and cook at the cottage or use the fire pit.
Note: Single bedroom is upstairs, a queen that sleeps 2. If you cannot climb steep stairs, there is a sofa bed on the lower level.

Unfortunately we had a bad experience as right upon arrival to the property - a big dog ran at us from the woods. It was very scary as we were not informed that there are dogs around. It turned out to be a neighbor’s dog, but our 5 year old child was terrified by the experience and refused to go out of house, so we had to leave the next day. We have informed the property owner, that we have left, but he never replied.

Our waterfront house on Dyer bay was perfect. Just my wife and me. The downstairs is one open room and the bathroom. Beautiful woodwork throughout. The “dormer” bedroom upstairs had been completely redone. Again, beautiful woodwork. The view is open to the Dyer Bay. Also there is a nice area with a fire pit to the side of the house.
This was a perfect home base for where we wanted to visit in Maine. Easy to move across different destinations within the down east portion of the state
Mike was also a great host helping us out with a scheduling problem.
Thanks Mike. A great stay!

This place was really clean. The bed was super comfy. The loudest noise was the sound of the refrigerator running. Many great hikes nearby and lots of delicious lobster and blueberries to feast on. No fast food joints!! Some really good food at area restaurants and general stores

Loved every minute of our first trip to Maine. Had long time friends who stayed with family right next door. Had great food, wonderful fellowship and lots of sightseeing. Our place was right on the water so we saw the lobster boats each morning. We loved it all!

Bedroom upstairs with rope railing
Not good for older people
Entry onto deck and front door stepping over tree roots and uneven stones to get on steps
Dock about 100 yds away thru dirt path
Drag your chair with you
Cabin very clean and comfortable but not really suited to seniors . All appliances and furniture very good condition.
I should have asked more specific questions
Lot very private and quiet
Loved our visit from “ Bear”. The chocolate lab who visited on the deck a few times!
Mike was very nice and easy to contact.
Fun to watch lobster boats on daily trips but anything else required a drive.
We stayed 8 days and drove 850 miles and never more than 70 miles one way!

We loved the property. The place was beautiful and very clean. We arrived late at night but still found the place easily. The neighbors were all very friendly including their dog brownie! Rays meats was one of our favorite local spots. Will definitely come back again.

The property was ok (it needs some TLC & upgrades) but the view of the bay & the location is really what made it worth it.

This cottage is the perfect place to relax and get away from the stress and chaos of daily life. It is quaint . The views are amazing and the ambiance is so peaceful. It is located away from the crowds so expect to drive a little bit but it’s worth it. We loved the views on our route as we drove to the local sites and Acadia NP each day. The food was delicious & fresh at the local eateries including Birch Harbor, Winter Harbor, and Bar Harbor.
The cottages dock on Dyers Bay was a lovely way to begin & end each day watching the sunrise and set .

The cabin is just as described. Located off the beaten path but close enough to explore Acadia; Bar Harbor and Winter Harbor. One of my favorite things to do was to get up early and watch the sun rise from the dock as the the lobster fishermen started their days.
Mike is a wonderful host with lots of information about the area. We have already recommended this place to some friends!
Thanks for some wonderful memories (and amazing photos)!!

We enjoyed the flavor of staying in a small community of lobster fishermen. The cottage was rustic and well suited for relaxation with a good book

This place is exactly what I was hoping for! A quiet, knotty pine beauty in the woods, with an ocean view!
